X Match
Looks like X is running a 2-setter offense. It will be good for us to play against it because you see it in the NCAAs on occasion. Not sure if we have played against another team this year that goes with 2 setter????

I don't have video, so I can't confirm this, but the stats show that Jill Loiars has 20 attempts in 2 sets, and Alaina Turner's name hasn't shown up since about 5-5 in the first set.

Stats show that Giardina is now in as setter for Emmenecker.

Maybe we are playing 6-2 too? Giardina back in. Horsmon making sure we have 3 attackers in the front row for all rotations, I suppose.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
16-14 Flyers in the fifth
This has to be one of the most satisfying non-tournament wins in a long time.
Turner goes down early with an injury in set 1. We get blitzed in the first 2 sets - hitting something like .067. Horsmon retools at the break - going to a 6-2 if I understand correctly. We hit over .400 in set 3. Fight off 2 match points in set 4. Gut it out in an up and down set 5.
The ladies showed real guts. All the coaches and ladies have to feel mighty proud tonight- deservedly so.

Wow.
Nice job ladies! Hard fought win. Changing of game plan after being down 0-2. And they pull it out!

Amber took this team on her back and willed it to win. She set an all-time high for kills (this season - maybe career??? Figgie will know.) And then she scored our 14th point and 16th point with two blocks in the 5th set for us to win 16-14.
I think I said last week it was good to see the team bounce back and raise their game after dropping the first set and we would need that down the road. I just didn't think down the road was the next match at the dreaded Cintas Center -- a place that has tripped up many a Flyer team over the years.
Gotta love this win.
Alaina's injury was an ankle if announcers were correct.
As a side note -- my video was terrible. Would not stay up. Reminded me of the "old days" -- like 2007-2010. Back in the beginning of steaming video for UD. But then again it was Xavier and I should have expected a sub-par product.

Amber was huge tonite. Announcers couldn't say enough about her. 18 kills, hit .615, with 5 blocks. Great win by the Flyers without their POY, Alaina, who left early in the first set with a leg injury. She went out for the coin toss for the 5th (just the toss, not to play) so hopefully not too bad.
And yes, BeckysTXA, that was Amber's career high. Previous high was 15 kills. Jenna was also a stalwart. Great team win!

Total gut check. With our stud hitter unable to go, her teammates had her back the whole way. Amber went gonzo. Her hitting % has been terrific all season but tonight when we needed it most, she sucked it up as did everyone else.
We lose this match at the beginning of the year -- in fact we did. Progress. Dont want to ever get down 2-0 on the road, but sometimes you gotta win ugly and just grind that mo' fo' out.

Turner twisted her ankle, the X game while important is not that important to risk further injury to Turner. She did walk out on her own for the toss, so looks promising.
This is a repeat of 4 or 5 years ago when X took a commanding lead in the A=10 only to lose the next 3 sets.
Great effort by everyone stepping up when our POY went down.
BTW Christi looks like she is about to deliver.....congrats Christie for a healthy child.
Didn't realize she was the head coach of X.

had problems with the video as well, kept buffering and finally freezing. Rebooted several times, finally got it back for 5th and decisive set....and match point.
BTW the announcers also noted that Turner's ankles were already taped prior to twisting it.

Yes, Amber got a career high with 18 kills.
Also, Sloan career high in 29 attempts, while Amber has a career high with 26 attempts.
Loiars first ace of her career.
Schutter had 3 digs for a career high, and Margo Wolf had career high 15 digs.
2 players had career highs in errors, but noone wants to hear about the negatives.....
(Oh, and if anyone is interested, if Amber keeps blocking at her current pace, she will probably end up top 5 all time in block assists.)

And for the obscure:
Of all players with at least 26 attempts in a game since the 2007 season, Amber Erhahon's .615 hitting percentage was #2, behind Bethany Akerhielm's 19-2-27 = .630 performance against Temple in 2008.
(If you make minimum attempts 25, Erhahon moves to #3 with a Fletemier .680 in 2007.)
(If you make minimum attempts 20, Erhahon moves to a tie at #13. But, her .667 in 21 attempts against VCU is tied for #6 then. Fletemier has 7 in the top 14 in this group.)

Know that this one was special to at least one UD senior who was a verbal to "X" before coming on board @ the U! :)
Man, I still love beating X at anything & everything! Glad we've had so much success at it over the years!
THANKS Ladies!
Down 2-0! Finish it off 16-14 in set five!
Chris is exactly right-------gut check!
