The team that played today
Could make some noise next week in the A-10 tourney. Hopefully they will. It would be a helluva time to bring that kind of effort and execution.

The team that plays at UD Arena every game could make noise but they simply don't because they have to go on the road. Let's hope the neutral site can at least get them a game maybe two.

Glad we won. Great for the seniors. But we played against a fellow bottom feeder, at home on senior day. Hard to get pumped up over our future prospects in the a10 tourney. Must have missed the Lasalle, or Uri, or GM beat downs

#329 in TO%
#334 in RBDs
#340 in FGAs
#345 in 2PT FGAs
The Flyers are also 13th in the league in EFG% Defense (#311).
In other words, we dont take enough shots because we turn the ball over, cant rebound, and can't defend. That's definitely noise, but not the kind with a prayer of doing anything meaningful in Washington, DC. We have no defense that you need when away from home. Defense always travels -- unless there isnt one to pack.
We have about as much chance of doing something impressive as Richmond does. We have no defense, no consistency, no toughness in the trying moments, and have shown zero aptitude whatsoever to play winnable basketball away from UD Arena -- let alone routinely competitive.
Past performance is not always indicative of future results. In this case I think it will be. If we win a game, I consider it a step forward and put us in the same round as we "advanced" to a year ago.

Play the tournament at UD arena and this team has a good chance to go to the NCAA. Play anywhere else and the chances are slim and none.

12-4 at home. 2-12 away. Enough said.

Chris - to be fair, it's hard to be a good rebounding team when you're playing the equivalent of a top 25 offense every night.

This season's record is a disaster. Even for a rebuilding year, we should be better than 100 RPI and .500 or better. So for that to happen... we need 3 wins. Which would put us in the tournament.
Obviously, it's not looking good based on this season's results so far. But that's what it would take to get us back to .500.

I think we need 4 wins (i.e. Run The Weekend) to get into the tourney.

Don't see it. Our D is very bad. Even in the GW game, there were times GW ran off 6,7,8 buckets without us getting a stop.

We have a group of players that are very individually talented. Problem for the coaching staff is to get them to play cohesively to win more games.

You are right - my fault. I guess mentally I'm still in the 12-team A-10 where a bye means you only need to win 3, and there was all that talk about us getting a bye. But the top 4 seeds have a "double bye". We simply avoided the play-in games.
At any rate, 3-1 would mean a loss in the conference finals and it would get us to .500. I don't know if that would get us to top 100 RPI, though. I think a loss in the conference tourney finals would get us up to the point of making it an "acceptable" down-season. Right now the season is simply a disaster, even below what we should expect from a rebuilding year.
Of course, if we make the finals, we might as well go ahead and win one more game and upgrade from "acceptable rebuilding season" to "successful season". I mean as long as we're dreaming anyway.

"The team that played today"...
had a 6'10" red shirt freshman that made strides avoiding silly fouls and impacted the game. Kostas is our wildcard and he needs to build off the senior day performance if we have any chance to create a stir in the A10T...
I really want at least 1 win to give the guys confidence & carry over into the off season.

Personally, I like our draw. If Cunningham stays out of foul trouble and plays at least a little bit of defense against Tillman, we match up very well.
We smoked them at home. We went OT on the road. Ignoring Chris's "past performance - future results" comment, which is legit, I like our chances on a neutral floor.
Chaos remains for VCU, but it's not the good kind. They don't intimidate anyone with their style of play. Their defense is not smothering and they have no rim protector to cover mistakes. There is no Mo Ali-Cox waiting in the paint. There is no Briante Weber or Jaquan Lewis suffocating opposing point guards. There is no Melvin Johnson raining 3s. Outside of Tillman, their offense is suspect.
VCU 2018 is very pedestrian.

If we win one, I would be happy. Based on our year, I am not confident of a strong run in the A10 tournament but I am hopeful.
We have to win the A10 tournament to get into the big one. If we lost in the final we should get into the NIT. UD draws well and our fans show up and would be a bonus for the NIT.
But if we lost to Rhode Island in final, that would probably knock out St. Bonaventure and \ or Davidson and make the A10 a one bid league.

Hopefully, with the play of Kostas the past few games, JC can play more aggressive defensively to at least contend more of Tillman's and others shots....

If we lose in the A-10 finals we will be only 17-17. That probably wouldn't get us into the NIT. Even if we got in we would be a 7 or 8 seed and wouldn't have a home game. Not sure how many fans would travel for an NIT road game.

I wasn't able to watch the game. Sounds like GW scored three quarters of their points in these 3 runs.

Impossible to play URI in the final. URI awaits the winner of the UD/VCU game

haven't looked at the draw. Unless we play URI in game 2, we can win 2 games.... possibly lucky for a third. Very lucky.

Regarding the NIT, It won’t matter unless we play later in the week, whether we got a home game or not. Especially with the regular tournament going on, they try to pack all of those games in early on in the week. We host the first four. That means Dayton has an away game regardless of whether we have a fourth or higher seed.

This has been stated several times before, but there was a report a couple years ago of an agreement with the NCAA (which now runs the NIT) that UD could play an NIT home game on Thursday.

And I think there is something absolutely beautiful about that. There is no fallback plan for extra development/playing time this season.

What is ACTUALLY amazing about this team, is that we are getting majorly outrebounded, very often have more turnovers.
The shooting rates of JC and Landers are keeping us in games. Our fairly high assist rate (most games)
