Conference Rank: #1 Big South Conference 2009-10: 19-14, 12-6
2009-10 postseason: NCAA
Coach: Randy Peele (52-45 at Winthrop, 98-114 overall)
Final Projection:
The offense simply cannot be as bad as it was last year. At times it was ugly and that is why Winthrop ended up third in the conference pecking order. They got hot at the right time and made it to the big tournament, but then got cold at the wrong time. That sort of inconsistency is not going to win a conference championship. But a year older and a year wiser, the Winthrop offense should be good enough for another NCAA appearance.
Projected Post-season Tournament: NCAA
Projected Starting Five:
Reggie Middleton, Junior, Guard, 10.1 ppg
Andre Jones, Junior, Guard, 5.9 ppg
Gideon Gamble, Sophomore, Guard, 3.5 ppg
George Valentine, Junior, Forward, 4.0 ppg
Matt Morgan, Junior, Center, 9.6 ppg

Larry and Bucky until FSO figures out what they are doing.
I emailed SID Doug Hauschild and gave him a heads up.

I went to fox sports ohio's website, found the link in the 2nd story on the main page. That link worked for me.

Video working now for a few minutes. All is well.
I'd still like to see them run some high post offense against a zone. The threes are nice, but you can't fall in love with them. We need some better looks than that.

I let Doug H know that the linkage on the UD page was the problem.
He let me know about this:
By the way, we have a new stats link we are phasing in: http://stats.udayton.edu/
Not as many bells and whistles as GameTracker, but much quicker.

I'm seeing a crispness in offensive execution thus far tonight that has been lacking for the most part this year.

So far we are getting the crisp start to a game that we have been waiting for. Passing, rebounding, defense--all good.

It seems that pressure really bothers Parker when he's pg. It affects the offense a ton, even his passes are way off the mark. This offensive lineup we have in right now has hit a real lull.
Beautiful move by CW. Seemed like a travel, but i'll take it!

These mix and match lineups we have are a challenge, but the guys seem to be adjusting to them more every game.

Defense has been pretty good so far. We have a lot more purpose with staten as pg. I wish we had a legit third option as pg to spell Staten because i'd like to see more of parker at the 2g.
I haven't seen Williams tonight. Says he played, but has he been sitting a long time?

That possession that ended in the benson dunk was one of the best possessions we've had in years. Patient, purposeful, crisp, ball reversal, driving to the hoop and dishing for an easy dunk. Soooooo good to see. More please.

Three minutes left and we have not missed a freethrow! (of course we haven't shot any either).

The Staten-Benson thing is starting to look routine! This is a temendous development offensively for this team.

Very nice half overall, particularly when staten was at PG. We've taken too many threes, but we did move the ball MUCH better than i think i've seen us do it in a long time. Really, moving off the ball was better too. Might be the best they've looked from what i've seen all year.
Gotta remember not to settle for threes. The ball movement, reversal and penetration is getting us the easy looks. Gotta keep that going.

I can't remember a half when we did not get to attempt a freethrow.
I agree on this Staten/Benson hookup. They are definitely on the same page.

Some major productivity going on here
Guards are really producing tonight. 7 first half rebounds. 8 assists and 1 turnover.
We have caused 6 Winthrop turnovers and scored 12 points off those.
May be our best half of this young season. I hope they smell blood in this second half.

While I like the offensive flow we are only 12 points ahead at the half. Better than earlier games but still not a comfortable lead by any means. Now, will we come out on fire or fall back into our old pattern.

Some good numbers:
Only 5 TO's at the half.
We're shooting 57% from inside the three point line. Hopefully we keep going in this direction.
CJ with 5 boards.
Spearman and Benson had nice halves too.
Let's do this for 20 more minutes.

ONLY 12? If we repeat that in the second half we win by 24. That ought to do it wouldn't you say??

We're just not being patient on offense. You have to do ball reversal and look to the middle against a zone. We're shooting too quickly. Our defense has really slipped, particularly on the interior. THey've had a LOT of easy buckets in there. We're getting lost on picks and switching.

Good rotation but as always our bigs are a half step slow. If Benson is 2 feet further it's a charge

That spill by staten after he got his shot blocked did not look good. Hope he's ok. Good follow by wright. Before that steal i felt like Winthrop has scored on about 8 straight possessions.

This is the evil side of our basketball IQ. Falling in love with the 3. Getting offensive rebounds and not running clock. Forgetting who our stars are. Not switching on defense or helping out.
Still a decent lead but we should work some clock.

To be honest, i'm not sure why winthrop showed so many different changes on defense tonight. Seemed like they went in and out of a zone. I think we had a few good possessions against the zone but not sure we've mastered it. We looked best when our D was good and when we got to run a little bit. We did pretty well against man to man.
Overall, a good effort tonight though. We really really outdid them on the offensive glass. Good to see. That's all effort.

Yes but we've come out flat at half too many times so 12 was not that big at the time. As it is we only scored 3 more than them in the 2nd half.
