Good info. UD the only non-P6 in the top 25.

Georgetown and Marquette, both midmajors, are also on the list.

I have a hard time buying that Georgetown is doing well when they pay big rent for Capital One arena and they draw sparse crowds.
I guess the Nike money and Fox contract is that big.
I kinda doubt Marquette is ahead of Kansas. They pay rent for the Bradley Center and lose all the revenue all from parking, concessions, etc.

An article talking about Georgetown wanting to renovate their 2,000 seat on campus gym for games
When the Hoyas are drawing sellout crowds downtown, an on-campus gym draws only scant attention. Drawing 4,800 for DePaul and paying some of the highest arena rents in college sports at Capital One Arena is another issue.

LOL I love this, because if you follow the logic used by the media to describe mid majors, the entire Big East conference is one (i.e. not in a "power 5" conference).

And a major omission..
Villanova is one of the nation's most prominent programs...year-in-and-year-out. Yet VU falls behind two other BE schools and UD. Odd?
VU BB has made the University...a UD peer institution...a household name coast to coast. A remarkable achievement. VU lucked out with a terrific young coach in a destination job. Wow! What impact.
Having been raised a few miles from VU I follow the school closely....and I am very envious.

Couple of things that stuck out to me:
- Less than $1 million separates no. 20 and no. 25
- Only $4 million separates no. 10 and no. 25
- Only 2 Big East team on the list
- Probably an inaccurate study at best
- Minnesota cheerleaders were pretty hot

Remember every Big East team besides Xavier and Butler rent their arena. That's a big expense to pay and they lose out on the concessions, parking, in arena advertising, corporate sponsorships, etc.

Lot of "funny money" in all the data, contributions and what-not. Private schools, UD, MU and GT don't have to report this data, still it's good to see our program in the rankings.

I found the expense figures the most interesting. Most are in the 1.6 to 2.2 million range. UD was right in the middle of that at 1.8. The programs spending 3-4 million raised my interest. I wondered if it’s because they are paying off former coaching contracts? Not sure why the expenses are so high and I didn’t research it. Anyone have insights?

I would suggest that the actual expenses are way understated, with a lot or most of the higher paid coaches salries coming from donations and are not reflected in the stated expenses. AM was reported to be in the 2-2.5M or so range yet our overall reported expenses are 1.8m.

Some is going to be coaching salaries. At place like say Kansas the head coach, assistants, support staff (Director of basketball operations, etc) are all paid more. They likely spend more on travel like private aviation for Self and his assistants to go to AAU tourneys, etc in recruiting. They'll shell out more money for buy games to get top lower RPI teams in
The Big East schools that play in an NBA arena like Marquette pay rent for the privilege.

UD MBB coach Ryan J Miller received $1.661M according to 2015 990 tax return (latest tax return available)
THE MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH RECEIVED A BONUS PAYMENT, AS SPECIFIED IN HIS CONTRACT, BASED UPON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE RATE OF THE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM AND BASED UPON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM DURING THE POST-SEASON.
THE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM MAY TRAVEL VIA CHARTERED FLIGHTS TO GAMES TO MINIMIZE THE TIME SPENT AWAY FROM CAMPUS FOR THE PLAYERS. THESE BENEFITS ARE NOT INCLDUED IN TAXABLE COMPENSATION.

This article looks at revenue. At the end of last season, the Wall Street Journal published an article using valuation as the metric to rank the most valuable college basketball programs. It assessed open market value through revenue and expenses with risk and growth considerations. In essence, the type of assessment used in an M&A transaction.
Kentucky was the most valuable followed by Louisville and Indiana. UD was 21st but with the same valuation as no. 20 Alabama. VCU was 40th.
Not sure if this is behind the WSJ pay wall but here is the link:

Some of his compensation came from NCAA winnings. Some was also paid in the future. I assume he lost that future compensation when he left.
Not all of Archie’s salary came directly from UD. Some is from endorsements, etc. I might be wrong, but I also think some donors helped with his salary or that of coaches.
Btw. How did you get hold of his tax return?

The IRS Form 990 is the University of Dayton 501(c)3 tax return for 2015 ... the latest one I could find ... it details all payments made from UD to Archie Miller during that fiscal/calendar year. I have no access to AM's personal federal or state tax return.
AM was on the high compensated schedule G ... I'm amazed of the salaries now paid to UD management ... most around $200K.
UD has significantly changed in salaries since I graduated.

If that is what UD paid Archie, he earned a lot more than that. I believe his UD compensation during his first year was well below $1 million.

@BillKoch25
The key takeaways?
-- Despite reaching a first NCAA Tournament in 18 years and winning their second #A10MBB tournament title, there were no program enhancements offered.
-- # URI ranked fifth in the conference in basketball spending behind Saint Louis, VCU, Dayton and Richmond.
I wonder what VCU and St Louis are spending on
