Murray State Game Thread
All I have to say is... shake off the tough loss last night and come up and play a good 40 min, Saturday afternoon at noon on College Sports Network. All I have to say is if KD can't play, we are in BIG trouble.
Murray State Potential Starting Lineup:
G 3 Isaiah Canaan 6’1” 195 SR Biloxi, Mississippi
G 23 Dexter Fields 6’2” 190 JR Orlando, Florida
F 1 Stacy Wilson 6’3” 201 SR Mullins, South Carolina
F 2 Ed Daniel 6’7” 228 SR Birmingham, Alabama
F 13 Brandon Garrett 6’9” 200 SR Phoenix, Arizona
I will still keep the faith! Would be a heck of win this weekend... Go Flyers!

Very encouraging comments about KD from Arch. Looks like he might give it a go today.

Yes he does. His early season injury really gave us a false picture of his game. He's going to be valuable as the season progresses.

down 5 at half. Doesn't look good. They have a very balanced team, hurting us inside and outside. The only way we win is if Pierre really gets going. I don't think Dillard is 100% but he has eight assists

I really like our point guard, Kevin Dillard, but I must say that without question, Isaiah Canaan is the best point guard that I have seen this year in college basketball. He is the absolute complete package...definitely an All-American.

Agree that Dillard is not 100% and he looks a bit hesitant -- not taking shots and passing off and that is not just because of Canaan guarding him -- but I am glad that he is in there. This should be a good second half. Murray pulled away the last few minutes of the first half. We are taking shots -- 32 to 23 for Murray -- but hitting 41% to Murray's 48%.
Worst fear: Murray's Canaan goes off during the second half. Best situation: Matt gets open and continues hitting.

You don't let him pull up inside 30 feet. You have to pick up Canaan when he crosses midcourt. The fact he can pull up and drain it off a catch or the dribble out to 30 isn't a surprise. It is in the scouting report. Losing him on that us lack of concentration.

i'm starting to wonder how bad KD might be...so much so it might hurt us down the stretch to even have him in. i'd take him out with about 30 sec to go before every TV timeout just to get him extra rest

They need to take layups with the managers knocking their arse on the floor with tackling dummies. They miss layups because they play to avoid contact and put it up moving away from the rim.

assuming derenbecker is out because of poor defense? man he has the hot hand, would love for him to still be in.
think oliver needs to start taking a few dribbles inside the 3 point line then shoot

Wasn't that was a lane violation on Murray State? The shooter was in the lane before the shot hit the rim... easy to tell because the shot never hit the rim.

Kevin showed us a great deal today. Bad back and all, he not only led the team but played an incredible second half and contained Canaan.
Glad he was in there.

Vee Sanford, Kevin Dillard, and Jalen Robinson have had a superb second half at both ends of the court...no doubt the difference is these guys really stepped up in the second half!

Huge win against a very, very good basketball team with some superbly talented players. That is the best defense that Kevin Dillard has played since he has been here!

canaan is a stud...no question about it. quick release, can pull up from anywhere...can do it all.
KD shutting him down most the 2nd half....my goodness.

Dillard had an amazing half. Either the back loosened up or he said the heck with it. Did a great job running the offense and outstanding defense on Canaan. He, Derenbecker and Sanford must have combined for about 55.
One more ride on the roller coaster.

Nice win Flyers. Great game for KD. And thank God Murray State didn't decide to try a zone on us.

Spasms, if KD's are like the ones I've experienced, reduces one to concentrating on breathing duration the typical 4-5 second episode...difficult to say "...the heck with it."

Exactly what I was yelling at the TV. That sequence that put the Flyers up nine was full of those. They need to watch that sequence over and over again. If the guys can put up that kind of effort on D every night good things will happen. It all starts by defending and protecting the defensive glass.

Do you feel just a tiny bit different after their second halves? I think Dillard lost the first half battle, but won the second half battle, and the war.

I didn't get a chance to see the game, and from the comments and box score it looks like a gutsy, great win for the Flyers.
One question I have after looking at the box - what's the deal with Pierre? Zero points, and zero shots. (?)

Dyshawn Pierre just never got into the flow of the game. He had a critical turnover and lost his man on defense a couple of times. Furthermore, Matt D. came in and gave us a real lift - hit some key threes just at the moment when the game could have slipped away from the Flyers. I just think Dyshawn's inexperience with high-quality players surfaces in games like this. Give Murray State credit, they have some really outstanding players with a lot of experience. This experience factor I do believe was haunting Dyshawn.

Two fouls early in the first half didn't help Dyshawn either. Then your sub goes off like a bottle rocket (Matt) and there you are. Like Gola said, never got into the flow.
It's going to happen to someone every game if you look at the lineup. We have 9 guys getting good minutes +Scott. Each night a player will get hot and it will be at the expense of another teammate's minutes. Nothing to worry about.

freshman struggle with consistency. For whatever reason DP never got into the flow of the game. Fortunately Matt D picked up the scoring

I can imagine that the Murray State MB is not happy now with the inconsistency of some of their players. Especially the guys that missed dunks--both of which were totally unnecessary and cost them dearly. One of them triggered a 3pt basket by Dillard at the other end--a 5 point swing.
Now consider that they are 40-4 in their last 44 games, and just got a 16 game road win-streak broken. MB's are tough crowds.
