Probably don't need to fill it for this year - we were not relying on Miller for major minutes.
Plus, outside shot at him taking up a scholarship for 2018-19. So, you can probably get better talent from the 2018 class at this point.

It's not so much a question of need. It's just a matter of reality. Had Sam been kicked off the team a couple months ago, the situation would be different, but as it stands now, there's not a whole lot of opportunity to be able to make an addition to the team which helps you in the short term and does not adversely affect you long term.
Of course, if you can find a semi-useful grad transfer, of course you take him as it does not impact your 2018-19 plans whatsoever. But good luck finding that guy. If he's out there at this date, there's probably a reason - character, legal, or medical (i.e. the oft-concussed Ryan Bass).
If you take anyone else, then you obviously have to weigh it against who you think you can get in 2018.

Dallasflyer: i concur with your above comments. I am very favorably disposed to transfer students. I started to look at the transfer wire list on the internet and i gave up. Everytime i saw someone that seemed to have some skills; deeper research (searching on their name, home town, last college or just the word "basketball"; would eventually find the details. There are a lot of kids out there with far worse offenses and history of offenses than Sam Miller. Kids get themselves into all kinds of trouble. It is a shame. Across generations, accross decades, accross cultures, boys get into trouble. It seems like human brain are not developed until later in life (21 years or so). We look at these man-children with their giant bodies and we forget. These kids make stupid choices. The transfer list is full of kids that have made silly decisions. At this late juncture, let's not get our hopes up that a sixth man can be found let alone a starter.

No reason to think he would want to come all the way east to Dayton and I know that Dayton isn't actively pursuing transfers, but if I were Anthony Grant, I'd at least give this dude a call and see if he picks up.

This is true, but I'd be more than happy to award Sam's scholarship to a dude who averaged 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.3 assists in the mountain west. Those numbers are crazy good. I'd take 2 years from him over 4 years of a 4-star HS commit. But he's not coming here.

Now this is a fun one...
@JonRothstein North Texas' Keith Frazier will be a graduate transfer, per a source. Immediately eligible. Former SMU guard.
He's a good player I've watched a lot over the years. But he's also a kid who shouldn't have even graduated high school, let alone college. Now, apparently he's going to grad school so he can play another year of college ball. And really I don't think he's a bad kid at all, but it goes to show that the whole system is really inherently flawed.
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/06/s...orruption.html
And you know what, it wouldn't bother me a bit if Dayton took this kid. Won't happen, and that may be a bit controversial, but all the academic red flags in the world kind of get erased once you are a grad transfer.

Larry Brown may be followed by trouble everywhere he goes, but one thing that was clear is that he is a great judge of talent. Keith Frazier is a playa. Would make Dayton U better the minute he got here with his talent and maturity.

Dallasflyer: I am in favor of recruiting transfers but as i mentioned above, it looks like the only ones left on the transfer wire have much worse histories than anything that Sam Miller did. Keith Frazier is another example of a kid that has eons of bad history.
According to the Dallas Morning News, that is the local paper close to SMU and the University of North Texas, Keith Frazier "is trying to gain a final year of eligibility through a medical hardship waiver." "Keith Frazier played four games for North Texas before knee problems ended his season. He is reportedly seeking a medical red shirt." "Frazier was expected to make a significant impact for North Texas after becoming eligible, but ended up playing just four games because of issues with his knees." "North Texas compliance department has been in contact with Baylor, which is exploring the possibility of adding the 6'5" guard to its roster for the 2017-18 season."
On this blog, i don't have to explain the negative history of SMU football sanctions and basketball story with Larry Brown nor the negative reputation of Baylor football under Briles and scarred history of Baylor basketball under Bliss. Baylor's reputation could not be more slandered than it already is, so why not bring on a charred history person like Keith Frazier into their roster? It can't hurt them anymore?

Briles is bad, but Dave Bliss is truly a terrible human being. Before Bliss got to Baylor, he was at SMU.

Still 2017, so I'll put this here. Jordan Tucker, a four star recruit and Top 50 , is leaving Duke after one semester. A 6'7" forward, he would be an awesome get for AG. We have an open ship, and he would get lots of playing time. Of course he would have to sit a year, so he could play next January. Tucker appears to be a good kid, who just wants playing time.

Hasn’t Bragg burned his eligibility yet? He started off at Kansas.

We want no part of the Bragg mess. Two schools and a drug suspension... nuff said. He sounds like a good fit for Cuyahoga Community College.

I think Bragg is headed to the G League. But as long as we are throwing out early transfer names, I submit the Hatian-born Schnider Herard. He was a top 50 recruit (no. 7 overall center) at Miss State and supposedly an excellent student coming out of high school in the Dallas area (Plano). Looked good freshman year, but struggled this season, and was benched. I think the Haitian Hammer as he has been nicknamed would absolutely be worth a call, presumably from Ricardo Greer, given his background coming out of the Dominican.
