Bigs posted ugly stats but we somehow survived

One thing this team has been able to do is survive -- usually -- a bad performance or two. There always seems to be someone to pick up the slack.

We were fortunate enough tonight to survive almost zero offense from our bigs. Kavanaugh, Robinson and Scott combined for just five points, and three of those were at the line. Throw Pierre in the mix, and it's six points. That's beyond anemic.

That won't win many games, but it won this one. That's all that matters.

I don't think it will happen two games in a row. I was glad to see Scott get in since his girlfriend and the baby were there.

As we are in the minority that stays beyond the end of the game, I saw Scott holding his little boy (who is a cutie) and sitting with his girlfriend and her mom. We talked for a few minutes. His girl friend and her mom are very pretty. I couldn't tell Scott he had a good game (because he didn't), but admired his devotion and love for his son.

I still think we will see good things out of Scott in his final two seasons. Give him 6 months or so during the off season to get his life in order, and figure out how to balance being a dad, student and basketball player. Still feeling good about the future for Scott and our program, even though we have another half dozen or so games to be played this season!

The bigs don't always have to score. They need to defend, rebound and position as well. If they do that, this team has lots of other scoring options.

The last several games, the bigs have held their own. Their improved play is one of the three keys to the amazing turnaround.

There is no aspect of this team that works by itself - bigs, pgs, shooters. Need all parts working. That is why I hate to see us get a lead too early. Last night we came out in the 2nd half playing too much 1 v 1 and not moving the ball around. Our guys just can't create by themselves as good as they can when running regular O.

They had a let down on both ends of the floor in the second half. DMO gave us some real easy baskets.

After the hard games and the lead they built up, it is understandable.

They played great defense during this winning stretch. The first half was a very good display of defense. Most of Richmond's shots were forced and very few offensive rebounds were given up.
