Wofford #24.....how?
Their only "signature" win is over a 14-13 U. of South Carolina (14-13) team.
They lost to Miss St
They lost to Okla
Their Southern conference is ranked 4-5 spots below the A-10
Must have a great Sports Info Dept!!

Their NET ranking is currently #20. They've won 15 or so games in a row. They have wins over Furman (home and away), Greensboro (home and away) and ETSU (home and away). They only have 4 losses and none of them are bad.
I don't know why you are calling South Carolina their signature win as all of the wins I mentioned above are more impressive, but that USC win looks a lot better now than it did at the time. The Cocks have been playing really well of late, are 4th in the SEC at 9-5 and have a NET ranking of #80.

16-0 on league 4-5 levels below A-10
That's nice but meriting Top 25?

I think the SoCon is higher rated than the A10 this year.

Just being ranked is no guarantee that they will get an at-large bid if they lose in their conference tournament, which seems ridiculous IMO.
I would think that being ranked should just about mean a guaranteed at-large bid.
But, last year, Saint Mary's was #20 in the March 5 ap poll, before the NCAAT began, and they did not make the NCAAT. And they were #25 in the final ap poll.
There are other examples of this besides SMC I am sure.

This why I think it would be really interesting to see what the committee does if Wofford does not win the conference tourney. Their resume wouldn't be all that impressive except for the NET ranking. It would be hard for the committee to leave them out because of the lack of quality in their wins while being ranked highly in the new fangled NET.

okay, first its not Greensboro... its UNC Greensboro... they played very weak Greensboro College this year and won 111-33... UNC Greensboro (UNCG) is not bad, but has a weak schedule themselves.. beating them twice is NOT in any way more impressive than beating SC, regardless of rankings.... they beat UNCG by 29 and 30 points...
living in NC, I have seen these teams, and South Carolina would own UNCG...
beating ETSU is more impressive than beating South Carolina??? not in this reality...perhaps in some alternate universe...
I think, their best game IMO was actually a loss, giving very tough North Carolina a game, losing by only 9...

I can't speak for the NET Rankings and the perception (although it may be true) that at its core it is designed to "help" the P5 teams and "punish" the mid-majors. The fact that Wofford is #20 (not #24), Buffalo is #16 and Lipscomb and Furman are #46 and #47, both at 22-6, and Belmont is #50 suggests that there is not a P5 bias. Maybe these 5 schools are just that good. I believe Buffalo is. Maybe they just got lucky and the "system" worked for them, whatever that "system" is. But Wofford IS 7-4 in Q1/Q2 games, including 3-4 in Q1. They don't have a loss outside of Q1. That is an impressive resume.
There are probably other scenarios that suggest otherwise, where P5 teams are benefitting from the NET compared to the previous RPI.
There's no bigger winner in all of this than NCState, whose NET is #32 and RPI #85
Clemson NET #43 and RPI #60
Furman NET #47 and RPI #67
Buffalo NET #16 and RPI #9
Dayton NET #70 and RPI #63
Belmont NET #50 and RPI #48
Wofford NET #20 and RPI #28
Lipscomb NET #46 and RPI #67
Indiana is NET #57 and an off the grid RPI #104
The only things I can think of or perceive are that you're getting credit for crushing crappy competition (NCState) and also getting credit for close losses (Indiana, lots of them).

It is Greensboro. Saying the UNC part is dumb and a waste of time. I don't say UNC Charlotte. I don't say UNC Asheville. Waste of time and sounds stupid. If it were up to me UNC would be called Chapel Hill and Alabama would be called Tuscaloosa!
I live in Columbia, so I'm assuming my knowledge of Gamecock hoops is at least on par with yours. They are wildly inconsistent, are barely .500, have head-scratching losses like Wyoming and they don't "own" anyone they play.
On paper (which is all that matters), Greensboro, Furman, and ETSU are all better than South Carolina. I don't participate in "eye tests" and guessing at who would beat who. That's for bettors and the media.

They are UNCG and always will be to lifetime basketball fans around Greensboro... I have lived in Greensboro for 40 years, and that is what we call them... there is a college in Greensboro called Greensboro, thats why they are UNCG.. but if that is what you want to call them, that is fine.. it is your choice, but not how we refer to them here..... the majority of us here also say UNC Asheville, and UNC Charlotte...
no, on paper they are not better than South Carolina.... at all... look at who they all played and how they did....South Carolina is up and down because their schedule is much much tougher, and in a whole different league than the others....
wins over Florida, Auburn, Miss and Miss St....they have also lost by 20 to be sure... they would easily win IMO, not a problem....my opinion and sticking to it....

SoCon is no joke this year. Wofford, Furman, and UNCG are all quality teams. ETSU is right there, Samford and Mercer are on par with our mid-tier teams.

Wofford's ranking is great news. Any team ranked that is not from the Big5+1 is a win for our type of school, and opens voters' minds to voting for others.

They are #24 in kenpom. Wofford is 5-4 in A (top 50 location adjusted) and B games (51-100 location adjusted games) including 3-4 in A games. NET and RPI are dumb. They are #27 in wins above bubble (WAB) which has how many wins would the average bubble team have with their schedule.
Wofford is objectively a top 25 team. They should be a 5-7 seed. Good to see a mid-major getting well-deserved recognition.

I’d rather see someone like Wofford at #24 than a 7th place team from one of the P5.
