Thank You Jordan Sibert

Thank you Jordan Sibert ! This being your last start in the Arena I will be one of 13k tonight standing in your honor as a send-off. What a pick up he was.

Nice article in today's DDN about Sibert and Archie.
Don't know about student attendance tonight. I just saw on my UD 2015 calendar that mid-term break starts after classes today.
Need to sell extra tickets for others to use the student seats or maybe lots of them will wait till tomorrow to leave.
We need to be loud and red tonight. No more URI last second winning shots.

From the academic calendar:

"Wed, Mar 4 Mid-Term Break begins after last class "

Break starts Thursday....or, as UD puts it, after your last class on Wednesday.

Since I live in Germany, I can obviously not be at the game. Having said that, I will wake up at 0100 to watch on my 60" TV (the magic of my Slingbox) and will do my best to cheer as loud as possible to ensure that JS and the rest of the guys know how much I appreciate them. I am VERY excited for this game and hope that we take Rhody behind the woodshed and punish them for all their recent lucky wins against UD!!

Definitely miss being in the Arena, but my old man assured me that he'll be cheering from his seat in 115, as always!! For the rest of you who are lucky enough to be present, I challenge you to cheer your asses off and make the Arena so loud that I get chills watching from my couch!!!

BEAT 'EM!!!

Jordan was co-player of the week in the A10 last week.

He has had an incredible year, especially considering his wrist injury.

Tremendous player and a first class young man. It's no wonder he didn't fit in at ohio state. Thank you for taking this team to where nobody thought we could go.

I wouldn't be surprised if he hangs 35 on URI tonight.

Looking forward to this quality kid leading UD into another tournament.

Some programs win with P's OS leading the way, Dayton wins with kids like this.

Here's hoping the rest of our team emulates this guy on and off the court for many years to come.

Let's blast this team tonight!!!

I met and talked to Jordan before the beginning of last year's season. Told him I was happy he was a Flyer and was excited to watch him play. Had no idea how happy and excited I would be during his two seasons. Thank you, Jordan, you have left your mark on Dayton Basketball!

A Program Changer

Thank you Jordan for your contribution to the advancement of Dayton Flyer Men's basketball.
I believe history will record the Archie Miller era to be the best ever in Dayton Men's basketball. History will also document Jordan Sibert as the most important recruit in Coach Miller's first year at Dayton. You have progressed through dedication and hard work from a catch and shoot three point specialist to a scorer, defender, steal and tipped ball player, rebounder, foul shooter and passer. You have won games for the Flyers with your hustle and your skill. As a senior you have grown into an extraordinary team leader and team spokesman. Best wishes to you in your future endeavors. In my book you were personally responsible for transforming the Dayton Flyers into The University of Dayton Flyers.

Is Jordan the greatest transfer in UD men's basketball history? I can't think of anyone better in my lifetime. Sedric Toney was pretty good I believe, as he made the NBA, but he was a little before my time. Colbert was a transfer wasn't he? My rankings would be:

1.) Sibert
2.) Toney
3.) Hoskins
4.) Colbert
5.) Vee

That's off the top of my head, but 2 of those transfers were Archie's doing.

Ramod went to prep school for a year, not a juco transfer. I think Chip Jones was a juco transfer though, that dude was awesome. Also DJ Stelly was a good pick up too.

But Jordan is the best. ..

Yeah, Ramod prepped at Bridgton academy in Maine I believe. Jirsa had recruited him in high school at Georgia, and hung with him through his prep year to get him to Dayton.

I'm right with you:

Sibert
TONeY
Colbert
Vee
STELLY

didn't see Hoskins but saw the rest.

who's in the Next 5?

On the way home from the game, I was listening to Flyer Feedback, and they were talking about Sibert's success as a transfer. While they were talking, the name Dave Colbert came to mind. In terms of leadership (statistical & otherwise) and program impact, that's the closest parallel I can find in the D-I to D-I Transfer category. If you want to include JUCOs, then you need to go include Sedric Toney & George Jackson. Sed was the PG and a prime outside shooting threat on back-to-back NCAA squads. Big George was UD's version of Wes Unseld from 1969-71, a 6'7", 245-pound bruiser who averaged 14.5 rebounds/game in his 2-year career. And though it's a different game now than it was 45 years ago, to put that number in perspective, Ryan Perryman led the nation in rebounding in 1997-98 with an average of 12.5/game. Jackson averaged 2 boards/game more than that over a 2-year span. No disrespect intended to "P". Just trying to illustrate Jackson's contributions.

I'm good with that, assuming we've only had 10 transfers.

I'd put Josh Parker ahead of both those guys actually.

But yes, Jordan Sibert is number one I think.

It was a pretty surreal atmosphere at the game. Almost parade-like. And what a sendoff it was. I honestly think Jordan loves us as much as we loved him. He was in the spotlight from his first of many standing ovations when they announced his name as the lone senior. And the crowd went wild. And Jordan seemed in a surreal state himself after that. It just seemed like everything came his way. Had the one pick is all I saw. The game was so familiar as it started. I don't think RI missed two shots out of their first ten. Kyle was a real crowd pleaser tonight with his defense. I know but he picks two or three passes a game and they always land in bounds and end as a shot on goal. Mostly made goals. Dyshawn, where he plants with the head fake, turns 45 degrees then pivots and goes the other direction to complete the 270 degrees to the goal. If that guy can become a great finisher he could be an AA as a senior next year. KP looks like they have him on The Hickory diet. Is it me or has he gotten bigger as the season's gone on. The refs sucked again. I swear they were anticipating fouls were going to be committed. That's how they handled those danged quick whistles tonight. It was a really good time. Archie looked and sounded so proud as he spoke in the post game about Jordan, the team, and the fans. I really think Arch is still surprised by how hard we bring it as fans. Scooch raises his hands, the crowd gets loud, RI turns the ball over. Chalk two goals up to the sixth man tonight. Announcer thanked the fans for bringing it enough to help propel the team to an undefeated season on the home court. Great night. We beat a good team. The refs got a lot of exposure for their scouts in the stands. Some real blowhards those guys.

Best part was, Jordan did not miss a shot all night. 6-6 from the field, 8-8 from the line. Those 3 FT's after the foul really put some separation into the game, gave us a 6 point lead late 1st half, and I don't believe URI was closer than 6 the rest of the game.

I hope we can find a scorer like Jordan next year, but he'll never be replaced. I hope we can finish out his senior year strong... he deserves it.

That 3 against IPFW... the 3 against Syracuse with under a minute to go to give us a 6 point lead... and now 21 points on senior night, including 15 in the first half. If he hadn't hit the bench with foul trouble, he very well could have approached 30.

Thumbs up

Sibert - UNbelieveable!

A pure BB player no wait capitalize that PLAYER

I think there have been a few players I have seen and Sibert is one of them that gets stronger as the season moves along.

They let the game come to them.

May
Smith
Davis
Paxton
BRob

I could go on but Sibert here for 2 years certainly ranks with some of the great one's who have player in a UD uni.

Sibert has been unbelievable for us. I can't believe Matta couldn't find a spot for him on that Ohio St. team. Scary to think where we would be without Jordan.

By the way, if my calculations are correct, I believe he's only about 67 points or so shy of 1,000 points just as a Flyer. I really hope he can get there. I know Dave Colbert scored 1,000 in two years. Anyone else know if there are others who did that in two years?

i also think Jordan is fairly close to NBA ready. Definitely closer than BRian Roberts and CJ were.

Needs to keep driving and work on in traffic scoring from the dribble.

Just incredible how far he's come in a short time. And oh yeah, Thad ----- thumbing my nose at ya!

forgot Toney was a Juco transfer. good work by Donoher finding him.

I saw him in the Pac between his first and second season shooting. Pretty stellar from deep. had weird release but he certainly got it done.

Also forgot about Josh Parker. Yes, would put him ahead of Perry.

Correct. 933 career UD points.

No. Only Colbert (1049), Jordan Sibert (933 and counting) and Kevin Dillard (913) have scored at least 900 pts in their only 2 seasons at UD. (This isn't a points over any 2 UD career years, but rather their only 2 year careers.) I had to go to a minimum of 700 to the next 3 players, Vee Sanford (735), Sedric Toney (722) and George Jackson (714).

This is a very nice article with some very nice quotes from Sibert and coach Miller. Dave Jablonski tweeted the link.

It's a great time to be a Flyer fan. What a night by Jordan.

“One thing I didn’t want him to do when he got here was to think he had a free pass, like he’s the coach’s buddy — no favoritism, Jordan got dealt with harder than anybody here. He earned it the hard way. He keeps his mouth shut. He works hard. He’s developed himself into a terrific player. He’s a great leader. He’s always been good off the floor. He does his job. You couldn’t ask anything more.” - Archie Miller on Sibert

Ced was a great player from from my old school, Wilbur Wright. Go Pilots. Red and Black forever. Corbitt was a great player too. Ramod Marshall was a really good player.

Now, being honest I think Darnell was a little disenchanted at UD. Won't rank him high. DJ Stelley wasn't very good. Sandoval didn't play like a transfer because it took him his whole UD career to learn remedial basketball.

I never had this view of Hoskins. He once said his biggest regret was not going to Dayton right out of high school. He's also the only senior I can remember who, on senior night, bent down at center court and kissed the D.
