I'm sure they left it there for high school games and possibly women's games.

Wow, London came out hot, and then Lowery came out hot. It all looks good so far, the defense looks sharp but now we have offense.

It's only Capital ... but I think we've got the interchangable pieces finally. We're not missing a beat on defense and quickness up and down the floor. Lowery shot that 3ball from deeeeeep.

Couldn't go at the last minute, so you'll have to put up with me.
I know it's D-III talent, but this team is fast. I really like the pace they're playing at, although I do hope we slow it down after half and work more half court sets.

Looks like we want to play a little run and jump in the back court. Personally, I really like the idea.

It's been along time since:
We've seen this much talent on one team at UD.
This much speed and hops on one team.
It's really awesome.

Don't mind the aggresive defensive fouls ... I like to see it actually. We can push the ball. I've noticed they're even pushing it after made shots. I'm getting confused between the dreadlock brothers. They play a similar style. Lowery kind of seems like he's got a bit more body control .... but LW is doing just fine. We are going to out rebound a lot of teams this year.

LW
Pretty solid 1st half for LW. 4-6 shooting and 9 points. By my count, I only saw one forced shot and one TO. It's almost like he's been reading these message boards since the red/blue game.

Instructions? Que?
They look good, but it's easy to look good against lesser competition. Biggest thing is that we look awfully quick from top to bottom. I think we're going to be a great defensive, and rebounding team.

Think need to keep their heads up and focused little better. I know its different me sitting here and them in the game trying to see everything but a couple of passes that were TO could easily have been turned into assist had the person on the receiving end been paying more attention.
and i was very suprised lw taking first 2 of 3 shots for ud. thought he may have 2 shots the whole game. and searcy looks a lot better now, glad to see we have options at C even though i like huelsman

With so much substitution it is hard to get any continuity. LW and RL both have 2 fouls.....not good. Would like to see a little more patience on O. 52 pts. at the half....how many in transition?

a lot to like
Here's my biggies:
Point guards= 8 assists and 4 to's= 2.0 A/TO ratio (and they looked pretty good).
We have shooters with some good looking strokes (Mickey,Lowery,Chris J)
Searcy was impressive as well as Huelsman.
Dayton looked down court and not afraid to throw the long pass, but not frantic (with a couple of exceptions).
I don't see any reason to panic at the 1 or the 5.
Free throws 9/11 with Marcus missing both of those.
Little and Wright with monster dunks --ho hum.

Damon was solid in my mind. not exciting, but knew how to move the ball, catch, set, all the fundamentals.
great foul shooter, and def. hit some key winning shots

Not sure chicago. It should be the gametracker link.
LW has to take and make that shot rather than dribbling that and throwing it out. Make them respect the shot and then you can dribble and penetrate much easier

BG should show that marcus johnson play over and over and over and over to LW. Fabrizius was squared up and ready to get the pass and nailed it. Marcus didn't force it and found the open man

Can someone please tell Bucky and Larry that their mikes are not turning off - ever. It would be funny if it was espn, but I like these guys too much to have them say something we don't need to hear.

The guy who shoots from more than 6 feet out is not LW. I actually thought LW hit a three, and then I realized it wasnt him.

I think CJ is 4.
Things got stagnant out there all the sudden? Defense is even slow all the sudden.

Looking better on D. Is Fabrizius going to be our medicine on offense when we struggle? That was a nice shot.

He has a perfect shot. And I like the fact that he pulled from NBA range earlier - shows he knows he can shoot.

Capital to line 29 times...

Lost some focus for a bit ... kind of going in spurts in the second half.
Fab man stroked another one ... that is a smooth shot.

This is the first year that I think we are not hallucinating and we really do have depth at every position.
This team is deep, can push the ball, shoot, defend.
And the camaraderie reminds me of the chemistry of last years UD gals team. These guys really like to play together.

Go to the front page of the men's basketball forum http://www.udpride.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3
Look for the red bar that runs the length of the page and look for FAQ (towards the left side of the page)

...and here is even more exciting news...
Adreian Payne sighting at the game as well. He was sitting with Juwan Staten with Matt Kavanaugh in the next row near the student section. Seemed to be having a great time. A very very good sign.

Just back from the game, ands it was entertaining. I really didn't come away suprised by much. It was generally what I expected. The foul shooting was encouraging. The guard play was fairly good. Lowery hit some nice 3 pointers. Searcy played better than I expected. Fabrizius gets a shot off so quick. I decided that I would like Paul Williams shooting free throws as much as possible this year. He looks at ease there, and has the best touch on the team, IMO. We almost don't have a second string. The talent is fairly even across the board. I thought we were tired half way through the second half. Our ball pressure on defense was ok, but I think we could cause more havoc once we get the hang of it.

We can shoot.
Fabreezus will play this year and score.
I know it is an exhibition but ... guard play ... 28 pts, 12 assists ... Low 3-3 from Three.

Just got home myself and I agree with everything said here. The name left off here that I was most impressed with was Chris Johnson. Brought lots of energy, got up high to go for the boards, and showed good awareness around the basket. It was only Capital, but this team could go with so many different options of personal on the court at one time. I can forgive any laziness tonight as we jumped on them big time early (as we should have). Loved the way we ran the court in transition to lead to a few lob passes to Searcy and Little underneath the basket.

Just got back from the game not to long ago....nice crowd....we are so athletic it's not even funny...Lowery really impressed me as did Searcy. Great follow up dunk from CW. We looked good tonight. We subbed alot so it was hard to see alot of consistensy, but everyone really played well together.
The thing I noticed the most was the defense, man we were smothering!

I am still digesting the whole thing and have to take it with a grain of salt since they were against a Div 3 school. Capital did play tough, they were just plain outmatched on the inside. They played feisty and were not afraid to get physical and I was a little worried about London and Kurt, but hey, they have to take that during regular play.
The Flyers definitely have some improvement in some areas they can make. There was a few bad passes and a few plays that caught someone off guard so we didn't look well oiled at times and started to lose concentration at the beginning of the second half. I suspect this team will gel more and more on offense as the season progresses and won't miss some of the opportunities they did tonight. I really like the fact that they were pulling down defensive boards and then scoring about 5 seconds later with the long passes.
The defense was smothering and everyone played with intensity and I did not notice any players that were not giving it out.
Overall, there were not any players on the court that I can say were behind, everyone had something to offer on offense. I think anyone on this team can have a big night. My big surprise was Fab, I thought he played well on defense and was able to get his shots in. He will be getting some playing time this year. Can't wait to see a little more of Williams.

Take on everyone
London - Great energy. He definitely was looking to push. Besides a couple bad passes I was very impressed about how much he has improved offensively. Not necessarily from a shooting stand point, but from a presence standpoint.
Lowery - Really was stroking the 3's tonight, I will take that all day. A couple of dumb fouls, but just like London he brings some energy to the court. very quick
Thomas - I feel like Thomas is the guy that doesn't have the most talent, but he makes it up with his hard work and hustle. His 3 pointer he took looked Extremely good, very good form. He definitely isn't the fastest defender so he needs to give the best effort to keep up with some of the faster guards.
Huelsman - Showed a lot more quickness around the hoop (the lost weight really shows). His hooks were dead on, and I feel he will be much more active trying to get open in the post this year. He really needs to back his defenders down.
Searcy - What a BEASTLY performance. That reverse dunk was powerful. The difference that I saw from this year to last year was that he was way more involved. Last year he seemed to stand around and didn't command the ball, but this year he is trying to score and trying to defend.
Marcus - Didn't really show much tonight besides some pretty good defense and rebounding. I was not worried about seeing anything from tonight, because he will definitely be solid throughout the year.
Chris Wright - I got so frustrated when he had that great first step but then completely botched the layup. He needs to finish. A couple of times the ball flew out on dunk attempts, but besides that he has all the physical abilities. Pretty good game today that could have been better.
Little - Nothing really to comment on Charles. He came down low to get some nice finishes, but I feel like he needs to be constantly reminded to Hustle! Monster Dunk, I love the dunking ability on this team. Definitely not my favorite flyer, I want him to prove me wrong.
Perry - My favorite flyer, followed him all the way from his first year at Wisconsin. Obviously from the red and blue game and practices we know Mickey can hit a 3, I just feel like he hasn't shown it in a game. He needs to be more active in the offense instead of standing on the wing waiting for a 3 point shot. He did a better job of that tonight, but he still needs to attack. His defense has seemed to improve a ton from last year.
Williams- With only coming in the game twice, it was hard to gauge him. His length was apparent on defense, and his free throws were spot on. His length on defense should really help, and I hope he can come in and hit some 3s.
Luke - First time seeing him in action, and all the reviews were right...HE has a stroke. He was putting that ball in the basket so smooth. Really great to watch. needs to be quicker on defense if he wants serious PT. to much of a body down low.
Chris Johnson - Very impressed with him as well. He seems to have a nose for the ball and is a very very good athlete. I like his all around game, and would have liked to see what his 3 looks like(I missed his one attempt). I like his ability though.

I love the pace, but don't really think we should ever slow down...
IMO, our team is very deep, fast and athletic... To me, what this means is that we should RUN RUN RUN and PUSH PUSH PUSH... not only will this get us a lot of easy fast break points, but this makes the other team have to keep up with us and run them up and down the court and in effect tire them out and make their legs all wobbly.... I'm not sure very many of the teams we play will have the same depth AND speed we do. We can sub a lot, have fresh players while starters are resting, and we can keep running without a of loss in velocity or talent... I just don't see a lot of other teams being able to keep up... I think we should try to push the tempo on O as much as possible...
I think this may be (roughly) what BG has in mind...
IMO last year a lot of teams that were not as deep as us got worn down by our running- we sub’d a lot and seemed to always have a lot of fresh legs… This year I think we have even more depth and less fall off from starters to bench.
My prediction for this season is that we will be a second half team and pull away from a lot of teams late due to wearing them down… dare i say we will have no OT loss on the season??? My theory is the longer the game, the better our chances...

No traffic jam!! I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the traffic was flowing. Got there about 7:20 and didn't hardly have to hit the brakes.

Saw a lot of good things last night and I am excited to see this team against some DI talent. P. Williams has a funky little hitch in his shot, took one three from the corner and missed badly.

Going to be a good year....
Very impressed with progress every single person on the team appears to have made.
A few comments about my most vivid observations/opinions....
Chris Johnson - Lively, nose for the ball, scrapper. Will do very well in every game, but could be a different approach, style in every game. Seems to be the guy who will find a way to help the team, whatever that may be. BUT, has some growing to do on perimeter defense. Seemed to be good at ball hawking, but got lost or hung up on too many screens.
Lowery - Will be great compliment to offense - agressive, but patient. Will be interesting to watch his agressiveness and willingness to shoot against better defense. Defense was slightly disappointing. He seems to have the speed and nose for the ball, but I don't recall a single deflection or steal. Hopefully this is just catching up to D1 speed. Could be a gem if the defense comes around.
Paul Williams will be a great compliment to MJ for his perimeter defense. He got through every pick and was in near perfect position to help out while maintaining his defensive assignment. He will be a special defensive player. However, he looked well less than 100% to me. Not sure if it was conditioning, nerves, or what. Just looked slightly less athletic or agressive than expected.
I only have two concerns for future base on what I saw ....
1) Defensive rebounds - more atheletic, but less physical. It worked against smaller Capital, but I think we could struggle with some thicker post players.
2) Fouls - too much hands and reaching as well as poor recovery/spacing. Would expect to get better as the year progresses, but wow. Agressive perimeter teams will be at the free throw line all day long against us.
Overall well within the scope of learning experience, but must get better.
You can see the possiblities. Now the daily improvement needs to continue to reap the benefits.
If progress is quick, this could be a VERY special year.

I enjoyed what I saw. Still need to work on some inbounding help at times though.
London and Lowery played very well, but both made the same types of mistakes. (bad fouls, bad passes) London tried to hit Mickey (?) on the left wing, and Mickey was in his own world, rather than possibly catch the ball, and come around underneath to the basket for a quick two.
I truly believe Huelsman's days as a starter are coming to an end. I think Searcy will take the starting job soon. Dude's got like a 6 foot stride, takes him 6 steps to go endline to endline.
I think we also have a backup PG in Little. Why does BG put Little at the top of the key with the other point guard so that he can make plays. He only had 2 assists, but he seemed to be directing the floor a bit more. I enjoyed seeing that, though, because it showed that he is being the senior leader on the team, where I didn't think that was going on at the scrimmage. Then in other areas, he puts CL in at the 5 spot.
I really wish I could have had a sound amplifier thingy, where I can point it to the huddle and hear what was being said, because that timeout 16 seconds into the second half really would have been fun to listen to. BG was hot and so was one of the assistants. Looked like a no holds barred, what in the world do you think you're doing, did you not hear the play I called drilling.
I'm still interested to see if Wright can find his spot. I almost wonder if Wright is going to get too container, like BRob last year, and not get the points he deserves. But, his energy shows all the time on the court. He grabbed an offensive board, puts it up, careems off the rim, and he's diving on the floor with the opponent to get it, and then while laying on his butt, throws it towards center court for a pass, but it got interecepted. I've always appreciated his hustle.
Listened to the postgame, and people mentioned in the thread that it was hard to see what was going on with everyone substituting in, BG's plan was for everyone to get 15-20 minutes, so it worked out the way they wanted. And, they were only giving Paul 6 minutes each half since he hasn't practiced much lately.
Let's see what happens with Gannon, and maybe things will look a bit clearly for a regular game play type atmosphere.
