Weather Issues
Not sure when UD is due to fly to NYC for the Fordham game on Sunday, but getting there might be rather dicey considering the storm that is supposed to hit the east coast.
I'd take bets that even if the game goes on and the weather is horrible, UD will still have more fans there than Fordham does.

Larry H indicated on WHIO this morning that the weather is "impacting the Flyer's travel plans"....seemed to imply that they may be leaving as early as today.

I could see it making sense to leave tonight as opposed to tomorrow morning.

Blizzard Watch for NYC Saturday and Sunday. Foot of snow and 50 mph winds possible. Praying for a safe trip for all who are going.

Gettiing there is only half the issue, once there getting out will be major issue for men and women teams as the ladies will be a short few miles from NYC and in the path of the storm as well, hopefully not as bad as NYC.

Not sure if the team is staying in The Bronx or somewhere else in the city, however if the Metro North trains aren't shutdown due to the Nor'easter (which has happended during other major storms) they can arrive at the gym via train as there is a stop right next to the university.

Weather should not be as much of a problem as you think as the snow will not begin until Saturday and will end Sunday morning. Can leave tomorrow and will be fine getting in.

They should be fine as long as they land in NY by Friday evening. snow is suppose to start later Friday night and go untul Sunday morning and it will be windy. Subway gets them less than a half mile from the Gym.

I've always been fascinated with the logistics of moving sports teams to their away games. May I request that UDPRIDE do an interview of whomever makes those arrangements for the FLYERS? Interview questions might include: chronology of when the team travels, how do they travel (bus or plane), unusual player events like who forgot what, where and how often do players eat, stories involving how other teams accommodate the flyers on the road, which venues are the best to travel to, which venues are the worst, who travels with the team (parents, siblings, media, celebrities?), and of course the questions can be reversed to ask how staff accommodates team's visiting Dayton for a game.
Of course, I fully understand that current travel plans for this year cannot be revealed as you would not want to give opposing university students any opportinity for pranks. But, I am sure that there are still stories of pranks from the past that could be shared.

How many people were at the Fordham game (I'm guessing around 1998 give or take) during the level 3 ice emergency? I think there were about 4,000 fans, give or take, basically turned the arena into "pick an empty seat" night as there were too few to think that anyone was going to fight over a prime seat. Definently a weird vibe to a game played with so few fans in a place that big, I can only guess it felt like when Seton Hall, Georgetown, St Johns, etc... play in their large NBA arenas during family and friends night.

Attended the Flyers/Akron game a few years back where Dayton got a ton of snow and maybe 4-5000 showed up, only time I watched a game from the 100's.

3-8-08 St Joseph's was Senior Night for Brian Roberts, Jimmie Binnie, and Andres Sandoval. That was a Level 3 and a pick your seat night. It always stuck in my mind because those players didn't get the celebration they should have. Had my camera and got some very good pictures.

Actually it is the Duq-GMU game that will be moved to the new location. GW still playing at Smith Center.
From A10 press release...
"The Duquesne-George Mason men’s game will now be played Friday at 2:00 pm ET. The location of this game has also changed to the RAC (Recreation and Athletic Complex), the Patriots’ auxiliary on-campus facility.
Rhode Island- George Washington men’s game will now tip at 3:00 pm ET Friday in at the Charles E. Smith Center as announced Friday morning by GW."
The RAC looks like it is basically the RexPlex with a 1500 seat gym. Should be an interesting atmosphere.
Side note to these schedule changes is that it looks like we will now have at least one A10 game played for each of the next 10 days.

Video link to the GMU- Duq game being played in 1500 seat "arena". It is worth it just to look at the floor. Not only does it look like a mid-sized HS gym but the gym is usually used for volleyball so it is a two-colored court where volleyball court ends. Plus it has volleyball lines plus has 3 point lines for side courts plus some other lines that I am not even sure what they are for.

A10 embarrassment. This game could have been rescheduled. Teams might have had to play on back-to-back nights...but it could've been done. Yeah, I want to pay double seat license, then watch the Flyers play road games in HS gyms and in front of 1200 people.

Your seat license money doesn't go to any other schools or their facilities. Also UD is not playing in this game. What is embarrassing about putting the players' safety and well-being in front of your desire to see them play in a bigger arena? Very strange complaint.

What does a UD seat license have to do with a game between the Dukes and GM played in a small gym?

Calling it just a high school gym might be generous. That gym was smaller than my high school gym and I did not even go to a large high school. My graduating class had only 300 people.

Larry was interviewed live by phone on WHIO noon news. He said that he expects the game to go as scheduled because the snow is expected to stop around midnight, Westchester where they are staying is "only" expecting 12" and the Bronx is not supposed to be as hard hit as other areas of NY. Since the game is at 4pm, roads expected to be cleared in time. They also expect to depart as scheduled Sun evening.

Snow removal crews are well equipped and very efficient in most parts of the North. Down South, where I live, 2 inches of snow means school closure, extended weather coverage and hoarding.

Of course, I fully understand that current travel plans for this year cannot be revealed as you would not want to give opposing university students any opportinity for pranks. But, I am sure that there are still stories of pranks from the past that could be shared.

My friends mom was one of the people in charge of the moving logistics for the Colts and it sounded like a headache to me. However, the year they won the Super Bowl she got a ring and Im sure she is paid well based off their lifestyle.

I work in the Bronx and the snow is way worse than predicted. 16 inches or so right now...expected to be 22+ by the end of it. my concern isnt the teams getting there, its if they can clean it up in time for people to come. Mr. Blas loves shutting down public transportation or having it limited in emergencies.

Does not look good. Mayor just shut down the city. Of course it is a Jesuit school so they can do what they want.

I'm in White Plains right now 4:00PM, and it is still snowing. I have about 12 inches now. DPW crews here are very well trained and equipped, so the game should be fine. But Metro-North will be up and running in the am so I am taking the train to Fordham.

That sucks. I feel for them. I just saw that our boy, Brian Gregory lost another close game at the end of it. Down two after just losing Marcus Georges-Hunt to fouls, the old weave offense got a guard tangled up in the lower circle , which led to a turnover.

Their last two offensive possessions were a total mess. No one knew what they were running and no one moved and no one wanted to lead.
