amazing stat from last night
How is this possible?? We had 2 (two!) offensive rebounds last night. Boise is a good team but WTH? We were acting like we were scared to death of them running. We should get more than 2 just by accident.

When you shoot 72% - as we did in the second half - there are not a lot of offensive boards.

Have you not been watching this team this year? Here's how it plays out...
Player 1 puts up a shot.
All players retreat to half court.
No offensive rebound possibility.
I scream at the TV all the time.

Figgie for a guy as smart as you, I am surprised you haven't figured it out. TV sound only works one way.

Oh, stats time...
Since the 2000-01 season, this year's team has the lowest average actual (non-team) offensive rebounds per game at 5.8. Last year they were at 9.3, and in 06-07 and 12-13, they had 9.5.

It wasn't our lack of offensive rebounds that drove me crazy last night, it was the enormous amount of offensive rebounds that Boise St. got that did.

Thanks to DMO, some Kavs on the offensive rebounding point.
Not for nothing but this teams defense may eclipse many of Gregory's team. Great boxing out on defense , best help defense ever, great in your face and containment individually.
Awesome for our size and 7 guy limit.

I am going to guess this is by design to prevent fouls, injuries, and fatigue.

It's to avoid foul trouble. Offensive rebounding frequently results in silly fouls. It has obviously been working we're 26-8.

Not only that, but I'm also guessing that when the Flyers run their offense, they are known as a pass, pass, pass and more pass type of team. Players are always looking to get open, and let it fly the split second they do. Nobody really has any idea when the shot is going up so they really can't get into proper position for the rebound.

Seth Davis said that while Boise dominated the offensive boards, each team had only 3 second chance points.

I realize we don't get many offensive rebounds, but 2 might be a tournament record for futility.

For the year UD's OR% is 23.9%, which is 333 out of 351 teams.
Last night UD got 2 OR on 22 missed shots for 9.1%.
UD typically does not get many offensive rebounds, but last night was even more extreme than normal.

Why we don't get many offensive rebounds. 1. We are a very short team. 2. We open the middle so we can drive against other team's big men. 3. Since we aren't going to get a lot of offensive rebounds, we might just as well get back and stop the fast break.
We are 26-8 so I suggest we accept success.

True. But here is an equally amazing stat. We got 2 offensive boards and scored 3 second chance points. BSU got 12 offensive boards and scored only SIX second chance points.
Our defense never gave up or got discouraged. We went back to work and played tough defense after an offensive rebound.

I read we had 3 offensive rebounds, but the amazing Stat is Dayton scored 6 second chance points to Boise's 3.

With this squad, I think Archie likes his chances with the first shot they get.
