Any news about his injury? Didn't look good on the way to the locker room.

Well that's the 3rd Dayton victory this year we have been unable to enjoy because of an injury to a key player. That has to be some kind of record.

Archie said after the game it was a sprained ankle! Hopefully, a minor one and he won't be out long.

What about DD? Wasn't he rubbing his knee on the bench. Commentators mentioned and you could see Cooke wincing going down court after a layup yet he was still in the game with a 15 point lead.
Any word on them? Can't afford to lose anyone to injuries. Maybe UMASS will defeat Rhode Island today.

Truth to this. but with everything as chaotic as it already is, i think we are better off rooting for what situates us best in tiebreakers where VCU, Richmond,St. Bonaventure and Rhode Island are concerned.
All about best position for Pittsburgh. And that #1 seed. We will be the best represented school there by far.

Jablonski on Twitter this morning:
"Archie Miller says Kyle Davis is day-to-day with ankle sprain. He's off his feet right now. Probably won't practice today."

Everybody just remain calm and wait for Jablonski to tweet KD's status out once he gets to the arena and finds out. Flybye might be right or he might be wrong but as with all UD injuries you really don't know anything until right before the game.

At the same time, you probably want to get him some minutes, if he's good to go, before the VCU game.

Just depends on how it feels but if there was a game to rest him this would be it. Also his game is more effort and hard play than say Cooke who struggled after his layoff. Easier for KD to play his game after a layoff in my opinion.

Archie already said Kyle isn't expected to play Sunday, but I wouldn't worry too much about him being in a walking boot. They literally put these kids in them for anything these days. At one of my past schools DI schools I worked at, our basketball team had a kid that was in a boot everyday for a month except when he was practicing and when they had games. He was good enough to play and practice full go, it was 100% precautionary. People would be shocked if they saw how often players are in walking boots throughout the season, especially for football and basketball players.

Jablonski tweeted that Archie said he doesn't expect KD to play Sunday and showed a picture of KD riding piggyback up the ramp on a trainers back after the game.
As for the boot I wouldn't read that much into that nowadays. It's pretty much standard operating procedure to put anybody with an ankle injury in a boot instead of the old Aircast they used to put on people. If I remember correctly Cooke played a game last year and was wearing a boot the day before.

I am certain we would all like to hope and think that KD will not be needed to win the Sunday game. But, you never know. Hopefully it will not matte for Sunday.
Looking forward though, I hated to see the boot, as I was hoping for even better news than that. If anyone has the heart, courage, and toughness to comeback, it is without a doubt Kyle Davis.

So how was his practice? You can get by in a game against half this league without Kyle. VCU at the Siegle Center isn't one of them.

Kyle really had a pretty severe injury. I'm not surprised that he would be held back a bit more. Think your right that we could beat half the league without the whole Kyle.
But we won't beat most of the other half of the league with half of a Kyle either. His real value is the 110% he can bring when he is fully able.

Bingo.
Coming back early on a sprain means he doesn't get 100% for a while. I had one that jacked me around for half a season because I wanted to come back too soon and fooled medical into thinking I was ready...I wasn't.

I saw that Kyle is going to be a game time decision tonight. It is so important that he plays tonight even if he's not 100% percent. Other than Scoochie I think Kyle is the most important player on the team and we've been lucky our last two games without him have been against weaker teams. I don't like our odds if he can't go tonight.
Fingers crossed.

It's the little things that make Kyle valuable. And all of them require quick feet and hands.
If he isn't 100% then he can't do all the little things. We don't count on him to fill up the scoring columns. I feel that if he can't go 100% for 25 minutes, it's too much risk to squeeze 10 minutes out of him, and he probably wouldn't be himself if he did.
2 cents.

Gamer. He is gaining confidence in his shot. If the Flyers pick it up on the boards I think we got the answer for teams that choose to leave him alone. I predict he will be voted team mvp this year. Last year I would've not wanted Kyle taking 3-pt. shots. Presently I think he may be our most consistent shooter. What a turn-around.

The discussion may be buried in some other thread but what do you think the deal is with Kyle not starting last night? Is he still hurting or does Archie like the substitution pattern better with Kyle coming off the bench?

I think he likes the substitution pattern with KD coming off the bench, but as I've heard many a coach tell players that the real starters are the 5 guys who finish the game.
Hopefully Archie takes advantage of this substitution pattern to try out the new backup PG options the next couple of games. He can sub Darrell back in for Scoochie around the 13 or 14 minute mark and let either Darrell or KD play point until after the under 12 timeout. Then bring Scoochie in for Cooke after the under 12. 4 guards for 3 spots and Crosby only plays if one of them gets a 3rd foul.
EDIT: I left out the obvious first substitution which is KD coming in for Darrell at around the 16 minute mark

I just looked at the box score and Kyle play 27 min. DD played 21. Scooch 35 and Crosby 5. I think we may be seeing more of this.

That is 5 minutes too many for Crosby.

5 minutes isn't too much for Crosby, IF those 5 minutes come in the 1st half. Keep Scoochie fresh for the 2nd half, which is my prediction for the gameplan moving forward. If Scooch needs a break in 2nd half or gets in foul trouble, Darrell will take over at point. Crosby is just way too out of control right now. If this was Madden, his "Awareness" grade would be like 45...

its way too many.
He simply cannot play at this level. He is uncanny in his ability to immediately drive into the lane and turn it over. He does it over and over again. His nickname should be "groundhogday". Our best outcome with him playing point is getting a jump ball. 50% of the time we get it back.
It seemed that finally Archie has seen the light (amazing it took this long) when he went with DD and Kyle when SS needed a blow.

That's a possibility. Throw him out there and see what happens in the first half simply to get Scoochie a couple breathers. The other issue besides his turnovers is that he's a defensive liability to.

That tip on the Fordham inbounds play that resulted in a steal for another Flyer is so KD. It doesn't show up in the boxscore but it's the sort of winning play that he seems to make all of the time.

I don't think Crosby is hopeless. I've seen flashes of ability here and there. He's going through the same kind of "spastic" phase that other players have gone through. Ray
Springer and London Warren come to mind and they eventually settled down into decent players. If, today, he is a warm body to give SS and others a breather, so be it. His time will come. I hope he is not seeing the nasty comments here. He's probably beating himself up enough, as it is.
I say, "Hang in there, John! Good things will happen with hard work and dedication."

I disagree. He needs to see the floor. When/if he plays better or the offense flows better, he'll get more minutes. Unless Scooch is in foul trouble, then he'll play out of necessity.
I am just happy that the staff is recognizing much quicker when it's not working and his leash is short.

His nickname should be T.O. for Turnover. And at times, he's able to get to the hoop, but can't finish at all! And he is a dreadful outside shooter!

Nasty comments? I really haven't seen anything that's been nasty or attacking. Simple observation(s) regarding his on floor performance. He knows how he's performed. He's not seeing anything out here that he hasn't already heard from staff or knows himself.
If he wants to see the floor consistently, he needs to play better. This isn't junior high. This is high-level D1 and it's the big time. Wear big boy pants.

Scoochie makes the game look like he is playing in slow motion. Crosby looks like he is playing in fast forward. I hope Scoochie is trying to mentor Crosby.

Maybe I can help Crosby like I did for XW. Last year many times on this board I said that XW had absolutely no basketball skill and would never make a difference at UD for his four years. I readily admit that I was wrong there, thankfully.
So here goes...John Crosby, while somewhat athletic, does not have any basketball skill whatsoever and will never amount to anything at UD. In fact it would not surprise me if he transferred at the end of this year to a D2 or D3 school.
There maybe he can make me eat my words like XW did!

Twice last night, as I was watching the Fordham game, I got to yell out, "sandwich" as Kyle was going to the basket for a layup! My wife was talking to me on the second one and she said, "why did you just say sandwich"? So I had to proceed and tell her what BRob2 Perryman3 said about having time to either make a sandwich or at least take a bite of one because it was a sure thing! He is MONEY and I just love the way he plays!
Archie says that Kyle Davis is the heart and soul of the team and I have to agree!

Starting DD over KD is pure insanity. Archie himself said KD is their MVP so far this year. MVPs don't come off the bench. One player for this team sets the tone for energy and effort each and every nigh. Not starting him will cost us especially with a significantly flawed replacement

I'm really hoping to see KD back in the starting lineup and playing 30+ minutes starting with Duquesne.

I think this has more to do with KD recovering from his injury than anything else. I am confident he will start again, and I hope soon. He is a game changer and we need his leadership on the floor, especially on the road where we have not played with much heart or toughness lately.

I hope you're right because I agree with everything you said. What worries me though is that Kyle at least 'looks' injury free right now with how well he's moving and still isn't starting but I guess that's hard for us to really know. Guy looks like he could, and probably wants to, play 40 minutes a game.

In the most recent comment by Archie (that I have heard) he said Kyle might be 90+%. Even Kyle said he is not 100%. Archie is not playing him in the early stage of games so he can have him on the court at the end (of the games..and the season).

Any thoughts on Kyle not starting again? Is he not 100%? Does AM like having him off the bench in a sixth man capacity for matchups?
And assuming JC comes back as predicted, what is your starting lineup down the stretch once he is 100%? Obviously AM will gradually work him into the lineup...

I think Archie likes the rotation better with KD coming off the bench. It lets DD play with better players and he gets more open shots since the defense is more likely to help off him with the starters in the game.
As for Cunningham I think he will most likely just come off the bench. Bringing in KD and JC is a great luxury and doesn't disrupt the substitution pattern. He basically becomes Sam Miller but Archie can bring him in much sooner and play him much more. I know everyone puts a lot of emphasis on who starts the game, but what really matters is who plays in crunch time. Once JC is back my cruchtime lineup is:
1. Scoochie
2. KD
3. Cooke
4. KP
5. Cunningham

An excerpt from Archdeacon article
http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/spo...ef=cbTopWidget
“I think he’s back into form. He looks himself,” Miller said. “Like I’ve said, he’s pretty much been our MVP all year, from day one on and off the floor. It’s not that other guys haven’t done good things, but he hasn’t changed one bit. He’s very much the sane from the start of the season to today.”
Miller said if you looked at his output Saturday “you wouldn’t know if he started or not. He doesn’t care about starting, doesn’t care about anything but winning.
“And that’s contagious He’s allowed other guys on the floor to do things they wouldn’t (otherwise) be able to do. And he just does everything you ask a guy to do. He’s so unselfish at both ends of the floor “

Great quote by AM. Sums up KD perfectly! Great to see KD get the accolades he deserves because his statistics don't do justice to the impact he has had on this program for the last four years.
