How cool would a Gem City Invitational be Thxgiving weekend
With WSU, UD , UC & OSU?!
The arena would sell out for all 4 games and be rocking. 4 Different conferences playing for pride!
Lets go! Lets do this

UC and OSU are just begging for this to happen, UD Arena is one of their favorite places to visit yearly. Doubt Witchita State would be interested either. Yes, this was sarcasm when I said it last night.

Me thinks someone tried all the different craft beer offerings at the arena tonight.
Where to start? it's not worth the effort.

It's a joke because Dayton wouldn't play Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, or God Almighty, if it includes a chance of playing the Gem City Metro area 2018 NCAA Tournament representative.
It's not funny, but it is pitiful joke.
Murphy98, there are many folks who would have you believe that UD had no interest in playing Ohio State, UC, XAVIER, Notre Dame, etc., to avoid admiting that UD hasn't done enough in the past fifty years to drive the issue. The response from Marianist U. Is to do unto Wright State what other programs have done unto Marianist U. Because last year's Gem Cit NCAA tournament representative isn't capable of lining up and loosing to Virginia, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State, as only Marianist U is bonnified enough to do that.

hmmmm - take my family to Maui or the Bahamas or take them to Dayton in late November. Let me check with the wife and get back to you on that...... Ok - Not sure what the wife really wants to do - she is still laughing. Maybe when she stops laughing she will answer.

Gotcha. Hey Duke, how did you make it to the final four again? Hey Xavier, how did you get in the Big East?
Simple, we asked the wives of our season ticket holders their favorite vacation spot, and ran the athletic department accordingly.
Let's just hope they love Myrtle Beach, as that's likely a future destination.
When you can't defend it or deny it, use the deflection change the subject method. You get an A for effort, and F for failed attempt.

The whole idea of a Thanksgiving Tournament at the arena with OSU as part of it is fantasy land - Sorry thought this whole post was just about as silly as they can get. So assuming OSU and UC and X are definitely out - that leaves Wright State, Ohio, Cleveland state - wow - exciting - really going to help us in post season.
I think the current strategy of the ESPN pre-season tourns is solid and working - and well this post is fantasy land and silly.

I don't see it as an alternative to a tropical tournament. Yes, uf you played it on Thanksgiving perse. But not if it's simply a double header where you play a different one of the schools each year, etc. I've said it before, if UD gets a chance to play TOSU and UC, or Xavier, and it comes with an occasional Wright State game, UD better take it.
I'm not suggesting getting out of the exempt holiday tournaments. But remember, all espn holiday fields are not equal. See losing to Hofstra and going to losers bracket to beat mighty Ohio University.
The original question was, joking or otherwise, wouldn't it be cool to have a holiday tournament in Dayton with substantial Ohio basketball programs. The answer in general is yes. If you don't want it on Thanksgiving, then play it on Valentines Day and give your wife a box of chocolates and a Rudy Dog.

The OP wanted to play those schools on Thanksgiving. Coach reamed those who disagreed. Then coach changes the conversation to play those schools whenever. Two different concepts. Playing a doubleheader at some point in the season seems reasonable, but that was not the original concept.
