Player series, Part 12: Lynn Greer
Lynn Greer III, 6-2, 185 pounds, age 19.4 (DOB 4-15-02)
4 years at Philadelphia’s Roman Catholic, then post-grad year at IMG … #245 HS recruit (per 247)
Will wear #3 for Dayton … Entering Year 1 of CBB / Year 1 at UD
Can’t find stats at IMG. 18.2 PPG as senior at Roman Catholic … three-time first-team Philly All-Catholic
Greer’s video from Roman Catholic shows a player with a fairly versatile offensive game — hitting 3s, driving to the hoop, and finishing near the rim with both hands. He really likes the spin move, and he uses his body well in traffic to create space and get his shot off.
Kinda like Malachi Smith, he doesn’t appear to be a super high-flyer — more often it’s layups instead of dunks on the fast break.
I watched close to 20 minutes of Greer highlights, and I’m not sure I saw a single play of him guarding anyone. Cmon highlight folks, that’s half the game. Wish I could give you more insight on his D.
His dad, Lynn Greer II scored 2,099 points for Temple between 1997-2002. Greer’s father and grandfather both played in the NBA or were drafted by NBA teams.
Here’s what Coach Grant said about Greer after he signed: "Lynn is a dynamic playmaker who possesses size, speed, and skill. He plays with a competitive spirit that brings out the best in himself and his teammates. He has grown up around the game and has a basketball bloodline that is respected and admired among basketball enthusiast throughout the country."
I can hardly find anything about his time at IMG (no stats, no video, pfffft). If anyone has any insight to what his IMG experience was like, I'd love to hear it.

Not sure that I can backup any of my beliefs, but I just think Greer is going to be a breakout star. Maybe not this year, but soon.

Greer is not a typical freshman. He played a year after high school against top flight talent. After he plays four years at Dayton and the NBA scouts are looking at him, he will be almost 24 years of age. The NBA scout will say that he is too old and has no upside potential. At least, that’s what we heard from the NBA scouts on Toppin.

Since their games are similar I will be curious to see which player has the best freshman season, Malachi Smith or Lynn Greer III. My hope is that not only with all the guards but with the forwards as well everyone plays so well and shoots the ball so well that it will be a difficult decision for Anthony Grant to divvy out playing time. That would be a nice situation to have because our opponents wouldn't know who to double team or emphasize guarding!

if Greer can play like his father, or better.... Watch out!
I remembering his dad destroying UD when he played for Temple.

Lynn Greer remains one of, if not my favorite non UD A-10 player. UD will be blessed if his son has even half the career that he did.

Sounds like he is going to be a fun player to watch as he plays more and gets more experience.
Glad to have him but why didn't he go to Temple? Not asked? Asked and turned Temple down?

Bit of a wildcard IMO, with a unique opportunity amongst the freshman not named Holmes given his ball handling abilities.

Outside of Holmes, I expect Greer to be the biggest star of this large incoming class.
