Poor shooting...again
There seems to be a trend in high school and college to mistake "great defensive teams" with a recent trend with teams shooting poorly. I see it in high school basketball locally and I have seen it through college basketball - especially Dayton basketball. Miami, as well as the other teams we have played, are not that great at defense, we are just a poor shooting team that will sooner or later lose some important games because of the poor shooting.

Everytime Bramos shoots I cringe---Dierkers hasn't taken a 3 point shot all year and he hits 2--Bramos could be shooting it backwards and make it with UD luck

Shooting percentage....
Even though we should pull this game out....32% from the field and 19% from 3 point land. Just not going to do it in A-10 play. For the season (not counting today) 41% (field) and 30% (3 pt). Honestly, I coached 4th-5th and 6th graders for years and expected bettrer shooting percentages. It is a shame when we are happy to get another offensive rebound because we missed another shot and get to reset the shot clock. It would be better to make the basket and go back on defense.....

Great pass by Chris Johnson to marcus for a layup. Then we give up a layup in three seconds. Marcus finally at the line, hit the first one up by four
Time out, UD has two fouls to waste

57% free throw shooter hits 2, someone who hasn't taken a 3 point shot this year makes 2. People bring their A game against UD.

Nice win...
How do you spell another Dayton win - U-G-L-Y !!!!!
The wins are sweet, but we MUST improve on shooting or we are looking at another 8-8 A-10 conference season and NIT.

Our starters were 15 for 33 (45%) and our bench 2 for 20 (10%). Some of those 7 need to shoot less, especially from 3 point range.

I've said it before on this message board, but if you want to root for a team that scores 90 pts/game and blows out most of their opponents, enjoy rooting for UNC. If you want to root for a team that plays some of the best defense in the country and plays their a** off every night, enjoy the ride with UD this year.
Heck of a job by MJ (and others) on Bramos...3-12 and only 6 pts.

We are exactly where we were last year at this time, 14-1. Except last year we had wins over Pitt and L'ville and were ranked 14. Now we have conference play to go and control our own destiny. The next two months should be VERY interesting. We can't put a pea in an ocean but we are "there" when it counts!

In the history of college basketball, has a 6'11" player ever played 25 minutes in a game and fail to record a rebound? Are the gametracker stats off? I'll be excited to see Figgie's stats this week, for sure.

I took two things from this game.
1.) Chris Wright, although he DID come up w/ some huge baskets down the stretch....is a turnover waiting to happen in the capacity that he is used right now. We have to figure out a way to get him the ball on the block more. He SHOULD be a mismatch for basically whomever is guarding him. If there is a big slow guy guarding him..put him at the high post and let him take him off the dribble. If they try to put a quicker not so big guy on him...put him in the post. Like I said before...I get NERVOUS when he gets the ball out by the 3pt line.
2.) Marcus Johnson is by FAR our best all around player. He was a DEFENSIVE STOPPER tonight. Impressive. Oh, and he managed to score 12 points.

Until UD is able to hit their outside shots consistently, there will never be enough room down low for Wright to go one on one. As soon as he gets the ball down low, any team will double him--so he passes it back out and then they'll dare any UD player te beat them from the outside.

Boy, I will sure as heck agree with that second point. I love the guy. He is just so dang solid, I love it.
As far as your first point, that is true - I mean 5 turnovers for him is far too many - but it's hard for me to be too upset with him after the close to that game. I'll revisit that point a little later.
I did love that the three guys that stepped up at the end of the game were: Marcus, Chris Wright, and Charles Little - our three guys that are SUPPOSED to do it. Probably our three most talented players, and the three that can take us where we want to go. Charles had two HUGE buckets, with the follow up and then the running floater. Those were HUGE. And then Wright took was so strong down the stretch.
Terrible shooting, but man it feels good to win a game like that. Certainly could have lost that one.

Must've been 3 HUGE rebounds that key'ed the victory....plus CL's put back and CW's 3.

I am so glad that I do not post here during games.

I always meant to quote 455's game thread crash and burn act in the same manner, but I couldn't muster enough caring to do it. Success is killing him slowly. KY made the post of the year, as far as I am concerned.

I like UD's position much better than Miami's.

Miami and Temple both have pretty guady SOS''s for the ooc.
Miami's RPI is 12 but what does it buy you if your W/L is 7-5?
It's been beaten to death that our schedule needs some more beef, but if the won/loss record doesn't measure up to the schedule bravado, it doesn't help one bit getting into the NCAA's.
Trying to manuever into the Dance on the basis of a tough ooc producing a high RPI and SOS is fools gold without the wins to match it. The Game is in the Conference W/L and year ending Tournament.
