Apparently in their exhibition game, while beating Missouri S&T 93-64, they turned the ball over 15 times resulting in 21 points. Look for Dayton to look to force turnovers and score in transition.

Dayton's Steve McElvene will most likely start up front next to Kendall Pollard in Friday's opener vs. SEMO, Archie Miller told @CBSSports.

So pumped to get this started. I just went on youtube and re-watched the whole Dayton Stanford game. Now my nerves are all jumpy and the game I've been waiting for for almost 8 months is 96 minutes away. Let's go Flyers!!!

Great to start the season, watch the game, and reconnect on this thread. Particularly today given the situation in Paris. We need to be able to escape from that terrible situation and enjoy our Flyers. Go Flyers!

Watching the stream now and as usual it is lacking.
Sound is scratchy. Picture looks horribly stretched out.
I don't like to complain about free, but there are high schools that do a better job streaming live games than UD/A10/TWC.

Understand, but remember when even getting a consistent feed to WHIO radio to listen to Bucky was a blessing.
Listening to the radio feed while watching the streaming video despite the time lag. At least I can follow the Flyers.

If you have a DVR, listen to WHIO online and then you can pause the TV until Larry and Bucky have caught up then it will be in sync.

It's strange seeing a Flyer wear #4 and it not be Chris Johnson. I'm hoping Cooke can live up to that number. I believe he can.

Crosby raw, but I'm sure he's going to improve fast. Mikesell seems like a very smart player (shades of Jim Paxson?). Big Steve's presence changes everything on D.

Wow, we are so deep. Love how the Freshman and Transfer are playing. We are playing the pack-line defense brilliantly -- team can really go at it knowing they have subs.

Impressed with several things. Mikesell does not play like a freshman and shows confidence. Big Steve changes the dynamic when he is out there. Soochie has matured. A great deal to like.

First impressions---
* we are going to be really deep by end of ooc
* Baby D has improved his handle this year
* lot of work to do on familiarity with half court offense; ball is sticking in hands
passing the ball like Paul Williams instead of like Memphis
* lot of smart ball players with court savvy
* Steve is going to help us on D a lot--soft hands are really evident on offense
* worse thing that could happen is we lose Scoochie by fouls or injury--whatever
* defense will keep us in games when offense is off
* Pierre would shore up a lot on both ends

I need a nap after that first half! They Flyers wore me out along with SEMO. Nothing at all to complain about without picking nits. I was looking for a dropoff once we had 3 Frosh on the floor but it never happened. We played the first half with an attitude consistent with a team fighting for its life in the 2nd half of a tournament game. This is a team on a mission. I can't wait to see how the intensity and conditioning hold up in the 2nd.

I've had high expectations all along for Mr Mikesell, heard some great info from someone who played with him in school. Archie's comments that he would be one of the best flyers ever just added to it. A very complete player who played point guard in high school.
I think Bucky has done a particularly GREAT job tonight giving us info on many of the new players, his comments about Cooke playing too fast and with a lack of confidence have been telling.

Let me get this straight. Mikesell was a 2 star? Just like BRob being a 2 star. These recruiting rankings are a joke.

Wasn't one of the off-season questions how we would replace Sibert's outside shooting? I think we have an answer.

And Mikesell can handle the basketball. I suggested after seeing him in the exhibition game that he was a high-IQ player. The kid just looks smooth to me and he has ice in his veins.

Our top 2 scorers were off the bench. POG = Mikesell?

What is the high for a freshman in his first game. Remember Johnson had like 21 against Creighton?

If I remember correctly Mikesell attended UD's camp and was immediately offered a scholarship
Look at his stat line 21 points on 7 of 9 shooting, 8 rebounds and 4 assists!

On first look, for sure. But two things. Nobody shoots 70%, and he will have to work for open looks against top competition.
But I sure could see him taking the BIG shot like Sibert did.

Funny watching a game where Pollard had very little effect on the game, but his time will come. He did get 10 defensive rebounds.

They killed us on the offensive boards. Got a lot of hustle rebounds and we did not block out.

I believe what Archie said was that Mikesell would likely go down as an all-time crowd favorite. Which suggests he would be pretty good, but I was operating more on the idea he was going to be beloved for his scrappiness and hustle. And that may be, but he showed a lot more than that tonight.

After the IPFW game a couple of years ago I'm happy for an easy opening game.

What ARchie said was a little bit between what each of us said. When he says that someone is going to be one of the all time favorites I didn't interpret that as being a fan favorite, like someone who comes in and plays a few minutes as an inspirational end of the bench guy.
"Ryan Mikesell will be one of the all-time favorites here one day," Miller predicted. "He plays a style that everyone relates to – he is very unselfish and makes his teammates better. He's 6-7 and his range on his shot is getting deeper, which is so key to be able to stretch floor. He is a high IQ player and his versatility will add to our depth at more than one position. Our strength program is going to be a huge benefit for him early on, and once his strength catches up to his skill level and basketball mindset, the sky is the limit."
One thing that should be mentioned is that D Davis also had a tremendous game tonight.

Since the 00-01 season, I have Marcus Johnson scoring 23 points against Austin Peay as the highest. Chris Wright had 22 against E. Tenn St., then Mikesell tonight with 21.

It may have come after 3 or 4 games, but do you recall DP perfect shooting game.
Pretty sure it was his freshman year as well. Wanna say he was 7 for 7 or 9 for 9 for 21 points. Anybody got a moment to look it up?

Of course!
16-nov-2015 against Boston College, he scored 23 points in his "perfect shooting game". 8-8FG, 5-5 3pt, 2-2 FTs. (Sanford had a 23 points against Fordham in his "perfect shooting game". 9-9, 3-3, 2-2.)
That's the most in a "perfect shooting game" since the 00-01 season.
Figgie
