And Gibbs just stuck the dagger in the Flyers. You cannot have those horrible starts, miss layups and free throws and expect to win games.

Honestly 11 seems more likely now. Consecutive sub-100 losses to end a season will not play well in the committee room.

Archie's first timeout in the first half the media listened in. AM was all over the team for playing slow. He asked them, "Why do you want to play like this?" Team has to execute the plan, and they did not.

I think we just need to be happy to make the tournament after losing these last 2. I know a lot of you feel safe. I don't. Committee has screwed over the little guy too often.
When you are outside the power 5 it's not about proving you belong. We proved we belong.
Outside the power 5 it's more about making sure they can't come up with reasons to leave you out. Over the last 7 days we gave them a reason to leave us out.

Definitely in. There are a lot of teams that would have to pass us to the point I'm not sure it's mathematically possible. But we've slid pretty far down the s-curve since the end of the VCU game.

Two teams going in different directions; Xavier winning last two and advancing in the BE tourney; Dayton a one and done with two straight losses to sub par teams.
So what will this teams legacy be; the winingest senior class who just couldn't finish.
Yep looks like they way they played the last two games there goal was to be the winningest class in school history and regular season champs and No. 1 seed. Cause they sure didn't show up for the GW or Davidson games.
Right now mu gut feeling is the womens team will advance farther than the mens team in the NCAA. Hard to get behind a team that don't put forth the effort. Two no shows very disappointing.

With the the way they played the last 2 games, they should be rewarded with a 10 or 11 seed? They deserve the 8/9 line.

I keep hearing "they won't hit those shots tomorrow they were just on today"...Bull****! We aren't playing good defense to start games and then it's too late. Have to expend a lot of energy just to get back in it and by then the other team is feeling there oats and hit those shots like Gibbs did.
Just so disappointed in a team that we have been told over and over again are mentally tough and want to things that not other UD team has done. Having trouble seeing that at the moment. Mentally tough teams don't continually fall down double digits to start games.

LOL. Assuming we get in. We might have played ourselves back on the 11-seed line. 10-seed likely, but I wouldn't be surprised.

And that is fine by me. Just get in the tournament. A 10 or 11 is fine because if they do decide to play 40 minutes and win a game the 2nd round matchup would be easier in theory.
BTW we are in good company with #1 seeds losing in their conference tourney quarterfinals. Purdue just lost to Michigan and Kansas lost to TCU yesterday.

Horrible possesion led to that shot. I'm pretty sure the shot clock was at 3 so he had to take it. The one in the 1st half was horrible though.

With the the way they played the last 2 games, they should be rewarded with a 10 or 11 seed? They deserve the 8/9 line.
|
You can bank on a 8 or 9 seed now. And really, the way they finished the season, they should feel very fortunate to even be in the dance. But, stranger things have happened. So maybe they turn it around, put these last 2 games behind them and surprise people...it's up to them...

I don't give a flying F if UD's defense was bad or if they hit ridiculous fade away 3's. Davidson won't hit sheet tomorrow. Neither will UD!!!

I said before the last Davidson game they are a terrible personnel matchup for us despite being roughly a .500 ball club. Truth still holds. Its a game that pits strengths vs weaknesses. In a 10 game series they are probably the better club. Same with UMass. But VCU or URI? Flyers prefer their styles.

Enjoy a 1 seed assuming we can salvage one win in the dance, unless the committee craps all over us and gives us a 10 seed, which is possible, and likely deserved after laying back-to-back eggs.

And to boot, some of the wins started the same way but they are soon forgotten because of the comebacks. It an all too familiar and concerning trend.

BTW we are in good company with #1 seeds losing in their conference tourney quarterfinals. Purdue just lost to Michigan and Kansas lost to TCU yesterday.

Those results are bad for us - Michigan and TCU were behind us. Wins for those 2 push us down (and maybe out).

At this point, I see Davidson in the final, possibly winning this thing as they have to feel that by beating the tar out of UD, they can. How did AM not look at Gibbs 5 years ago?

There is a way to speed it up - press, trap, and run, and he refused to initiate that. This one is on Archie. He doesn't know what to do with a team of highly skilled, less athletic players.

Then isn't it the coaching staff's job to figure out a way to combat that?

Then you have to change the style of the game and force them to play your game. But Archie fell right into their trap and played a half-court game with them. Love Archie, but these types of teams give him hell.

On ESPN they are talking about how we potentially played ourselves out of the tourney. I don't believe it but what an incredible disappointment.

Committee would need to have a convincing message ready as to how a team with 13 top 100 wins is not in.

ESPN is ridic. They're probably talking about how Clemson and Pitt are gathering steam and just knocked Dayton off the Bubble.

Everyone can read the last paragraph in the write up on df.com - not exactly convincing words from the athletic department about our dance possibilities. I think we are on the bubble.

Luckily bubble is weak this year but we certainly have done our best to make it interesting.

If Davidson wins the a10 then I feel they may make dayton sit it out. No more than two from this year's a10.

That could apply to Richmond, RI or GW too.

Less likely with RI. We beat them twice, including on the road. They finished 4th regular season, we finished first. Hard to justify putting them in but not UD.
Go Rhodey.

Those things happen to 1 team conferences all the time. It's not a stretch that the A10 could be looked as a 2 team conference and RI winning it all means nothing as far as UD's chances are. If SJ wouldn't have won the championship last season, they would've been left out despite beating the Flyers twice.

True, but remember the committee says it does not look at conference affiliations when selecting teams (although they probably actually do).

Yes, exactly. I just had a post in another thread saying the same thing.
