Golden Make Flyers Great Again Award vs St. B
To nobody's surprise, the St Bonnie cheerleaders failed to inspire their homeboys to a big road win at My Arena, and who could blame them?! All Hail the blue haired sweater vests (BHSV) whose spirit made out Flyers play Great Again!
But who get the much coveted Golden Award for their efforts...I mean, besides the BHSVers...
You decide!

Yes....DD had a career night...but...
Landers set the tone on defense. Scored plenty. Got boards. Had maybe 3 tie ups leading to the possession arrow as well as the blocks. Those defensive efforts translate to a 10 point swing.
That D and effort is what is needed every game by every guy on the floor if they want to win.

Landers, Landers and more Landers.
Baby D was awesome, but Landers was dominant. Royally.

Definitely Trey. He got us to point where DD could bring it home.

Congrats
to all the Flyers for a great effort. The first half "D" won the game for them. It was a real team effort.

Trey without a doubt. I've been down on him a bit with the TOs and lost play from time to time but tonight he put it all together. He's still undersized for the position he needs to play, and not every team/matchup will be favorable but he if brings the hustle and D like tonight, he'll be a huge contributor every game, regardless of size.

Landers all the way. My man crush on whoever is wearing #3 is now entering its fifth season.
But Jalen Crutcher deserves a shout out too. 36 minutes, 6 assists and only 2 turnovers, playing against what the guys on the WHIO post game show referred to as a NBA caliber backcourt. Nice game by the freshman.

I considered it a push between TL and DD but Rollo didn't give me the option to vote for both.
DD him some monster in-your-face 3's throughout. And somehow managed to get and secure every inbound pass in the last minute and nail 10 FT's.

He didn't "somehow" get every inbound play >> he executed the plays called and put the team on his shoulders at the end when we needed to seal the game. I switched from Trey to DD based on the end game. As said by others, this game could've had co-winners.

If it was a vote for who surprised the most and showed great improvement, then it was Landers or Crutcher. However, this is a vote for who played the best.
DD gets my vote. Not only did he shoot really well, including a great drive to the basket, he nailed his free throws at crunch time (remember those problems in some games the last couple of years), he rebounded better than anyone named Cunningham and he played great defense against some excellent guards, and he brought the ball up against the press with no screwups.
At 6'5" and the jump shot and high release with such a soft touch is something very few guys in the nation can do. The key for him is confidence. If he brings it, like last night, he is unstoppable.

by "somehow" I meant I couldn't believe SBU didn't triple team him to prevent it...so very sorry for implying otherwise!

This is one thing we have needed. Cunningham, our captain, leads by his play, but rarely speaks. The only other vocal leader is Mikesell, but he is out. I think they should make Landers a co-captain right now.

I would also have voted for DD, but having to choose, Landers is the man. Which is great because his brother was in the house last night. We expect DD to shine, but Trey has been up and down all season. So nice to see him play with authority, especially since JC was not the scoring machine he usually is.
Now the big question is--can he and the others keep it up and get better and better?
The Bonnies Bandwagon fans were beside themselves, especially with what they felt was the lackadaisical play of Jalen Adams. I think the Bonnies were full of themselves with their 8-game winning streak and thought all they had to do was show up, which is what I was hoping for. Plus, it was way past due for our guys to have a break-out game.
I love when they play "We Will Rock You" late in the game when we are securely ahead.

Baby D averaged 5.5 ppg last season. Could anyone have envisioned our lone senior leading us to victory over one of the two favorites to win the A-10 this season with a career high 28 pts. Much less a career 72.7% shooter from the free throw line nailing 10 in a row when the game was on the line! We have lost many games as a result of poor free throw shooting even under AM.
Trey played a great game, but I vote for Darrell Davis as the most valuable last night because, by showing the three point prowess we haven't seen since his freshman year early in the game, he took the heart out of a good St. Bonnie team which allowed us to take a 14 pt. lead into halftime. The Flyers were actually up by 18 pts. but there was one turnover which led to a Bonnie basket and one failure to get back on defense after a missed three point attempt by Crutcher which led to a dunk at the buzzer.

Hopefully we'll be having a similar discussion at the end of the year over the MOST IMPROVED PLAYER award.
At this point, I'd give it to DD but I'd love to see Trey's continued improvement push him stronger consideration.

I voted for DD because he was clutch on shooting, defense and especially FT shooting at the end. Anyone else at the line, and we could have been on the wrong end of the scoreboard.
Last night was the first time I got to watch the team play. I am still concerned about the half-court offensive sets. There seems to not be a lot of smart ball movement, nor smart movement away from the ball. We couldn't seem to get the ball to Cunningham except at top of key. DD's drives ended up in TOs more than they should have. Still not convinced we have that aspect figured out, yet.

One observation that was evident Weds night: after our hot start and something like a 17-6 lead and the half court offense clicking (relatively), Kostas entered the game and the first 2-3 possessions teammates had to tell him where he was supposed to be when either AG, Crutcher, or Crosby called out a play...took 7-8 add'l seconds to get in the set being called. He was either on the wrong block, or at the high post when he should've been in the low post, or vice versa. Too many times it seems like 4 guys are running what's being called and Kostas is just...well...running around, which could be contributing to his bench time.

Back on topic: I could have easily voted for Trey. Several times Wednesday, I saw a guy wearing #3 who did anything and everything to help his team to a win. But, at the same time, I also saw a guy wearing #1 who willed himself to bury tough shot after tough shot, and fought for every inbounds pass down the stretch, so he could take the foul, go to the stripe, and bury the freebies. Icewater. That’s called “senior leadership”, and that got my vote.
