Chatman Running the Offense
Does anyone know if Grant has addressed Chatman running the offense this year?
Crutcher and Chatman split time at the point last year, but this year it seems it's Chatman almost exclusively.
It seems really strange that they've chosen to take the ball out of their best player's hands. I can certainly see some justification for balancing the court with Crutcher and Watson on the wings, but thus far Crutcher looks much less dynamic (and at times frustrated). Of course, the lottery pick and two seniors disappearing will knock everyone's game down a peg.
I imagine the dual PG situation will work its way out over the course of the season, but Crutcher's sruggled through the first two games, and I was wondering if Grant had explained what he's trying to do.

One issue is that our opponents read Jalen's press clippings too. He is getting double teamed and triple teamed. If we were facing him as an opponent we would want the ball out of his hands as well. Rodney is going to have to figure it all out, or we are going down.

You see that in the NBA sometimes, the opposition doubles the PG when he crosses halfcourt. You're playing 4 on 3 from there. If I'm Grant, I'd invite that every time down the floor.
However you slice it, it doesn't seem the coaches are putting Crutcher in a position to succeed. Here's hoping the offense continues to evolve and we see both Watson and Crutcher goinig off.

I like Chatman a lot and hope he returns to the lineup soon, but I don't think it's a coincidence that Crutcher played his best game of the season tonight when he was given the opprtunity to run the point for 40 minutes. I hope we continue to see Crutcher with the ball in his hands going forward, Chatman or no Chatman. This team is going to go as far as Crutcher can take them. Let him steer the ship.

He had no choice today.
Posted the same comment under the POG thread. (was on a road trip listening on radio) Keith W kept saying "this is as comfortable as I've seen Crutcher all year".
Draw your own conclusions.

Chatman is just a ball killer. He accepts the screen, then 1 of 4 things happens:
1. Guy goes under the screen and Chatman misses the 3.
2. Guy goes under the screen, and after missing 4 shots in a row, just waits for the defense to catch up so he doesn't have to miss again.
3. Defense doubles out of the ball screen, Chatman dribbles backwards because he's not crafty enough to solve the double. (Variation: dribble turnover.)
4. Big man switches, Chatman can't beat him off the dribble, passes to Jordy 30 feet from the basket, reverse the ball awkwardly while the defense resets.

Rodney is a valuable player on this team. Starting PG just isn’t that role. I’ve always said he isn’t a true PG because he doesn’t typically finish well at the rim, doesn’t see the court well, and he doesn’t have good PG instincts.
Hopefully today proves that to the only one that matters - AG and the experiment can end once he’s back.

Jalen needs to be running the 1. He does the job well and creates disruptions with the D.

No doubt Jalen running the offense is better. A tougher question is can Chatman adjust his attitude and game to playing the off guard? Maybe coach knows through his eyes the big struggle with that answer.

Struggle or not, what’s best for the team is paramount. Whether that’s having a flourishing Crutcher at the point and a sulking Chatman at the 2, or a struggling Chatman at the point and a frustrated Crutcher at the 2, is for CAG to decide. But, if it was put to a vote, I know how I would vote.

I don’t know everything going on in CAG’s head but I don’t think he is considering a playing a sulking anyone anywhere in the mix.
