why i enjoy javon bennet so much
Bennet at the pt is so perfect. when he does comitt a TO he hustles back and iiknocks ball away. he's even ikeel even after a huge bucket he's still focused and ready for next play. Not much ego in that guy just will to push to next play. and we DO NOT see him getting blocked at the rim on silly drives too much like we did last yr w someone else... and no back talk to refs just focused.. Hmm...yes i am liking him to run the show rest of the year and beyond. Once he gets more chemistry and trust w holmes watch out A10. and he can get his shot off quickly and is quick. granted only 1 assist in stj game but 5 steals which is his specialty. needle moving up for bennet for sure

Amen! And he goes and gets the ball, and always is aware of the shot clock.

In a perfect world he's not our lead PG. We need someone with a bit more size and physicality to dribble-drive and finish ala a Scoochie. Even a Malachi. But he's been put in a spot he didn't ask for and is handling it well. Fans need to give him some leash as it will take some time for him to grow into this huge new responsibility and find his pace/rhythm. He needs his teammates to help him out and take some of the load off him so its not all on his shoulders.
Can we find another ball-handler on the Christmas free agency wire?

ask Wake fans what they thought of Muggsy Bogues.....
not saying he is Muggsy, but perfect world doesn't do anything
for me.. We have a player who is outside the box and I don't care.
He is only getting better.... I can't wait till A10 play and see how
he has developed. I have no problem with his size, height, etc. I
care about intensity, desire, heart = he has all of that...
just a lot more under control, seems to me

Did Muggsy dunk? Spud Webb did, but Muggsy was 4 inches shorter.

at the time Muggsy played, I was living in Greensboro, saw a lot of Wake
games at the Greensboro Coliseum, never saw him dunk, so thinking
probably not.... He was always the quickest player on the court, both
teams.... Just an incredible first two steps

that would be awesome, but that is a created video by a fan, not real...
Muggsy: I tipped (dunked) in college and dunked in high school. I can still touch the rim. I’ve always been a guy who has been able to get off my feet. I’ve still got a little hop to my game.

Javon Bennett is my new favorite flyer. We have not had anyone since Kyle Davis that leaves it all on the floor. He needs to work on getting his 2 and 3 point percentages up and getting more assists. I dont think we need another primary point guard as he is the floor general we need, defensive pest, and his level of effort will help lead this team this year.

I agree. He is the solution at point for this year. The one thing he cannot control, his height, is what teams will exploit. None the less, he's done solid work given his opportunity, and it's a good thing he was brought in.

Javon can dunk. He has done it in warmups the last two games. But who cares it is still only 2 points. He is listed as 5'10". My wife says he is closer to 5"4" and I say 5'8", but who cares, it is the size of his heart and talent that are huge.
Those of you who want to nitpick on his ability to drive to the basket, I think you think of former guards in their junior and senior year against A10 talent. Mali can drive, but then what? He shot 40% on two's last year. Too early to judge whether Javon can get to the basket.

In college his size is enough to get the job done and more. His active hands and feet along with his basketball IQ are what make up for a few inches. I would not swap him with another UD pg of recent times with the exception of possibly Scoochie. And you have to remember he is only a sophomore. I expect him to get even better with more seasoning. I have no fear of a pg collapse in the ending of a close game. The guy has tremendous ball security and he can hit foul shots. He is quick enough to go right around double teams before they form. He has good passing instincts. And when he does make a turnover, he seems to make up for it with 1 or 2 steals. There was a play against St. Johns, where a St. Johns player threw the ball out of bounds trying to pass over the top of Bennett. I'm sure it was considered just a t/o on the stat sheet, but Javon created it.
I am concerned about the pg depth behind him now. If he were to be in foul trouble, I would get very concerned. I think that Bennett can handle a lot of pressure, but the options behind him are a gamble with a press IMO. And if we ask him to go 40 against a high pressure pressing defense, he is going to need some breaks.
I think Bennett is great against the press, but I am sometimes disappointed in the other guys moving and coming to the pass.
Santos and Holmes do a nice job of bringing the ball down the court when necessary, so that works in our favor a lot as well.
I am very curious to see how we handle the physical Houston defense. That is going to be a huge test for us. I'm not sure what to expect.

Javon competed hard tonight, and had a few good plays. His three shooting was rough, but that drive to the rack was just what many of you are asking for. Tough night, but better than Elvis, Brea and Cheeks showed us, as those guys did not compete.

Our guards yesterday: 10 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 turnovers on 2-22 shooting.
Houston guards: 54 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 turnovers on 20-50 shooting.

Elvis was afraid to pull the trigger on threes in the second half, even about the four times he was wide open. He either drove and missed the shot or passed.
As for Brea, he just could not compete with their defense. First game in awhile he had no open threes. He forced his three shots. Great player, but lacking some quickness, and Houston knew it.
Very disappointed in Cheeks. He looks to play exactly like Blakney, that is good defense, nervous with the ball, little offense of rebounding.
We need a stud shooting guard, big time!
