I hope Darrell Davis' Game...
is a lot like Matthews' game. Wow, he is impressive in all phases of the game. How did he ever get away from Michigan and Michigan State? He attended Romulus High School. If I am not mistaken, that is the high school that produced Leighton Moulton, if any Priders remember him.

Sorry, Leighton Moulton, a Flyer from 73-76 attended River Rouge High School. His older brother, Malcom, was a heck of a player as well.

Darrell Davis has a somewhat similar game to Matthews. He is an excellent ballhandler; he made 3 three pointers in the 1st quarter the other night to push Douglass to a 16-1 lead. He is a willing defender and has long arms.
Double D needs to work on a few things, namely stength, endurance and focus. He is 6'4" and 170. When he was killing clock by dribbling you could see he was visibly tired when he eventually passed the ball. He took an elbow to the chops and basically took a possession off wiping his lip and looking for blood.
He is a fairly complete player and will benfit greatly from time in the weight room.

Fairly complete yet lacks strength, endurance and focus...sounds like he's fairly incomplete but loaded with potential. He'll fit in perfectly!

I made a comment during the game last night that Matthews will torment me for three more years. He is a solid player.
I like the way he goes north/south. He has a way of getting past his defender and then scoring against the secondary defenders around the basket. Of course, part of that could be UD's secondary defenders....

Didn't we recruit Mathews? He sure would be nice to have in red and blue. If so anyone know who lost interest first? Can't imagine anyone would want to play for RI over Dayton.

UD was recruiting Matthews. I believe Kyle Davis committed to UD (or perhaps it was Scoochie) then Matthews committed to Rhode Island. Its been a while, so somebody can refresh my memory. Matthews may have been leaning to Rhode Island all along, or perhaps Archie offered one spot to both, first to commit gets it, don't really know.

We recruited both EC and his backcourt teammate Wesley Clark, who signed with Mizzou. Romulus coach Nate Oats always has a ew D-1 guys on his squad. Ray Lee was another RHS guy UD went after but he had off-court issues.
As mentioned elsewhere, EC wanted to play PG and Dan Hurley recruited him as such,

It seems that the difference between high potential recruits that go to big time programs vs those that get snatched up by high majors and are offered instant playing time, is just what you mentioned. Kid isn't physically ready for the big time, but he wants to have a good chance for Freshman minutes.
Maybe not in every case, but certainly quite often. Some of the recruits UC, Georgetown, and yes-- SMU, look like they are 28 years old. Davis looks like Oliver and CJ coming out of HS. I think double D is more the norm.

Seems like the NORM here that most all recruits need to work on outside of many top 50 players. A little concerned here with the endurance comment unless that term was referred to more due to players getting physical with him which I believe it was..
Excellent ball handler, pretty good shooter, long arms, and willing defender (really important) bring a smile to me..
