Does the NIT not have a .500 rule? Indiana is 12-15.

How can an absolutely pathetic 12-15 team even make the NIT?

Pretty laughable comparison. IU's raw NET ranking is almost 20 spots higher, but this stat tells the real story:
IU 2-12 vs Q1
UD 3-2 vs Q1
With nine less opportunities we have one more win. Horrendous.

IU has played in the NIT 3 times this century, the latest in 2018-19.

It only matters if you play a Q1 game. Winning doesn't matter.

Using that criteria, the Washington Generals are the 2nd greatest basketball team in history.

Yeah, if that was the whole story. But there's another story. The one where UD was 0-3 vs three teams with a combined record of 16-43.

We need a few teams to decline their invitation. For example, Zavier has said they will not play in the NIT.

Do they only announce teams that have accepted their selection? I think there's a strong likelihood of a few teams declining the invite. Duke. Xavier. What about Louisville?

Interesting that Dayton is 3-0 against two of the four No. 1 seeds in the NIT, and then 1-0 against one of the No. 2 seeds. They’re 5-1 against the field. Wins are SLU (twice), Davidson, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The loss was SMU.

It's almost the A10 invitational. Didn't Memphis have the number 1 recruiting class just a couple years ago? Doesn't always translate to wins.

"Due to the unique circumstances of the 2020-21 season, institutions were asked to confirm, in advance, their intentions to play in the NIT if selected. As a result, some teams that may have otherwise been selected to the NIT chose not to participate in 2021."
https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball...ings-announced
It looks like the Big East and the ACC declined to participate in the NIT, as Syracuse, Duke, NC State, St John's. Seton Hall, & Xavier were all projected to make the 16 team field.
Bad for them, but great for the A-10!

Memphis is young. They play guys less minutes and shoot worse than us across the board. This will be hard to believe but turn the ball over more that we do.

Not sure those that opted out did so by conference edict. Maybe the Big East, but NC State is in the NIT field.

Well, first game is kind of a way of revenge for Jalen. If we should win, then it's either a revenge game for us against SMU or a revenge game for Boise St. fans against us for the 2015 first four game.

I was told that the Seton Hall players voted not to go to the NIT. The reason? They did not want to be "cooped up" in a hotel for whatever time they would be there.

I’ll take it. A chance for the young guys to get some post-season experience at the major-college level. A chance for the seniors to get some redemption. Just go out and play hard & smart for 4 games in a row, and that trophy can come to Dayton.

I'm surprised RABID K9 hasn't jumped on this yet, so I'll steal a potential punchline.......
But with Grant's NIT success/experience, I'd think the Flyers are poised for a strong run in the NIT.

Folks, the phone number for UNT coliseum is 940.565.2527. The tickets due to social distancing can only be purchase in either two or four seat combinations. The tickets are only $20.00 each. I have my tickets. See you there. UNT stands for University of North Texas. The location is Denton Texas. Denton is just a little north of Dallas.

The tickets say that gates will open 60 minutes before the event. I guess, so that you can watch the Flyers warm-up.

Got my tickets. Had to dial in numerous times. Like getting a tee time at NCR South.
Parking should be easy with seating at 25% of capacity. Masks required. Game time 11am.
Go Flyers.

Just curious, why are masks required in Texas? Thankfully, Texas rescinded all COVID-19 restrictions, so I’m not understanding this requirement.

Any private establishment can choose to not participate in the order. Many businesses are opting to still require masks. Most groceries, banks, et al. are still masked.
There is no getting around the fact that Dallas County is one of the counties among the worst affect by Covid19 still.

Venues reserve the right to require masks, as is the case everywhere I've been in Houston as of today.
Govy has lifted mandated restrictions.
For those equating the immediate return to normalcy in personal and social behavior as suicidal (most likely many reading this), check out the argument for getting on with life (w/o masks, etc.) from Godfrey Bloom, UK.

UNT is in Denton county, which doesn't have it nearly as bad as Dallas county, but yes, many individual establishments still require masks, even if the state mandate has been lifted. Mask or no, I'll be there.

I wonder how they pulled that off, getting the Covid to stop at the county line?
That's like saying the LA fog stops just short of Peralta Hills.

It’s simple, use your common sense, think for yourself, and don’t listen to political activist doctors like Fauci. The guy has been wrong way more than he’s been right. I got COVID while wearing a mask working with a mask-wearing symptomatic employee. Guess what? The masks didn’t protect me from anything and I got sick. If masks are so effective, why are people still contracting the virus?
This is my last post on this subject. I’m sure I’ll get slammed by someone objecting to this topic being discussed in the basketball forum. I’m done and you can return to the herd with the rest of the sheep.

Amen. Completely agree. Masks are worthless, a joke, don’t do anything and didn’t work during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic either.

I have a theory. Don’t laugh. I’m just being a fan.
I just noticed that the Memphis team does not have a single SENIOR on their roster. My theory is that at this time of the year, seniors are seeing the end of their college days. For this reason, seniors are highly motivated. Dayton has five SENIORS, counting the walk-on, Mr. Greer, not to be confused with the new freshman named Greer joining the team next year. Senior status should help Dayton for all the reasons that we know such as knowledge of system, physically and mentally mature and motivation. Although, Grant should have no trouble motivating his team to perform in this game.

If masks work, why does Fauci recommend using two?
Also, viruses can enter through the eyes. Also, England no longer gets the flu.
Also, according to WHO standards, 186,000 people in the USA died of covid only (no contributing factor, like terminal cancer or a head-on collision).
Also, over 90% of covid fatalities are people over 80. Also,
there's a lot of money in masks, sanitizers, hospital admissions and
vaccinations. Also, how about collateral damage like suicides, social unrest, fear , job losses, way of life, constitutional freedoms, etc?
Look up the death rate in the US and World for the last twenty years. Where's the huge increase due to covid?
The liberal media in Texas has declared Gov Abbott's lifting of mandated
safety measures (masks, gathering, etc.) a bad move that will cost Texans dearly!
The media will let you know when the coast is clear to get on with your life.
Meanwhile, keep buying their paper and read the covid section that's bigger than the sports section!

N1 masks are the only ones that scientists say work for sure. The others are a dice roll, and gators are worse than nothing.
Remember the six foot rule, after scientific study the CDC is looking at changing it to three feet.

Agree, can't believe the CDC has not sort of outlawed gators by now. I still see some sports teams coaches on TV wearing them. Gators are literally worse than wearing nothing at all. Wear a mask, ditch the gator.

What's happening in Denton?
MrsFF and I fly out today. Any gatherings? Pregame events? Good bars to watch hoops on Friday?
We also have 2 extra 100 level tickets if anyone is anyone is looking for seats. We've had the COVID, so we'll sit with anyone.

I don't care about virus loads. I want University or alumni funded free pregame snacks and beverages.
Chris is well aware of the emphasis that MrsFF and I put on proper hydration.

MrFlyerFanatic: Here goes: ( already have my tickets, see you there)
Flyer Events in DFW: I am reaching out to Erin Reilly '97 as she organizes this stuff. I just attend the Dallas Chapter events.
You can find all of the below addresses and phone numbers in Yelp.
Best BBQ: In Texas, its all about the Brisket. My vote goes to Hutchins (Frisco or McKinney) as the best. In Texas, you can order Brisket, two ways: 1) Lean or 2) Moist. I always get the moist. Hutchins has an "AYCE" option. I always go for all you can eat. That's why I'm fat. In second place is Cattleack BBQ, but they have limited hours.
Best Chicken: Babe's in Carrolton and be ready to join in and dance the "Chicken Dance" when the waiters stop serving food and jump into the aisle to start dancing. You can join in.
Don't miss Gaylord Texan. Its a great indoor walking opportunity with tropical plants. They also have several restaurants with big screen TVs.
Don't miss Dallas Cowboy stadium tour. You can also see Texas Ranger stadium.
Don't miss the long horn parade (its FREE every day at 11:30am and 4pm) and get tickets for the Stockyards indoor rodeo in Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Stockyards. While you are there, buy some cowboy/cowgirl boots, hat, belt buckle and belt.
Outdoorsy: Search on Yelp for Fishing trips and go bass fishing on Lake Lewisville. There are several marinas to choose from. Albeit, you will not catch any 16 pounders in the Dallas area. You gotta' go to Lake O H Ivie to catch a bass that BIG (TEXAS BIG).
You can skip JFK memorial and Southfork.

Agree with recommendation for Hutchins (Frisco) for those making the trip to Dallas. Do get the fatty brisket, or at least go with the mix. Try to beat the rush.
Haywire (Plano; Legacy West) is a pretty cool restaurant. North Dallas feel. Elk tacos (appetizer) were great. Good menu and cocktails. Also a big food hall next door with a number of restaurants and bars. Heard some good food there as well.
If you like Mexican . . . Meso Maya is very good (a couple locations) - a little more upscale.
If you want the good ol' Tex-Mex experience (larger portions, queso, etc) La Hacienda (Frisco?) is solid.

Only consolation is that Memphis did the same to every NIiT team. Just helped expose the weakness of this years team and what needs to be improved.

Given that we played the overall #1 seed, I'd say we were the lowest four seed, last one in. In all fairness we should have sat and Belmont should have been in. They got screwed all the way around

Not sure Memphis was the number 1 seed. Obviously one of the top four though. That is a pretty good team. Several on here wanted to run us down for losing that game but I thought we played pretty well until the end when their numbers and talent surpassed us. Remember that were the number one recruiting class two years ago (including Wiseman.)

A few things on this. One, they were not the Overall #1 seed in the NIT. Based on the "standby/replacement tournament teams", those honors went to Colorado St. (sans Louisville's decline), then to SLU. But who knows how the NIT seeds the respective and corresponding "lines".
Further, for those who watched the UD/Memphis game, we played Memphis much better than than apparently Miss St. and Colorado St. did.
I'm not big on moral victories, but since some others were attempting to put some of this in perspective, I figured I'd offer some additional perspective.
