Jay Bilas Has UD #33 in His Rankings
33. Dayton Flyers (Previous ranking: 28)
Dayton is balanced and versatile, with three guys -- Dyshawn Pierre, Jordan Sibert and Devin Oliver -- averaging between 11.3 and 12.6 points per game. Dayton has good ability, but its collective toughness is what makes this team one to watch.
I actually think this is spot-on where we should be ranked. BTW, UMass #29, St. Louis #30, VCU #31, GW #58; Baylor #17, Gonzaga #24, Cal #48, Ole Miss #65.

I wonder if Bilas has seen the Flyers since Maui? They played like a very confident, nothing to lose bunch over there. Not as much since then. Still a good team but not the same team as Maui. I hope they can get back to being the Maui team on Saturday.
Go Flyers!

Come on guys stop comparing the flyers to their Maui or first two weeks. They were a virgin team to most opponents then, no one had seen them and didn't know what to expect. Now that there are enough games played opponents know what to expect and plan accordingly.
You can surprise opponents early in the season but once everyone has seen tapes then its a whole different story. Give credit to our guys, they have had to change their play as well since they are not an unknown anymore.
This is why UD does so well in these early tournaments; then reality sits in and we have to play against teams who are prepared, like the A-10 will be harder than the occ as it always is. No surprises when playing the A-10 schedule.

So the Flyers are the only unknown? We know all the other team's tendencies?
May be some of that but I think there is more at work. I think the players are feeling the pressure. The coaching staff has to work that fine line between getting them amped to play but keeping them relaxed.

Doesn't anyone else think we aren't getting enough and enough plays or picks for Sibert. Just as Oliver had 23 or something points the other day, Sibert is clearly capable of some 20 point games, given the right amount of shooting space.
He had it going in some of the Maui games.

They are all capable of amazing things. We've seen the flashes, but now it's crunch time and they really have to step up and consistently perform, not just flash.

Conspicuously absent from his Top-68: Xavier.
Not sure I agree w/Bilas on that.

I agree that Bilas has us clumped together in the right pack of runners. And not a bad thing to look up every now and then to see where you are in the race...but not for too long.
Take a quick look and then head back down, focus on pavement in front of you and try to catch up with the pack out front. All of these rankings make good copy for Bilas and the hoopster pundits and meat for the rest of us to gnaw on during the season....but that's about it.
AM and the Flyers know enough from the OCC to understand that where they end up in March started with a nice burst out of the gate and will end with playing up to their potential - and a little above - in the A-10.
No reason at all that the Flyers should not contend for A-10 title. And, IMO no reason for 8-8.....9-7.....10-6 either.
Heads down, focus....Go Flyers!!!

Plenty of Mouseketeer whining about that 'omission' in the comment section.
BTW, five A-10, five BE teams . . . seems about right.

Are Bilas's rankings the top 68 teams or is it the 68 teams that would make the NCAA tourney?

top 68 teams, its been Jay's belief that the NCAA should do away w/ the automatic bids for all conferences and just field the best 68 (or 64 or whatever number you want to use) which is why I think he does it this way.

He had 20+ against Georgia Tech, Gonzaga, Baylor, and USC, and his shooting percentages are excellent. He has had a couple off nights, but I think we need to get him more shots. When he has time to get set he is deadly from three point land.

Disagree
0-3 on a Neutral court
1-0 on the road (against a 5-7 Alabama team)
Show me you can beat a quality opponent away from home and then we can talk about rankings

Um, UC is 26th in the RPI and that was a neutral court. Seems like a quality opponent and they have zero losses outside Top100. HMMMM

GW may be the wild card here. Does the team stay the course? Does it come down to GW and UD for the 4th spot for the A10? We have to beat GW home and away. The Newark NJ Star Ledger said that this year the A10 is an extremely tough and competitive conference. I agree and think it should be very interesting conference year.

I think if Bilas makes a CBI list, X will show up there. But they will get a gold star next to their name for being in a conference that has old-time name recognition and a good television pay-out.

And you believe realtimerpi because..........
The game was played in downtown Cincy at an arena that X plays in once a year if ever. I would believe Chris' RPI data before anything on realtimerpi.

Check again on Eggsavier. They must have whined enough to get into his list now. He's modified it.
(Note: The Bilastrator mistakenly left out Xavier when this article was first published. The Musketeers have since been added.)
They check in 7 spots behind us at 40.
