Real close between Kavs and Sibert for me. I would probably make them co-testes award winners or whatever you are calling this thing.

In addition to his really good play last night, I thought #35 did just enough stupid things for Sibert to earn my vote. Every time we commented "Kav is looking solid tonight", he'd follow with a dumb turnover. Luckily, Sibert would bail him out with another 3-ball.

And his play is what is leading this team. He knows that his time is coming down to the wire, and he wants to go out playing at his best...putting the team on his back.
Sure...players are going to have bad games from time to time. But he has been more consistent than anyone. Even when he isn't playing well, he is still playing his butt off.

DMO has stepped it up.
Vee's perimeter shooting reminds me of Marcus Johnson's senior year. I have little hope it will go in. He took a three last night that was three feet long and wide left. Hopefully Vee will finish like Marcus did.

I gave my vote to Sibert. "We" asked him to step up his game when UD was in a lull and he has certainly done that beginning 1 Feb (start of the streak). He is shooting with confidence and shooting within the flow of the offense. If he doesn't hit his shots last night, UD doesn't win.

Interesting coaches didn't get one vote. Down 17-7 Archie calls time out to settle the players down. Dayton went on a run to take the lead and never looked back....maybe just over the shoulder.
Also since #35 got most of the votes only one of them posted.

Kav was both hungry and horny last night, and it showed, as he got "busy" with his opponent. Here is your post Avid Flyer!!!!!!!!! The Biggg Fellllaaaaa!!!...as both Watlton and Rafterty would say. Send-It-In...says Raf; and can someone "Pleasssssseeee" get body on the "Big Man".
NCAA Selection Committee take notice of the Dayton Flyers losing streak and winning streak, and note that during losing streak, Matt Kavanaugh was out (and Gav too), but that during winning streak Matt Kavanaugh's physical dominance and presence in the paint account for much of the difference...Send-It-In Big Fella"

Actually my post mentioned the coaches and I too didn't vote for them but thought they called the time out and should get some credit for their turn around.
Then I also voted for #35 but didn't post it either .
Actually yesterday I was in the midst of posting that #35 would have breakout game and lead the team to victory....when all of a sudden the alarm went off in the hotel and we lost power. A smoker in one of the non smoking rooms fell asleep setting off the alarm with smoke damage as he tried to put out his sheet. Was just a gut feeling; now I feel bad that I didn't buy a lotto ticket

Oliver had some really bad plays on both ends of the floor. I recall only once wanting to pull my hair out on something Kavs did.

You're going to have some bad plays when you bust your butt for 38 minutes. Oliver "creates" more plays than anybody. Some bad and a lot good. His stat line was something to be proud of:
6-10 from the field, 2-2 from the foul line, 12 boards, 5 assists, and just 1 turnover. He also had a steal and a block.
Kavs spent more time on the bench then he did in the game. Hard to make bad plays when you're on the bench.

OK, it took me 4 hours of driving around between appointments this morning to make up my mind who to vote for. Kavs, DMO, and Sibert all deserve the award in my opinion, I have never had such a tough time deciding who to vote for.
Which is why I voted for the coaches. The time out when we were down 17- 7, then went on a 20-4 run to end the half. This was a total team effort, and for the team to play like they did as a team, I give credit to Archie and staff.

Golden Hangy Down Things Award....goes to Kavs. I don't think we win last night without him. I know Sibert was a sniper from deep and that DMO has changed the mojo of the team, but Kavs was omnipresent. He may have made mistakes during the game, but Sibert doesn't get some of his looks if we don't have an in the paint presence. DMO doesn't get some of his opportunities if D leaves Kavs to double up on him. Kavs was huge last night.

Oliver, solid stat line and guarded a guy bigger than him. Took Zack out of the game and this seemed really to frustrate LaSalle.

I was a bit surprised that we didn't see more of Zack, there were a few times when he was given space around the free throw line and didn't do anything with it. No jumper, no drive, just find someone to pass to.
It seemed like the La Salle offense was find a way to get it to #3 or #21 and see what they can get. Unfortunately, their shots weren't falling that well for spells.
Just like the Flyers. We missed 6 in a row to go down 17-7, then we stormed back to finish the first half in nice fashion. We were shooting 18% to their 38% and we were only down 10. The percentages had to come back to us at some point, but if they were shooting just slightly better, we could have been down 15-20 points.

Kavs. I don't think people realize how good a passer he is. One play in particular, he was doubled under the basket, and instead of forcing a shot he made a bullet pass to an open Sibert for an uncontested three. He is also developing a nice little hook shot.

But that was after he had position heading to the basket, and the entry pass was so late he was standing under the backboard, and he couldn't go up to the rim, so he had to pass it out. It was either that or dribble off his foot.

Kavs picked up a couple of those fouls when he was a little over zealous (or slower footed) when hedging the ball screens. having said that, I saw DO get absolutely abused twice in the 2nd half like he was wearing concrete shoes. Couldn't say that those were mismatches that were created off of a switch, but both time I remember thinking "WTF??". Then, during that stretch in the 2nd half when we seemed to take like 6 or 7 consecutive really bad shots, I recall DO taking 2 or 3 of them.
Having said that, DO did have two of the nicest dimes last night for an and-1 and a dunk.
