It was an affectionate jab that some folks took seriously.

I think this is also a decision based on Coach Grant seeing more upside for this season - and getting a deeper bench - is something that is clearly needed to stem these late game let downs. Grant said he would be getting Frankie more playing time quickly. Frankie sure seemed to grinning ear to ear when he was in there.

Here is a story about Policelli from his local paper. Sounds like he likes it at UD and has bought into what Coach Grant is asking of him.

Where would we be without his basket and his rebound?????? He may be the least impactful player since Pierce. Really underwhelmed . It was a waste to not redshirt him. Too soon to tell if we wasted a scholarship.

I give him credit for being self-aware and owning his short comings. But I don't get much of a warm fuzzy on him being a contributor at UD unfortunately- hope I'm wrong.

I think he will reward AG by the time he hits his Junior year. He has length and athleticism and by all accounts shoots the 3ball well in practice. He will need the muscle he is going to put on in the next 2 years.

Did you notice in the picture how long his arms are? There is a rebounder and a defender in that body somewhere.

Depending on depth next year, it's possible they could try to redshirt him again.

I think his real value is when the transfers/Crutcher/Matos/Jordan Davis class graduates. It'd be nice to have a redshirt junior to plug in then

Fortunately for the rest of UDPride, you’re the only troll that feels this way. The rest of us understand that he’s a quality individual vetted by college coaches who understand how he can impact the program.

SCROOGE! Today is Christmas

Besides that, I still think plenty of time in the seasons ahead for Frankie to grill a big old crow for you to eat.

What I would tell Frankie is watch Obi. I think we all fell in love with Obi last year when we saw his infectious enthusiasm on the bench. You could see his teammates loved it and appreciated it as well. Be that good teammate, work hard, and good things will happen.

How is it mathematically possible to waste a scholarship when we have 7 scholarship athletes? How drunk are you when you post most of the time?

If he's no good he'll go somewhere else next year. Stop bending over backwards to say something negative even when you have to say something extraordinarily dumb to make that happen.

Devin Oliver was a wasted scholarship in late December of his freshman year too. Now he parks his car on campus wherever he wants and gets more selfie requests from Flyer fans than The Legend.

Trey Landers played 52 minutes as a freshman. Another waste. He put up 15 and 14 two days ago.

If you think Frankie is a waste, you'd want him to exhaust his eligibility sooner rather than later. Redshirting would only prolong your misery. And we certainly wouldnt want that.

Happy Festivus.

We learned last year that that Grant uses playing time to send a message. He did that with Williams last year. Some players respond and some do not.

Not sure what happened the other night, but I would wager it had to do with delivering a message.

Yes Devin worked out great. One in a great while. How about Pierce, Svoboda, Crosby, Hill, Thomas, Stafford, etc, etc. ???? All “vetted”. Not only did they not turn out to be stars like DO, they were unable to contribute materially. Some kids just do make it at this level, or need a redshirt. Too soon to be sure, but FP looks a lot like Ralph Hill than a DO to me so far.

Devin Oliver had 1 productive season out of 4 for My Flyers...I know revisionists will fight me on this, but until midway thru his senior year, Devin couldn't hit the broadside of a barn when lining up a 3.

Regardless, what that 2013-14 Team accomplished should forever be etched in the annals of everything UD...right next to the 1983-84 E8 run.

When there's a Trey Landers, there's a Ralph Hill and a Sean Finn, there's a Jordan Pierce. I think we can all agree that some kids don't work out, others that invest time to develop do work out. We have examples of all. You can only have a certain amount of stars and we have seen a ton of flops.

I agree with this post. What I don't agree with is miserabledog07's proclamation that he is a bust already. It will become evident one way or the other by the end of next season. Not only will we know, but the coach and FP will know too. Way too soon to start bashing the kid.

For you young'ns, the greatest run all time was the 65,66,67 run leading up to the NC runner-up in 67. Faltered at the start of the 67-68 season but recovered for our 2nd NIT. DD started out with a bang. Although most players were TB's recruits.

I went to the Ole Miss game in Oxford during Devin's senior year. During shoot around he drilled everything is sight. This was an OOC game. I was stunned how different his form and stroke were different than his freshman shot. I give credit to Archie's system for that improvement.

During the game, Devin made some crucial 3s. I thought he shot the ball well all during that year. Then he carried the team in OT. One the most exciting and memorable UD games I have ever seen.

Few remember but Vee was given the ball to take the last shot in regulation in that game. Vee's execution and shot were very poor. Vee referenced missed game winners before the Ohio State game in his blog. Ole Miss was one of the them. When, you make one of the biggest shot in UD history, the other shots are forgotten.

I would agree that Devin had only one standout year, but he had mono and injuries earlier in his career.

really. after how many minutes of on the court action on the floor? and weren't you also carping about Trey Landers his first year? I believe so lol..

first you say: too soon to tell... that is intelligent, then you let your crazy brother at the keyboard: but FP looks a lot like Ralph Hill than a DO to me so far...

you cannot possibly make a ridiculous statement like that, after an intelligent beginning phrase... maybe you saw what you posted and had to stay in character... but lighten up, you are supposed to be a maddog, and not a yelping Shih Tzu

How about a single roster that included: Sean McNally, Mike Gorney, Tim Robbe and George Morrison? Talk about a tall bench that was a short bench at the same time...yikes!

Rollo is right. His kenpom offensive ratings went from horrific (Freshman) to terrible (Sophomore) to slightly bad (Junior) to fantastic where he was the #89 offensive player in the country (Senior). See attached kenpom details.

Oliver was the best rebounder we had from the end of sophomore season through his senior year. 5th in the A10 his junior averaging 7.8 rpg to go with 8.9 ppg. I'd consider that productive.

I want the kid to have a successful career here...no doubt.

I wouldn't lump Trey's freshman contribution in the argument, as many stated (even with limited playing time) that he was going to be a major contributor. They were right. He's a leader, athletic, etc....that was evidenced in his limited freshman minutes. Trey's freshman minutes also didn't come with a depleted roster with 8 warm bodies.

What does worry me with Frankie, isn't with him, but how this plays out. I would be frustrated if I was a player and burnt a redshirt year only to see action in 5 of 12 games for a total of 27 minutes to start the season. 16 minutes came in the blowout Mercy game. I would have assumed when a team is up 30 against Presbyterian the kid would have gotten in.

STF mentions that AG is setting the tone with playing time and what he is seeing. I see no problem with that. But when your team is up by 20 plus, one would think that resting your top 5 with a depleted roster may be just as beneficial as teaching a kid a lesson.

Hopefully he gets the minutes to contribute this season. Right now I just don't see the sense to negate the redshirt if he isn't going to see the floor and do anything that a walkon isn't capable of.

On the other hand, Landers played nothing his Frosh year and has become a decent player. Would he be better now if he had played 250 minutes his Frosh year? Who the heck can prove that. Most athletes reach their potential in a short period of time, unless their are extenuating circumstances, like injury, psychological problems or laziness. Frankie will or won't, despite his Frosh minutes, become a productive player if he has the talent and puts in the work.

As many have pointed out, red shirts can be a dangerous thing that keeps the staff from recruiting better players. I think Grant is fully aware he has a bunch of good players, but not great players, so he has recruiting to do. Grant also knows with the transfers and Matos he has a one year delay on new recruits.

Red shirt an Obi or Steve and that is golden. Red shirt an average player and you messed up.
