UMass Wiggins suspended

Looks like UMass may have picked up a trouble maker from UConn. Wiggins is not eligible at the moment, but I assume he will be in January.

He has to sit out the whole season anyways. He transferred this summer so he is not eligible until the start of the 2009-2010 season.

Trouble

Wiggens, nice kid, always in trouble from the time he arrived at UConn. Doesn't seem to recognize the difference between right and wrong. UMass offered a second good chance. He's well on the way to blowing it. Sad!

He had to sit out the year anyway but he could practice with the team. If he is suspended, I assume he can't even practice so that will set him back some.

Is that an oxymoron?

Explanation...

longtimer,...what I meant by "nice kid, always in trouble" was this. Some kids look, act and sound like thugs, hoodlums. Just looking at them you know they are going to be a handful.

Wiggins is not like that. He is a nice looking, clean cut kid, relatively well spoken,... certainly gives no indication of future problems. And, the kind of throuble he found himself in at UConn was with the basketball program, not the law. At UC Jim Calhoun is the boss, everything is his way or the highway. Indeed, I suspect that is typical of most programs. Wiggins was always in trouble with Calhoun, not with the law. A coach will put up with just a certain amount of that before he comes to the conclusion that the guy is not worth the trouble (unless the guy is pouring in 30 pts a game). And Wiggins did have one close call with the law.

A mutual decision was made that perhaps he would be a better fit elsewhere, e.g. UMass. That was a good choice, in my opinion. UMass is close to Wiggins home; and there is no doubt he could be a starter on an A10 team. Yet, he blew it. This time his problems did involved illegal activity. UMass wants to nip this in the bud, knowing his prior history.

Hopefully, Wiggins will come to appreciate the opportunity he is wasting. But, the signs so far are not good.
