Overtime...without Kendall Pollard!! Time for Bobby to step up. He has had some good plays in him tonight...time for a few more.

There was deja vu of the 1.7 second, no timeout play from a few games ago, UMass. It is very hard to pull off in 2015.

Baby D will get a chance to redeem himself from 0-7. He needs to knock down some big shots.

We have no outside shooters. Sibert has lost his confidence and will not even shoot from the outside.

What was the difference between Sibert's shot and Pollard's? Pollard should have had a 3-point play.

On the replay, Scoochie failed to keep McDonald off the boards. He watched the ball instead of boxing out McDonald.

Get ready for St. Louis. Those cheap foul calls hurt us, especially with Pollard. He would have snared that last board.

Came down to rotten luck. Pierre does a great job of recognizing the drive and making the block. He blocks it farther, or a little to the left or right, and the Flyers go back to Dayton with a hardfought, well-deserved, comeback win. Can't fault the effort tonight.

I do not normally want to say the officiating is the reason for a loss no matter how bad they are, but lets just hope that Rollos poll has officials as one of the options to vote for this time. These guys made a few terrible calls that changed the entire game from the second Pierre picked up his second bogus call early in the game.

We can win with small ball, but we can't win with seven players. Also, it is high-time we get some bigs into our roster for next year. Why is it that virtually every team we play has a good big man? Seriously, why can't we get a good, stable big man like Larsen? We bet on the Northland guys and they pooped their pants!

MDFlyer: Pierre blocked two shots with the clock running down. The second block landed in the hands of GW's McDonald for an easy stick-back. Scoochie was watching the play unfold instead of sticking his body on McDonald. It was a sad, sad loss after coming back in overtime.

100%...so frustrating when you watch the replay. All he had to do is box out and he's got the rebound, probably gets fouled with the flyers up 1 and about .5 seconds left.
I just hope thus doesn't carry over to St. Louis. As long as they beat everyone else they should and only lose to VCU, 24-6 should have them dancing as long as they avoid a bad loss in the A-10 tourney.
Sucks though. This game and UMASS were both there for the taking. 17-5 is still pretty impressive considering all the adversity they've faced, but how sweet would 19-3 look right now?

Had 1 person not stunk up the joint I'd have had the refs included...but they didn't cost us the game as we benefited from some bad calls in the 2nd half as well.

At least I wasn't there this year to witness the buzzer beater. They should just start the game in the Smith Center with 10 seconds to go every other year.

Where was that sixth man when we needed him. Although I doubt these officials would have caught it.

So let's hope that's a lesson learned and he boxes out every single possession for the rest of his career.

We gave a superhuman effort the whole game until that last put back. Scoochie got caught watching the action and froze. Didn't even react. Incredible.
Oh yeh, freethrows and defense kept us in the game. Can't deny that. Just as P- poor 3pt shooting almost buried us. But it came down to one more "effort" play and we spit the bit.

Also, do we ever hit last second shots to win in the A-10? Seems like this is about the 3rd or 4th time GW has done it to us. Rhode Island has at least 3 or 4 times, and freaking St. Joes did it to us twice last year. For the life of me in the 20 or so years we've been in the A-10 I can't think of any we've had. I am sure there are some just none come to mind. Anyone recall any?

This is like the 5th or 6th buzzer beating loss to GW at GW. For some reason its the order of the universe. Kind of like losing to Rhody and never playing well at SJU. For some reason we cannot win big ones on the road.
I liked the fight in our guys though. Pollard, Pierre, Davis, Sibert were all tough tonight. At times it felt like it was 8 on 5 out there. No one will ever know why Pollard did not get the And-1 call late in regulation. But we made just enough mistakes to lose as well.
This one feels like 2 or 3 losses because its deja vu all over again in Foggy Bottom.
But this team fights to the end. It may not be perfect, but we're playing 6 guys that were recruited basketball players and only five of them were available in the last 8 minutes. We have limitations in depth and size. Not having Pollard in there to block out or swat that shot to midcourt didnt help.
But its hard to hold your head too much when you've got guys that give everything they have. They made a lot of big plays too. Usually when you get down 6 in OT on the road, you're toast. We somehow took the lead. But, 6 seconds is way too long. We've seen it too many times.
Moving on.

There was no rebound involved and this is where I wonder if you can blame it on a missed box out. Being in position for a rebound is quite different than being in position for a blocked shot. It seems to me someone else was there for the box out but blocked shot went over his head and into McDonald's hands.

Pierre gets called for a BS charge instead of an and one, Pollard makes a shot that they wave off. At least a two point and probably a four point swing, Flyers win in regulation. However, what a great effort by the Flyers, these guys just don't quit.

I haven't seen anything mentioned about that play where GW's coach went ballistic and got it overturned. GW player was holding ball about waste high in front of their bench, Baby D takes a swipe at it and touches it, GW player maintains control and starts to bring ball over his head for a pass and the ball goes backward out of his hands and out of bounds. GW gets ball for a reason that's beyond me, and hits a 3.

No doubt that the refs were as bad a crew as I've seen all season. Just awful. Still have to overcome.

Unfortunately, this is true. Had chances @ Arkansas, @ Davidson, @ UMass, and @ GW and couldn't get it done. We needed to win at least one of those games. Too bad because Dayton is a better team than Davidson, UMass, and GW.
Probably gonna have to win @ VCU now as that's our last chance at a good road win.

With the game tied at the end of the game, I was thinking we should have fouled with some time left on the clock. Even if they made both fts, we could have played for 1, 3 point shot. Either win or go home. I didn't think we had a chance in OT.
Then when we were down 6 in OT, I was ready to turn it off, thinking there was no way we could come back.
It is tough to think about what would have been a win for the ages turning into one of the toughest losses ever but that was one gutty performance. This was the game where our short bench finally caught up to us. They were a physical team and we did not hit enough outside shots when we needed them most.
Go Flyers. Go take the next 5 and then we get that big win on the road.

I love our team and not looking for any excuses. They played their collective hearts out.
But it is perplexing why Scooch didn't go to the hoop. We have known for months that all 5 on the floor have to board. I don't think he would have even needed to block out. Just go hit the boards. What other job is there in that situation for him at that point?

Actually the GW coach went ballistic on several plays and either got it reversed or got it called his way after the refs talked it over at center court. Very fishy ref job to say the least.
And yet our seven almost beat their 13+3.

UD lost this game at the beginning of OT when they were outscored 7 - nothing. Better defense and more controlled offensive sets at the beginning would have produced an opportunity to win.

Actually we didn't lose it then. Of course it did not feel good being down actually 6 (not 7) in the first two minutes of overtime. But that's only 2 possessions. One minute later Sibert's bucket & one made it a one possession game with two minutes remaining. There were a lot of things, most of them mentioned in several threads, which could have made our life easier at the end. But the bottom line is we were in the LEAD, with 6 seconds to go. The team that made the next play was going to win. Played awesome defense, and them suffered a lapse that gave GW the game.
