Updates in overanalyzing the choices of an 18-year-old: There was a Rivals Futurecast for Holmes to Marquette this morning. That's in addition to the three 247 Crystal Ball picks for Marquette yesterday.

No idea what Schwade has, but it would appear most recruiting analysts still think Holmes is heading to Milwaukee.

Those predictions are a bunch of crap. I've never paid attention to them, except the other day with Daron.

Some expert had marquette like 90%, his record was unblemished like 200 out of 200 correct picks. A few hours before the announcement he changes it to Dayton and counts it as a correct pick. That said, everything points to Washington coming to UD at this point.

I think all 3 of the "experts" flipped Daron to UD prior to his announcement. Their crystal balls do change often based upon what the information they have, which is why his 92% success rate is so high. See the same thing for college football. Crystal Balls don't mean a whole lot until about a few days prior to a kids announcement.

I think they are the same kind of player. Rim runner, stretch 4 type. Looking at what the roster looks like after this year, IF Washington comes on board, I think a lights out shooting guard would be the next target to round out the 2021 class.

Then paid his own way to visit campus. I figured he was headed our way after that. But all has been quiet since and now it seems as though his position is no longer a need. Do we only have one scholarship still available for the class of '21?

That might be a thing of the past when trying to keep up with the big boys and stay competitive where he always tried to find that diamond in the rough. Now when you're getting great players there's no need
to stop when you have other great players that might want into the program.

Any freshman-sophomore quality player who realizes they made the wrong choice (and there are more of these every year), looking at who and what is going on at UD should be knocking down the door to talk to Grant. He has been a master at picking up mid-season players. This years late start probably limits the numbers, but we will see. Guys still “know” their pecking order in practice. I doubt there is anyone who has been better the last three years than AG with mid-season transfers.

And I agree with whoever posted AG has had to do this to keep up with the P5s and won’t “have to” go this route to build his roster because we are getting them out of high school now. But my gut tells me he will always hold one back because of the success in landing great players via this option. What a luxury!

In a perfect world, I would ATTEMPT a cartwheel if we (AAC) could somehow lure UD and VCU. Even SLU if going for three.

Paint me a picture of the American as THEE preeminent college basketball conference. And please provide a clarification or definition of what preeminent means or how it's measured. Depending upon your answer, I'm struggling to see it and buy it.

I could see some positives, if you add Dayton, SLU and VCU, for the schools and for the conference as a whole.

Some variables to consider in all of this:

- It's still a football based conference, with schools like Houston, Cincy, Memphis, Tulsa, SMU and UCF probably willing to dump the AAC for a prettier girl/guy in a more football laden conference.
- There would be some depth of quality teams that have been historically good, sometimes great - with the likes of Houston, Wichita St., Cincy, Memphis, and maybe UConn and SMU.
- What's UConn's status? Aren't they gone?
- Lots of dark clouds looming over Gregg Marshall/Wichita St. right now. If he's dismissed, what's the future stability of the program?
- SMU? Really willing to bet on their consistent, future relevance on the basketball landscape?
- Temple ain't been your dad's, John Chaney, let me go choke John Calipari Temple for a long time.
- There's a lot of risk associated with the conference as a basketball-only school like UD, SLU and VCU. IMO, it's a conference built on a house of cards, not too far from the San Andreas fault line, with lots of wild fires doing more than smoldering, wondering/waiting for another football related earthquake.
- The AAC lacks a true anchor program, that's consistently in or near the Top 10. The BE has Villanova and typically a little brother each year. All of P5 have their perennial and lion's share of Top 10 teams. Example - last year alone, the BE had 4 teams rated higher in the NET at year end than the Top AAC team.
- By adding SLU, UD and VCU, are you giving anyone the boot? You're still, for the most part, adding a lot of the same. Teams that are consistently within the 30 - 60 NET rankings. Don't get me wrong, you're adding all quality, and you upgrade if you dump the laggards. But you still lack that 1 or 2 foundational programs in your conference that you can count on to ALWAYS be "Great".
- The AAC just has too much of an identity issue and a lot of risk. I'm just not sure the appeal of a Dayton, SLU and/or VCU is great enough to shake it up right now, nor do I think the appeal of the AAC to these three schools is that compelling when you look into the crystal ball of what he/she might look like 3, 5 or 10 years down the line.

Apologies if this reply takes the thread off-topic into the oft-debated, never resolved or agreed upon conference affiliation discussion.

I personally love Castro and if he commits I think he could be the best player in that class. Having a big that can do the things Obi can (spread the floor, rim run, and shoot 3s) along with being a better rebounder and shot blocker (averaged 16 rebounds) is huge especially is CAG offense. Now obviously he isn’t as talented of a scorer as Obi and probably will not be as good as Obi, but I think Castro can be a legit 5 to the point we will not be out rebounded and still have a shot blocker in the middle of the defense. Holmes and Castro would be an elite front court and allow us to compete with the big boys and dominate the A10.
