2017 Summer League
I thought it would make sense to create a separate thread to discuss the 2017 NBA Summer League. Figured this would be a good place to posts stats and such.
From what I have seen there will be three Flyers playing this year (correct me if I missed someone).
Cooke is with the Wolves
Scoochie is with the Celtics
Chris Johnson is with the Rockets.

I was wondering about Brian Roberts. Found this nugget of information:

Brob getting to play for Panathinaikos would be fun. Their fans(and Greek basketball fans in general) are a little crazy and the games seem more like soccer games. Plus they are traditionally really good and got to the Euroleague quarters last year which is an improvement for them over the last few years. Their most recent Euroleague title was 2010-11. I guess it comes down to how much they're willing to pay and if Brob wants to get real playing time again.

Interesting note on the T-Wolves Summer League roster:
The 7 guys listed so far - none of them are a threat to Cooke's playing time.
Players 6'1" or shorter:
Deonte Burton
Jack Gibbs (will be interesting to see him and Cooke play together)
Players 6'2" - 6'7"
Charles Cooke
Players 6'8" and taller
V.J Beachum
Perry Ellis
Amile Jefferson
Justin Patton
I'm sure they will add some wing players to this roster, but they probably won't be "big" names. Even more interesting when you consider they only have 2 wing players on the NBA roster right now.
He should get plenty of chances to make his case. What he does with that opportunity remains to be seen...

Don't we have enough players in Europe now to field our own Dayton Flyers against the rest of the non-US world?

Chris Johnson - Played 28 minutes (most on the team) for the Pacers today. 9 points and 12 rebounds. Struggled from outside (1 of 5).

Chris Johnson - Once again led the team in minutes (29). 12 points on 5-11 shooting. 1-6 from 3. A couple of them were pretty ugly. Added 5 rebounds. Announcers gave him props for his movement off the ball that led to some easy points. Pacers play again tomorrow.
As C-Time mentioned - Scooch was a DNP. Not surprising, but still disappointing. Boston is not a good situation for him.

Too bad for Scooch. Agree Boston is not a good situation for him and wonder who was advising him when he signed on. Of course, maybe it was the only team that offered. Hope he gets a shot to show himself off - even if he ends up in Europe. He deserves it.

I emailed Steve Bulpett, the UD grad who is the beat writer on the Celtics for The Boston Herald about Scooch. Unfortunately, he said "Scooch is a summer league body to the Celts" so don't get you hopes up.
Still, it's a great experience for Scooch.

CJ was a DNP for the Pacers yesterday after leading them in minutes through 3 games. Didn't watch the game. For all I know he already left town to join the Rockets.

Scooch getting some burn now for the Celts. He helped start a turnover that led to a hoop. And hits Tatum with a beautiful pass for the slam .

Fox45 News at 10 last night showed a great package of Scooch's highlights from the game. Scooch was in some of ESPN's Sportscenter clips which focused on Jayson Tatum. ESPN package started with Scooch and Tatum chatting during a break in the action and it appeared Scooch was giving the young fella some guidance like a true point guard should. As previously stated it's doubtful Scooch will make the Celtics roster, but if he stays focused and continues to take advantage of his opportunities he'll catch someone's eye.

Sound like he is taking advantage of the situation. Knew he would. Show some ability and maybe the Celtics would have to do some thing with him - protect him some way - hide him on a development team - trade him to a team that can use him. I really do not follow pro basketball except for our UD alums so I am glad for UD Pride.

CJ put together a solid game last night. 12 points and 8 boards. He started off hot - scoring 7 of Rockets first 14 points capped with a steal and a dunk.
The rest of the game was less efficient on the offensive side. Other than a breakdown or two he played some solid D.
All 3 guys play tonight.

It's all Lavar Ball's fault. He really deserves a kickback from the NBA.
I can't wait for real NBA players to teach Lonzo Ball a lesson in the regular season. Maybe that will shut Lavar up.

No burn for Scoochie tonight but the Celts beat Lonzo Ball and the Lakers.
I was more impressed with Kyle Kuzma for the Lakers. Jayson Tatum had an outstanding game for the Cs.

Way to go Chris. Filling up the stat sheet is the best way to get the club's attention. He did it with Jarrod Uthoff sitting on the bench the whole game. I get they play different positions, but Chris played so well they couldn't sit him down.
Great performance. Chris has learned you have to take your shots and trust your game if you are going to make a final roster.
I still chuckle at the post that said the Celtics should "hide" Scoochie and not show him off for fear he will be "discovered". The NBA doesn't hide an undrafted rookie. They need playing time and when they get it they have to light up the board without fear of failure.

Bracket is out for the Summer League Tournament.
CJ and the Rockets are the #10 seed and play the Nuggets today at 4:30pm EST.
Cooke and the Wolves are the #11 seed and get a rematch from last night with the Warriors. That game is at 6:30pm EST.
Winner of Wolves/Warriors will get Scoochie and the Celtics tomorrow.

I watched most of his time in the game. He did pretty well in his limited minutes. Looked very capable running the offense. Got to the basket on a drive, but didn't finish. Missed an open corner 3.
The game was very close in the final minutes and they were subbing him in and out. They seemed to want him in there specifically on defensive possessions.
His 1 point came on a free throw for a foul prior to the ball being inbounded (only get 1 shot for that). Of course they didn't actually show his free throw on TV...

CJ's stat line for Houston in 87-81 loss to Denver: 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting (including 2-3 from 3-pt), along with 7 rebounds. and 2 steals. Played 30 minutes and tied for team high in points.

"Charles Cooke, guard: A four-year college player who shot nearly 40 percent from three-point range in his final two years at Dayton after transferring from James Madison. He made the game-tying shot late in regulation Tuesday and made me hit rewind on the DVR of a summer league game multiple times with his strong defense. He’s a big, athletic wing who can guard people. Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden — who were in attendance Tuesday — might agree those are good assets for a player to have."

Chris Johnson and Charles Cooke are both playing right now. Looks like both of them started.

Timberwolves have 4 roster spots open. They have hinted at the possibility of only filling 3 to give themselves flexibility. Because of their cap situation (they have used up all cap space and their Mid-Level Exception) they will need to fill the remaining spots at the league minimum.
They also only have 1 wing player (Jamal Crawford) on the bench behind Butler/Wiggins. They need more depth there. Local paper mentioned they need a wing who can be a "3 and D" guy for the league minimum. Cooke could be that guy...or at least as good as any other league minimum guy.

I watched the Celtics \ Scoochie play last night He always brought the ball up as the point guard and moved the ball around. After giving up the ball, he created good movement on offense. He looked comfortable on offense but seemed to lose or always be trying to catch up to his defensive assignment.

Are you surprised he got lost defensively? I'm not. I'm still upset he got completely lost on Wichita's 2 biggest baskets in the 2nd half.

Just curious, but did you guys know Lonzo Ball is playing in the summer league? It's difficult to find news about him playing, but he is. True story.

"Cooke was a guy who looked completely natural for the Wolves and didn’t force anything, something that’s quite common for a bunch of players trying to prove their worth."
I think this is a very positive step for Charles, as I thought he forced a lot of poor shots down the stretch this year. It may be possible that Archie was encouraging Charles to take charge offensively, thinking that was our best offensive option. Regardless, this is really good news for Charles and for Flyer fans who want to see players excel at the next level.
