I didn't watch it closely in the first half but it might have had to do with PFW scoring 47 points in the first half--many by 3 pt. shots. Perhaps the coaching staff noticed Toppin wasn't closing out on shooters well enough. Only a guess.
Instead of always looking for a negative, I'd rather we focus on the game played by Matos. Great defense and some excellent passes!
The bench on this team is way better than last years bench.

I don't think it was a demotion...I think it was a better matchup situation.
Maybe we don't need two rim rockers on the floor at the same time.

He was not closing out on the bigs who were shooting threes with effectiveness.
You have to play both ends of the court.

He's learning along with others. Turnovers were ridiculous, yes you can drive thru four players but you might not have the ball at the end. Hint to Trey, Cohill and others.
We had better athletes and strength but they schooled us with their passing and 3 point shooting. This game will be great teaching moments for the coaches. Hopefully they can figure out how to guard 3 point shooters.
Josh was the man, with him in it made the difference and OBI has to learn his position when Josh is in the game.
I really like OBI but there is more than Tomahawk dunks.
I looked at their stats before the game and said to my wife "oh ****". There passing was fantastic. Good game to have before Butler.

True enough; but based on the logic of being beat on threes, most of the team would have been ridding the bench.
Situational yes, but realistically it was the presence of a substantially better opponent that gave OBI fits. He is still learning, and needs to get stronger and more game experience.

"Matos delivered his best performance so far as a Flyer. He scored seven points, doubling his season total, and added four assists and two steals in 28 minutes. Grant also praised his defensive performance. That was the reason he started the second half instead of Toppin."
“He did a good job of keeping the ball in front of him,” Grant said. “He did a good job of being physical without fouling. He was able to get his hands on some balls and create some opportunities for us. Defensively, he gave us a big-time lift.”

Kudos to the staff for not being married to Plan A. It's one of those schools that's a bad matchup for our 2 bigs at the same time. They were really good at a couple of things:
1. Drive and dish, and we were not keeping guys in front of us, and
2. Set plays that require communication and recognition.
Obi was overcommitting on the drive and dish, then out of control on his closeouts. (But so was basically everyone else.) It's just that we needed 1 more guy out there with more defensive savvy because he was creating an extra weak link in the chain.
