Obi was instrumental on that last Davis drive. Help D never came over because he stayed on Obi to prevent the dump for a dunk.

I think we’re playing pretty well, all things considered. We’ve stemmed the offensive rebounds and slowed the turnovers. Getting very few calls. And Colorado is pretty good.

Good news is we are back to 5 on offense again. Bad news we are playing against 8.

Good call finally on the block. Of course, that would have been a charge Friday night since we seemed to be stressing that the defender can move as much as they wish.

Giving up dribble penetration opens up everything for the Buffs. It seems like Cohill loses his concentration and gets beat on the first step so often.

How about we just put Jalen out there to run around like a chicken with his head cut off. No discipline with this team when the game comes down to the wire.
Not going to cut it. McKinley definitely ate his lunch and stole tomorrow's lunch money.

Been an interesting ride this year. Obi’s a star. Hope to see him in a Flyer uni next season. Maybe the new bunch will figure out how to box out, hit FT’s, and break a zone. We made progress anyway. Thanks for fighting through the devastating ankle injury, Josh, and giving us what you could.

This is the way the whole season went! Just couldn't get over the hump. Refs didn't help any! Obi came in at 9:01! With no tomorrow I don't know if we just shouldn't have left him in! He never did pick up #4 and #5!

Yeah, the altitude would have been easier to take if we had 12 guys we could rotate in. With only 7, though, you could see we were totally gassed in the last 4 minutes. Nothing left in the tank.
One consolation: the announcer just referred to tomorrow's game at "Eggsavier". When you can't have success, at least there's schadenfreude.

Typical and Toppin doesn't even touch the ball the last 5 minutes other than the ignorant high ball screen which UD can't even take advantage of. Colorado a terrible defensive team but when you miss umpteen bunnies and you hit one 3 the entire 2nd half what do you expect.
This team needs a PG really bad next year. One who is far more consistent.

Hard Fought Game... The boys should have nothing to be disappointed about, the played pretty darn well... Refs did them no favors.

I am looking forward to next year as well! Thanks, Josh for toughing it out the latter part of this season. Much success to you in your future endeavors! Also, thanks to all the rest of the team for providing your best effort, especially tonight. You could have come out and just went through the motions but it was evident you gave your all tonight.

The telltale stats from tonight:
Colorado had 5 more rebounds than us;
Total Fouls: UD 19, Colorado 12; which, in part, led to
Colorado made 8 more FTs than us, in a 5-point loss
If we had more gas in the tank at the end, we might have been able to pull this one out. Man, it'll be nice to have a full roster next year!
And 1 final note: if Frankie didn't see the court at the end of the game, when we needed a "designated fouler", he's not coming back next year. Best of luck, kid!
Now, let's go get Sean McNeil!

Why can't we finish a game? Is it Crutcher? Grant? Everytime we're close at the end, we fall apart.

Disappointing to see Josh finish his Flyer career so poorly. Didn’t resemble the player that he was for most of his career. Became hard to watch, has to be injured or completely lost all confidence in his game.

That was a fun game to watch. Both teams more or less executed their stuff. We shot lights out as usual. Missed 4-5 easy point blank bunnies last 6 minutes to put us in the hole we couldnt dig out of. Trey has been a culprit of this all season. Still, Colorado is a solid club with good talent and rarely lose on their home court. Thought we were well prepared, played hard, did what we needed to do for the most part. Back and forth game that was probably the best NIT game of the night and either side good enough to advance against another NIT foe.
Two things we need to shore up for next year: someone that can hit the open perimeter jumpshot, and some better D. For as good as we shoot the ball inside to inflate our shooting percentage, we miss WAY too many open threes. We hit the tough ones and clank the ones we should sink. We need to make teams pay for leaving us open. Defensively, we just need some more bodies and athleticism out there to battle the backboards, give us some more fouls, and put some more pressure on the ball.
I think both of these teams tonight showcased where they are headed next season. Both should be very good as they have good nuclei. Should be real interesting in Chicago.
No real complaints tonight in the performance. Execution was just sloppy inside 5ft when it needed to be on-point. Difference in the game was probably the home court.

If by every time you mean about 50% of the time then you're 100% correct.

Those 4 straight layup misses late were killers - one by Cunningham, two in a row on a single possession by Landers, and then another by Crutcher. That's 6 points. I think the altitude affected us somewhat. I saw some of our guys really sucking air down the stretch.
There was also that stretch in the second half where we played without either Obi or Josh on the floor due to foul trouble. That was a bad stretch.
It is pretty obvious what we need for next year - a second point guard to go with Crutcher, a rim protector and rebounder to go with Obi, a knock down shooter, and a defensive stopper. Knowing what was sitting on the bench in street clothes this year gives me hope.

Free Throws
Need to get to the line more. We got 3 happy for 4 straight misses in the first half. Missed bunnies down the stretch.
UD 8-11 FT
CU 16-18 FT
Lose by 5. Simple math. Good game though.

That is because we don't get a lot of dribble penetration.

Tough to overcome the foul discrepancy- and i know i’m a homer but for Christ’s sake at least i’m not a zebra. Btw, i think UD is nearly leading the nation by the least number of fouls/game....except tonight....hmmm

I wonder when Obi picked up his 3rd foul what would have happened (or if it would have changed the final outcome) if Anthony Grant called him over to the bench and said I'm leaving you in because we are going home if we lose. Just be careful these last 17 minutes and 11 seconds. He may have ended up with 30 points! He came back in with 9 minutes and 1 second remaining.
Realizing every Div. 1 coach in the nation would have done the same thing by sitting his star player picking up his 3rd foul that early in the second half I still would have liked to see if anything would have changed! Most other coaches would have 2 or 3 tall replacements but we didn't have any, and haven't had any all season!
Anthony Grant will be in seventh heaven next season when he has 13 or 14 interchangeable players who he can have confidence in so that when he substitutes someone into the game there is no dropoff in performance. Someone will surely have a hot hand from the outside. This past season we had no one!

Overall that is because of our style of play more than not getting whistles.
Our guys do a lot of settling and a lot of forcing. Neither get you calls or bail you out

I felt the game changed almost instantly when he came out; they had nobody to stop him. I thought the same thing; leave him in there. Even with 10 available players this year, it would have made a huge difference. Losing Matos so early hurt.

Obi and Ryan were great surprises this year. Problem is pretty much everyone else except maybe Crutcher didn’t quite live up to their expectations this year. Should be interesting to see who stays and who leaves.

You have to take Obi out but the difference is I would have put him back in there around the 12 minute mark and see where that takes them...

Ladies and Gentlemen it was a pleasure doing the Game Threads this year once again.
Saw a ton of improvement from Year 1 to Year 2... Onto 19-20 where the expectation should be getting back to the Tournament.

The team played hard last night and exceeded my expectations for this game - much closer than I thought. I sure would love to see Davis play as aggressive on offensive like he did in the second half last night for next season. Unfortunately, we needed that more this season as opposed to next when we will have more weapons.
Thank you Josh. It was a good run, but it's time. I feel like there was something physically going on with him the second half of the season. He just wasn't the same player.
Obi needs 1 more year for greatness. He needs more strength to succeed at the next level. Better defense and he's a bonafide 1st rounder no question after next season.
