2018 NCAA Tournament thread
Wright State not putting up much of a fight, have scored 8 points in 12+ minutes.
Rhode Island also not looking good early, down 4 at half.

Wright State looks like UD this year on the road.
Not much talent on that team.

The RI game is coming down to the wire.
RI missed some good opportunities to put this game away.

Don't count your money at the half or close to the half at this point. Most good teams methodically beat their opponents down.

Wish they would've lost by 2 more points. Because Flyers only had one more lopsided score in their NCAA history and that was losing by 27 to Michigan in 1965. Though that was in the sweet 16 so we've never looked that bad.

Loyola (Chicago) will make their first NCAA appearance in 33 years starting in a few moments on Tru. Here is a "color" story on their team chaplain:

An ESPN basketball writer is blogging that the NCAAT already has their 1st upset as URI beat Oklahoma.
URI was a 7-seed and beat a 10.
URI was favored by 2.
Here is her post...
"Already the first upset in the NCAA tournament as Rhode Island takes down Oklahoma in overtime..."
What is it about 'Staff Writers' and their inability to report the truth?
UGH!

She probably didn't do her homework and watched the broadcast where the first 44.5 minutes they announcers made it sound like RI was the underdog until when it was clear RI would win, one said "By the way, this would not be an upset because RI is a 7 seed Oklahoma a 10".
Heck, even in the studio they all laughed at Sir Charles for picking RI to win a couple games saying "There's no way they are getting by Oklahoma".

Loyola has an impressive freshman big man. They are in by virtue of winning the conf tourney (I think). If Wichita St doesn't leave the MVC, they probably wouldn't have gotten this chance. Go Ramblers!

Make that for sure Duke vs RI. It will be interesting how RI deals with the size mismatch and vice versa. Duke can be beat. Just ask St John's and BC.

SD just self destructed with a poor three early in the shot clock and fouling the three point shooter twice in less than a minute.

To the “elite” among us, an upset happens any time any P5 team loses to a non-P5 team. Even if the P5 team was 2-25 and the non-P5 team was 25-2 at the time.

Davidson needs to make U.K. settle for threes. UK scored more points in the paint in the first half than the Wildcats had points.

Ky ends up with no threes. Of course when you can take in the paint every time, why shoot threes.

Zero field goals for Adams in first half. And Bonnies 1/11 from 3.

The Bonnie’s beat UCLA with minimal contributions from Adams. I thought they got away with one. I doubt they win this game without Adams playing much better in the 2nd half.

They need to pretend they’re playing our Flyers. They’ll start making 3’s like nobody’s business.
Seriously, though, this is sad to see. They’re a better team than this.

Buffalo’s guard play was unreal. So quick. And their D was even better. AZ had a huge size advantage but could not get the ball to their bigs because Buffalo played the best D I’ve seen in a long, long time.
If a P5 conference can be eliminated every round of the tournament, or close, that would be awesome. It won’t happen, but the PAC 12 going down before the second round is a good start.

Mobley reminded me a lot of Chip Jones -- a natural streaky scorer that put the ball in the basket both as a shooter and penetrating player. Typically scores in big chunks. Very thin with pipe cleaners for legs -- very similar body types. High level athlete that can finish above the rim. Sometimes takes ill-advised heat-check shots. In many ways both were untamed colts that oftentimes did what great thoroughbreds do -- run away from you. But sometimes ran their own race as well. When they were on, they were the best player on the floor even against good teams. But they also had a propensity to pull disappearing acts too.

I watched most of this fiasco. They looked tired. I think all the travel took its toll. Dayton was lucky the year we played the first 4 at home and the next game was only 90 minutes away.

Sean Miller and his players phoned that one in big time. Especially in the second half. They had championship talent and a 16 seed psyche.

Now we see how UD beat Bonnie. That team was sky high against UCLA, and brought little emotion or energy the next game. Consistency lets you advance far in the tourney.
And then there is Rob Gray. He was not only the best player in Houston, but the best in all of Day1. I had never seen him play before yesterday. Wow, what a player and athlete. I do not know how he escaped the grasp of the NC schools, other than he seems to be a late bloomer and maybe grades. He played his freshman year at Howard Jr College in TX, where he spent two years.
Rob Gray was asked about his man bun, "I already got 6'6" defenders on me, I can't have hair all in my eyes. I need to be able to concentrate, so I just throw it back in a bun," he said.
Maybe Coach Grant can make it mandatory for next year.

Chip became academically ineligible. He was honored in the MVP series this seson. The articles on the MVPs were very good, a lot of follow-up info on their life and some tidbits from their playing years that I didn't know. I couldn't find my program with Chip's write-up, but if memory serves, he later obtained his degree from UD (kudos to him and the U) and works with youth in the Cincy area. I am sure someone will correct me if I am mistaken.

Backtracking to the Arizona fiasco, what a gutless performance by the Wildcats. Buffalo played great, but they weren't given much of a challenge. Interesting that Trier and Ayton declared for the draft within hours after getting their a$$ kicked. Both are soft, I wouldn't want either of them on an NBA team.

That's a pretty sad first memory. Chip would have benefited from the academic structure that BG introduced. Sad that it didn't come in time to help him. He was such a talent.

Ignorant comment in regards to Ayton and it's why you would get fired within the first 30 seconds you walked into a NBA front office..

Marshall returns their top 9 scorers for next year. Depending on what happens this year, they could make another run next year.
Also looks like this year instead of the traditional 5/12 upsets, we're getting a number of 4/13 upsets.
