Again I will say I do not agree completely with udscott's premise, but can we all agree that if a player from a "bottom feeder" who averaged about 17-20 ppg came here as a transfer and only averaged 3.3-6 ppg it would be very disappointing?

Maybe (depends on his role; maybe he was a great defender and rebounder), but I also think we can all agree that even if that happened it would not be a reason to NEVER pursue a player from a "bottom feeder," especially when other major/high mid-major teams are pursuing him. (Since I was not replying to udscott, this post doesn't count. )

It seems like your requirements just keep changing whenever people prove you're wrong. You've offered no good reasons why we should trust coach evaluations of high schoolers but not college students.
Bingo !! It’s hard to be wrong when you are proven wrong and then change your argument. Not sure why people argue with him other than we all love our Flyers and are dying for some updates.

No. Not every transfer has to be a stud or even a starter. If he adds to team, even for just 6-8 minutes and is playing ahead of or equal with guys we landed out of HS why is this a bad pickup?

Isn’t his 3.3 - 6 ppg as a grad transfer better than burning the scholarship?

He's not talking about grad transfers. He's talking about regular transfers from bottom feeders. So I won't speak for everyone but if we went after someone like this and they came in as a high scorer at their old school and then were a 3-6 ppg scorer here I would be disappointed.

We have a million open scholarships. Even if the kid from Kennesaw (who only has 2 years of eligibility) - if he can give us 20 minutes, play solid D and average 6ppg as a "3 and D" guy then he is a worthwhile addition. Not everyone needs to score 15ppg+. I would hope for more than 6ppg, but not sure it needs to be 15ppg to be a success.

We need short term stability while AG builds a long term vision. I would be more worried about bringing a Freshman in that is producing like that as a junior.

If you got a guy who averaged 17-20ppg from a top 25 school who came here and averaged 3.3-6ppg, would you not be disappointed? I think you accept a guy based on what you project his ability to be, not where he comes from. And if that projection is not met, then yes, you would be disappointed.

I think you were mis-interpreting my post. Or I was mis-interpreting udscott's (probably more likely).

I was reading that as "I/we don't want AG just focusing on the recruits/transfers of bottom dwellers, hence we become a bottom dweller ourselves." AG's recruiting is, and should be, on a much broader scale. If we uncover some diamonds in that "rough" or some fall in our lap for other reasons, we should never discount or discredit that opportunity because the player came from Rice, Howard or Kennesaw State.

I know he wasn't a transfer, but if we got one who put up London Warren type stats on defense, energy and assists, he'd be a royal favorite.

Yes I would be very disappointed in that but I think the likelihood of that happening is far less than someone from a bottom feeder. And there is a reason why a top 25 guy who averages 17-20 ppg doesn't go to lower level schools very often. And don't get me wrong I'm not saying that a bottom feeder player can't succeed here it is just a bit more of a risk.

Campbell’s second-leading scorer, Marcus Burk, and his teammates Damontez Oliver, told ESPN they are transferring. Burk, a sophomore guard, averaged 14.8 points and shot 40 percent from 3 while Oliver averaged 5.2 points and shot 44 percent from deep. Nick Greely also leaving.

Burk is from Indy

And it's not specifically tied to a player's ppg. Players have different roles, some that are not always transparent in a stat sheet. Skara served as a defensive stopper and logged almost 20 minutes per game, which was 25% more than the next (7th highest) player.

Clemson was also a team whose starting 5 carried a heavy load of offensive production, as every starter averaged double digits and their 6th rated scorer was at 4.0, just .7 points above skara.

Compared to dayton, there wasn't a player outside of the dayton top 5 that averaged more minutes than skara.

With all due respect, the entire context and premise of your post and its justification is either misinformed or uninformed.

Hard to believe they were able to fill 3 of the 4 with transfers immediately. Meanwhile, in UD land, we're still sitting on 5 openings. I'm sure there's a plan. There's gotta be a plan, right

That's a lot of schools on that list, a number with Final Fours and National Championships on their resume. Why would they consider a player from a bottom feeder like NJIT?

Well, it's RPI 272, which is not in the bottom 20. Plus, we made it clear that we want studs only. So don't be bringing your 15.1 points per game here if it's only going to be 12 points/game in 2019/20

Maybe, _avier is getting the pick of the litter? Maybe Dayton gets what is leftover? That sounds very defeatist doesn’t it? Hopefully, Grant will show us that it was worth the wait? Good things come to those who are patient?

As much as I dislike them it shouldn't be that surprising that a number 1 seed can sign transfers quicker than most anyone else. With that aside, I think having 5 available ships hurts our bargaining position. I think a recruit is more likely to act quickly if one of their most desired destinations has offered five players for 1 open scholarship and are told the first to accept it gets it, than they are to act quickly if they know the team has 5 open spots.

I agree their success helped, but it's also fairly amazing to me that a brand new head coach was able to jump in so quickly. Possibly X was recruiting these guys even before Mack left, assuming they had already announced their intention, but if not, that's pretty impressive for Steele to get three right away.

I think you're assuming that because a guy (probably the best overall player on the team) averaged 17-20 PPG on his old crappy team that we would automatically expect him to come to UD and average 17-20 PPG.

The guy from Clemson is a good example, he was the leading scorer on his old team then came to Clemson and had a career high 100 assists playing only 20 minutes per game. Clemson (likely) didn't recruit him to shoot 20 times per game, so, were they disappointed? I doubt it. I would bet they recruited him to shoot when needed, but, to distribute the ball.

I definitely agree with you. I had the wrong reference. Those stats show a great deal of promise.
They are more like what one might expect out of his HS accomplishments.

Iowa State HC Steve Prohm will have an in-home visit Friday with CSU transfer, Prentiss Nixon, per source. Xavier also reached out.

@jakeweingarten
CSU transfer Prentiss Nixon tells me he will have in-home with Iowa State tomorrow (confirms my 1st report), Illinois State on Saturday, and SMU on Sunday.

It is impressive but IMO it has less to do with Xavier/Steele and more to do wanting to play in the Big East.

So by your logic, there must be a bevy of top notch transfers lined up at DePaul too.... sorry, but I have not heard about them..... maybe it is because of all the 5 start recruits that are lined up for the blue demons being in the way?

Purdue just landed Dartmouth transfer Evan Boudreaux, who averaged 17.6 ppg and 9.5 rebounds/game in 54 games played.

Dartmouth had an RPI of 334 last year and 305 the year before.

Purdue just earned a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

What the heck is Matt Painter thinking? Why would he dredge so low for a player for a team/program that is this elite?

Michigan sophomore Ibi Watson is transferring. Will sit one, play two. The Pickerington, Ohio, native averaged 1.8 ppg in 45 career games.
I just wanted to say thanks to OSU Flyer for keeping us up to date on all the available players.

I have to sort through all the ****ing matches to find his posts, but he consistently delivers good up to the date information. I wouldn't know about any of these guys if not for UDpride and posters like OSU Flyer.

I imagine his living room wall looks like a scene from Beautiful Mind with dozens of players pictures and lines connecting them to their possible school and former AAU coaches and hometowns.

Agreed. OSU Flyer has been doing a great job on this. Incredible for the number of moving parts and how quickly it evolves.

One caveat, should you have the time to do so. Would it be possible to only post about players intending to transfer that are from programs in the Top 300, excluding the bottom ~50 programs? That way, we're only discussing players that are potential targets or good fits for UD?

Don't know the openings and needs of each program. But i can't see Zona taking this guy. I can see the rest, and being from Union NJ - give Temple the edge.

I can see the other 5 teams landing him. And certainly hope we are seriously in the running. There must be something AG and staff are telling him

lmao at the beautiful mind reference. This is my favorite time of the year in sports outside of March Madness. Coaching carousel, spring recruiting and transfer season is endlessly fascinating to me for some reason.

it's amazing to me how many good players there are outside the power conferences

What the heck is Matt Painter thinking? Why would he dredge so low for a player for a team/program that is this elite?
Yes, but udscott has been crystal clear on this point, the only players who match his criteria are:
-Played for a team with an RPI between 333 and 335 in the prior year
-6'7 1/2" - 6' 8 1/2"
-215 - 225 pounds
-From the state of Illinois
-Was the rookie of the year in his conference
-Consensus first team all-state in high school
-Has no silent consonants in his name

As you can see, Evan came close, but you're just proving his point for him.

Grad transfer who is leaving early. He'll have 2 years left.

Spare us, we already know you'll invent a new reason why it doesn't count.

Arizona lost their recruiting class from the Sean Miller allegations and lost a ton of people to the NBA this year. I think they're down to 6 scholarship guys so they are really active on the transfer market because they need bodies.

Virginia Tech doesn't have any open scholarships at the moment and they're targeting a couple other folks on transfer too.

Hurley I think has some connection with the Catholic high school he played at through him or his dad.

Temple has a guy from his high school but I wonder about Dunphy being in a lame duck year with a coach in waiting.

IIRC, he hinted or suggested in a post that if said player was a grad transfer, they had more experience and might be more "transfer ready" than a player who only had one or two years of development at a bottom feeder/crap program. Because yeah, another year or two of development in what's described or referenced as a crap program, playing two more years against low tier in conference opponents will certainly tip the scales.

Does anyone feel like listing all of the transfer players that UD is actually interested in?

I've tried to go through the thread, But there's just too much info for me to sift through.

Thanks in advance!

He was getting recruited in the fall but committed to Santa Clara. Former NC State star and Bronx native Julius Hodges was his lead recruiter (They both played at the same HS). He asked for and was let out of his letter of intent this spring. I'm not sure why

I got the impression then because of the scholarship situation that the staff preferred Anthony Nelson & Jared Rhoden in the fall.

Since then supposedly he had a nice senior season and is a good shooter

Finally some news that might be relevant. Usually the names in this thread appear for the purpose of naming names without any evidence of UD interest in the transfer or the transfer's interest in UD.

I would prefer the thread had mutual benefit interest names only or at worst every player we've reached out too. Gets a bit much to comb through with every Tom,Dick and Harry listed. But alot of hard work is put in by a handful of guys to fill this thread and if it weren't for them gathering it in one spot we wouldn't know any of it.

So thanks to those guys

It seems that the Xfer Train is moving at an incredible pace. Tough to stay up with a kid who changes his mind on a weekly basis.

Glad to have our excellent reporting. I doubt other programs have a thread this diligent.

Arkansas Forward Darious Hall update

"Sources have confirmed to SEC Country that Hall, a freshman, had recently stopped attending team functions. The same source indicated it is likely Hall heads to Memphis. The Tigers hired Penny Hardaway as their new coach last month. Hall previously played for Hardaway during his time on the AAU circuit in high school.

14. James Scott- 6’5” 188 lb SO SG from Kennesaw State
31.8 mpg, 17.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.7 spg, 0.2 bpg, 2.7 tpg, .416 FG%, .800 FT%, .340 3P%

James Scott is a high scoring on high usage guard out of Kennesaw State. The New Jersey native averaged a cool 17 points and carried a struggling Owl squad. One might make the assumption that Scott earned those points by running up the score against Atlantic Sun opponents. While partially true, Scott lit up his fair sure of high major defenses. Butler (26 points, 10-19 shooting), Florida State (19, 7-18), Washington (21 points 9-19), and Texas Tech (19, 7-17) all struggled to contain to Scott this past season. Scott is a master of the pick and roll and has some limited talent in the mid-range. On the other end, Scott leave a lot to be desired. His steal rate is solid but he is one of those defenders that either got the steal or got beat. Scott has some solid bloodlines. His father James Scott Sr. played for St. John’s in the early 90s and got a cup of coffee in the NBA. Speaking of St. John’s, the younger Scott has already set up a visit with them. Virginia Tech and Nevada are also involved.

15. Anthony Tarke- 6’6” 205 lb SO SF from NJIT
31.0 mpg, 15.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.8 bpg, 2.0 tpg, .404 FG%, .641 FT%, .287 3P%

NJIT is not known as a basketball powerhouse but they did feature a high major ready wing with a knack for disrupting offenses. Anthony Tarke started his Highlander career as the 5th starter for a team that barely cracked double digit wins. By his sophomore year he was the leading scorer, an aggressive rebounder, and a terrifying defender. Tarke has excellent size and length and uses it well. His points per possession allowed was in the top 10% of all Division 1 players. According to synergy, he was only responsible for giving up 117 points all of last season (for comparison he scored 449). The only time Tarke struggled on defense was when getting matched up against bigger posts. His defensive ability should allow him to be successful at a the high major level. What may hold him back is his offense. He may have led the Highlanders in scoring but he needed a lot of shots to get there. He has range on his shot but it’s not a reliable weapon. He’s at his best in transition where he can use all of his physical gifts. To no one’s surprise, the Cincinnati Bearcats are interested in a defense first wing. Texas Tech, Transfer U (Nevada), Maryland, Minnesota, and blue blooded Kansas have all been connected to Tarke as well.

What is the deal with Grand Canyon? I've seen several transfers are taking visits there:

Jon Rothstein

Illinois grad transfer Michael Finke tells me he is finishing up a visit to Nevada and then will head to Grand Canyon. Visits Penn State this weekend and Vanderbilt on 4/22.

Utah State transfer Koby McEwen will visit Marquette this weekend, per a source. Visited Grand Canyon last weekend. Averaged 15.6 PPG last season.

Do a little research on Grand Canyon. Located in Phoenix, a huge growth market. School has plowed a ton of money into facilities. Coached by Thunder Dan Majerle, who obviously can talk to the kids about the NBA. Basketball is the big dog on campus.

Dan Majerle can recruit. Finke's brother Tim is headed there as a freshman next year. He was a 3/4 star recruit who turned down Big 10 offers to head there

Grand Canyon became for profit in 2004 out of necessity - financial hard times. The investors who purchased it made A LOT of capital improvements. Now they are trying to regain their non-profit status. They are a "Christian school".

The only thing holding Grand Canyon back is being in a terrible conference. The WAC is awful. They need to be in the WCC with St Mary’s and Gonzaga. Thunder Dan could get them competitive in that league with the talent they are recruiting.

Update on Marcus Burk: Former Franklin Central star Marcus Burk announced he would transfer from Campbell. The 6-3 Burk, who averaged 14.8 points per game and shot 40.3 percent from the 3-point line (91-for-226), said Ball State, Bowling Green, Colorado State, IUPUI and Wright State have asked him to make an official visit. Others with interest are Dayton, IPFW, Loyola of Chicago, Murray State and Santa Clara.

Darious Hall- 6’6” 202 lb FR SF from Arkansas
14.8 mpg, 5.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.5 apg, 0.5 spg, 0.2 bpg, 1.1 tpg, .500 FG%, .563 FT% .406 3P%

Darious Hall wasn’t highly ranked coming out of high school, his final composite ranking just barely snuck inside the top 300. That didn’t stop the Little Rock native from making a big impact as a freshman for his hometown Razorbacks. Hall was the 2nd or 3rd player off the bench in most games for Mike Anderson. Arkansas’ three best players were a trio of point guards and Hall would sub in whenever one of them needed a breather or when the Razorbacks needed a little more size. Hall struggled a bit in the halfcourt as he was clearly the 4th or 5th scoring option any time he was on the floor. He showed some limited ability with the pick and roll, both as a handler and popping out for a jumpshot. He also shot a very good 40.6% from beyond the arc, but only had 13 makes on the season. Where Hall excelled was outside the halfcourt offense. He ran the floor very well and scored 41 points in transition. He also boasted on excellent offensive rebounding rate and would put them back for two points almost automatically. Hall’s defense showed some promise as the year went on, the Arkansas defense forced a turnover in 1 out of 5 of all the possessions were Hall was on the floor. One on one he could get exposed by quicker players. After the mandatory redshirt year, Hall will have three years of eligibility left and is just scratching the surface of his potential. He did play for Team Penny at some EYBL events during his high school days. With Penny Hardaway getting the head coaching job at Memphis, there is some speculation that Hall will head his way.

Update (4/17): West Virginia, Memphis, Dayton, DePaul, Creighton, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Iowa State, Nevada, and several low majors have reached out to Darious Hall

Marcus Burk- 6’3” 205 lb SO SG from Campbell
31.8 mpg, 14.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.2 bpg, 1.4 tpg, .490 FG%, .850 FT%, .403 3P%

It is truly hard to think of a player with a purer offense than Marcus Burk. The former Fighting Camel is the definition of efficiency with an eFG% of 61.9%. 61.9%…..not an error and yes this was as a shooting guard not a big man scoring easy layups and dunks. Most of this was due to Burk’s superb outside shooting, making 91 treys at a 40.3% clip, not quite Marquette numbers but still among the best in the country. His two point shooting wasn’t too shabby either at 64.6%. Burk uses his three-point shooting prowess to get defenders to overcommit before cutting in for a cool two points. At first glance, his defensive stats don’t seem great, but a closer look reveals that while Burk struggled guarding spot up shooters (which is at least a little bad luck because the guy still needs to make the shot) he was a very good on ball defender who was hard to take one on one and very good at disrupting pick and rolls and hand off plays. Campbell was a solid low major who made an appearance and even won a game in the CBI tournament. If there was a red flag on Burk it would be his poor performance against Penn State, Campbell’s season opener and lone game against a high major. Burk went 0/6 from the floor and fouled out. It may have been early season jitters because he did something similar in their next game against a non Division 1 opponent. After that two game slow start, Burk exploded for 33 points and started a streak where he scored 17 or more points in 9 out of 11 games. Burk could be a three and d specialist for a lot of high majors after his year off.

HaHa, you said "make a big impact" and "2nd or 3rd player off the bench" in back to back sentences. Inconceivable!!!
