If I drag the tent and table to the game.....is anyone tailgating? Are there places for us to setup....I emaied flyer gramps to ask him?

Scout there is a nice lot near the stadium for tailgating and the campus is beautiful. I am sure Gramps will have more info.

This is a "should win" game for the Flyers. They will need to be focused on execution and achieving team goals. They will also need to shake off the effects of a 10 hour bus ride.

Davidson's offense is 2nd in the league, averaging 414 yards per game. Davidson has a very good quarterback (transfer)...he is both a runner and a thrower. If the defense keeps him in check, it should prove difficult for Davidson to move the ball. Dayton's defense is #1 in the PFL surrendering 18 points and 290 yards per game. Dayton's -D- has performed well with the #1 tackler (Beaschler) in the PFL. Our 4-man defensive line has 5 of the top 25 d-line tackers in the PFL. Our pass defense is #1 in the PFL and our run defense is #2, barely behind Butler.

Davidson's defense is not great and their pass defense is better than their run defense. Ball control with an occasional attempt at a big play (especially when they load the box to stop the run) should be the order of the day. The QB situation is interesting. I hope #3 is fully healthy and ready to go. If not, do we get experience for the back-up and let #3 have another week to recoup?

I may have under estimated Marist who should have beaten San Diego last week. We must take care of biz at Davidson and then get pumped for a big game in Poughkeepsie next week...Hopefully with a ready-to-go quarterback.

Special teams have shown great improvement. Kicking game and KO return are #1 in PFL. Punter is very accurate and his ability to get punts down inside the 20 are not reflected in the stats. Kick/punt coverage have come a long way.

Weather forecast at Davidson for Saturday is 73 and partly cloudly...perfect football weather. Wish I could be there!

Drake had a week off to prepare while Jacksonville traveled to Butler where Jacksonville had a big win.

Good chance of rain.

Come on Bulldogs! A Drake win allows the Flyers (and Drake) control of their own destiny.

Check! Scout has all the details & photos from 2006 & 2008. There is always a turnout of UD tailgaters at that Davidson parking lot below the stadium level near the Friday practice field. Coach Kelly even had a canopy there the year after retiring.

Besides Scout, who else is going? BTW, any Davidson grads out there should be in attendance!

Don't wear blue or you'll look like a DU fan! Red is the color of choice. Great place to visit; seating all on one side but the view across the field is nice. Meet the players after the game on the track or under the Magnolias near the buses.

Allow for delays on I-77 for accidents or unknown reasons. Two traffic lights in town & you'll wait at both. Don't forget if the opportunity arises at a local restaurant, this is barbeque pork country (pulled porck with vinegar & ketchup based dressing on the meat & the coleslaw atop it). Sweet tea may be too strong for you at first so ask for half-n-half.

And yes, our much-needed rain is due Friday night.

I have a sense that they are better than in years past (especially on offense) so I would expect this game to be pretty competitive at least in the early stages. However, if they can put together a couple of 23 play drives like they did against Princeton that will limit our offensive opportunities and could make this one tight throughout. From our perspective I think we will come out and try to run it on them. This game was the coming out party for Connor two years ago and he would have broken the single game record against them last year if the game was not called early due to lightning. I would expect us to try and do more of the same and then to hit them deep if they try to load up the box.

Thanks for the link Dad. Yes, the young Davidson coach respects the UD program in a big way & sounds very much like coaches the first two times we met Campbell & even Marist.

Military Appreciation Day the last time I was there (Butler at DU) a couple years ago & three parachutists came down just before the game with the last guy looking like he would land in a parking lot & the next thing you know he makes a sharp turn, comes back & hits the 50 yard line!

The scenes at Davidson are so different than UD because it's on campus with lawns, Magnolia trees & others for shade with tailgating a few steps from the end zone fence & tables for other interests of students. The refreshment trailer is operated by a local club (Kiwanis?) & hot dogs are good until the 4th qtr when they shut down the dogs.

On the coaches show this week, they talked about the flight last time. With all the different connections, layovers, Charlotte traffic, etc. it took way too long and was too complicated. Mentioned how parents who lived further away drove and still beat them. I think it is 8 hours by bus. My son said they were planning on getting there around 4:30 am, sleep in, then do brunch.

This was a bus trip years ago & it returns. I have photos of the 3 busses - "O" bus, "D" bus & Quiet Study bus!!! That's class according to a friend who played on Davidson's team that year!

What a shame to have airports in Dayton, Columbus & Cinci so close but only a few direct flights and all on commuter lines. That's the penalty of having a "hub" system. A couple more issues like at O'Hare a week ago & maybe somebody will rethink the idea & offer a few direct city to city flights instead of city to hub city. My father was a half-million mile traveler with United out of Cleveland in the 1950's. He might only have two or three flight times a day but he flew direct to his destinations every week.

Now San Diego is another matter. The flying team will beat a driving family hands down so make your plans now if your son will not be playing in 2016!! Gotta do San Diego!

Davidson announcers said Bardo doesn't seem to have intention of running the ball which takes away one option the defense needs to defend.

Also says UD's running game is predictable, the defense just follow the in motion player and presto that is where the running back goes as well.

Bardo is just not the type qb we've had in the past. We ran up a lot of yards with a running qb on option plays.

Dayton 10 Davidson 7 at the half. Flyers not looking sharp at all. I hope RC can get their heads on straight at halftime and light a fire under these guys. D - line has put zero pressure on Davidson's excellent QB. Where is Pat Dowd? As per normal, Bardo's passes are a crap shoot. Some are OK, many are just not good. Several catches today were simply amazing efforts by the receivers. If Davidson was not keeping us in the game with penalities it would be ugly. I just get the feeling that the Flyers already put this one in the win column. It seems as though Davidson did not get the memo....

The issue is an injury. He is a dual threat QB. He is a good runner and an ok passer. The problem is that if he does not have both threats available to him, then he is mediocre at best. If we need someone to be a pocket passer, I think we have two better options on the bench. In my opinion, he either needs to run or sit.

Inertia is the only reasonable explanation. Not the kind of play we should expect from a RS senior. Maybe he pulls it together in the second half? One can always hope.
