Dayton has not had many late comebacks, but this is true late comeback.
GW lead 22-21 in the 1st and UD was able to win. Great work from the Flyers.
Dayton had Kills from Campbell, Marten, and Kray, and blocks from Hannan/Marten and Hannan/Selsky down the stretch of the first set. Contributions from a lot of players to get this win. Not as a convincing win as last night, but GW is a good team and I love seeing this UD team prevail when their opponent is having success. Pretty typical to see UD struggle in the first and cruise in the 3rd. But a win is a win, and UD can move on to the all important match at Cintas unblemished in A-10 play.

Key to the match was sneaking a W from set one. Light years difference between up 1-0 and down 1-0. We did not play well for the first set and a half, yet managed to get the lead. That was huge. Teams like GW feast on momentum and keeping it close. The sooner you can dash their hopes, the better.
By set three, GW was out of gas and mailing it in. They saw the writing on the wall and were no longer feeding that fierce left side hitter. They started making more mistakes and having more service errors. They knew it was all but over so why kill yourself trying any longer.
We got better as the match went. Not sure it was a complete solid performance. But by the third set our block was very good and Vargas was digging very well.
First half of the match GW was digging us out big time. We couldnt hit the hardwood with our great kill opportunities. Various mistakes and we were not very good in serve receive.
Wrap all that up and we still won 3-0 against one of the better A10 teams. I like that fact that we won 3-0 without coming close to playing our best. And we played our best at the end.

Having played tennis for 30 years and watched my kids play volleyball, one thing I find similar is that you often play at your opponent's level, especially if they are weaker. They can bring down your level of play. Flyers can play at a high level (witness their #26 ranking) but it's tough to play like that in many A-10 matches.
