(I thought) Swampy says he's transferring to UD...I didn't see this anywhere else but thought some HT/WT info would be helpful...and in adding this found he's only a partial, which raised all sorts of questions.
Is it official? Not sure. Stay tuned.
Edit: MY BAD....

Would rather have this guy. Pretty sure the Flyers recruited him in HS.

I saw where Swampy said the kid had Dayton on his list at one time in high school. Did I miss some recent indication of mutual interest?

My bad...I merged the end of Swampy's first sentence with the beginning of his 2nd before I had my first Royal cup of coffee.

Grady would be good or Tomasz Giello, the immediately eligible 6-9 senior from Liberty by way of Poland who averaged something like 10 and 6, shooting 40% from 3. Curious if Dayton is after him. Have seen some speculation that Marquette and Rhode Island might be involved with him.

It seems as if Archie and staff keep their recruiting info tight to the vest. I am sure they are looking at options. It certainly seems like they never rush in making these decisions and closing the deal.

Really appreciate the info that John Huston provides!
His chart makes me think that we have two scholarships available for a combination of transfers, high school seniors or high school juniors.
If we sign a transfer we would then have one scholarship open probably for a high school junior.
It would seem that we would go after a physical big and a point guard?
Is my reasoning correct on the number of scholarships?

Another kid out of Cleveland Central Catholic we recruited. Given next year's frosh class, not sure we need another forward. He may be only 6'7".

I like the idea of Grady coming here. A senior who has proven he can play and rebound, one year of eligibility left, will help balance out the class numbers a bit for UD. Would be a good pick up to provide a bit of muscle, depth, and stability in the post.

When I think of a 300 pound basketball player I will always think of Big Des, a guy with NBA potential who couldn't keep his weight down.

I haven't seen him play but his numbers are strong. His last 20 games his average was 16.2 ppg and 9.5 reb. That's strong regardless of competition level.
I would think he will have plenty of suitors. I haven't seen anything that says we are being considered but it sure seems like he would help. Is he immediately eligible?

Well, here's a "fact" --
@GoodmanESPN
Cleveland State transfer Anton Grady told ESPN he has heard from: Kansas, K-State, Iowa St, Xavier, Pitt, Wichita St, Dayton, NC State, Neb.

Another fun fact Josh Cunningham, the highly sought after Bradley transfer had an interesting twitter exchange with Kyle Davis that seems to allude to Josh making a UD visit.

That sounds bad. Cincinnati is about 4 hours from Cleveland. Dayton is closer to 3.

Depends if Anton is factoring in a stop for a burger and fries. If so, Dayton is right about 4 hours.

It depends. If my wife was driving it, she'd miss the exit for 70 westbound and would call me about Jeffersonville asking for help.
Right about 4 hours.

As a Clevelander from the southwest suburbs, I can tell you that from my house to Blackburn Court it is exactly 3 hours. If Anton lives on the east side of Cleveland, it would be a 4 hour trip.

There are lots of schools "within" 4 hours trip from Cleveland, so that tweet tells us about nothing other than ruling out most Big 12 schools.

What did the tweet say exactly? If it said within a 4 hour drive, then of the schools that contacted him he could be looking at Dayton, Xavier, and Pitt.

Here's a handy tool to help you figure out where Anton Grady might be going to school:
http://www.freemaptools.com/radius-around-point.htm
I put in 240 miles and - viola! - Kalamazoo College is within the magic circle!
Ah, the off-season . . .

Doing a Mapquest from 55th and Broadway in Cleveland (around his HS) to U of Pitt is only about 2 1/4 hours. So it may be us or X. However X is close to 4 hours, and UD about 3.5.

" Within 4 hours" IMHO means it is down to Xavier, UD, and Pitt as all are from 0 to 4 hours. Takes NC State, Kansas State, etc. out of the race.

I saw the PG that Duke recent got a verbal from at Flyin to the Hoops, he is incredibly talented; the most obviously talented player I've see on a HS court since LeBron (not that I watch a ton of HS hoops). Seems like a bit of a head case; we shall see, but Kennard is going to have a ton of talent around him, he should get lots of open looks.

Potential transfer of interest I think hit the market today: Matt Bingaya, Columbus-area kid (Delaware, OH). He is understandably trying to escape the wreckage at Southern Miss. Was the team's leading rebounder and second leading scorer. We could just think of him as the PTBNL in the Khari Price deal...

According to the article you posted, Bingaya and 2 fellow transfers are part of the NCAA investigation into Tyndall. For that alone I would pass. I know nothing about the kid, he may be a great kid, but with all that has happened at UD as of late, I do not think we need a player that is being investigated by the NCAA.

I haven't followed that situation close enough, but if Tyndall funneled money to an uncle of Bingaya, or ignored the contact periods in his recruitment, those kind of things might fall squarely on Tyndall, as opposed to the player. Due diligence on that would be needed for sure though. Definitely pass if there are character or eligibility concerns.

Agreed. Aaron Craft was at the center of the violations committed by Bruce Pearl (ANOTHER former Tennessee coach - what are they doing in Knoxville?).
He seemed to work out okay for Thad Matta. Not trying to make this about Craft, just echoing Dallas Flyer's point.

After a couple years of b*tching, it's nice to read that so many of you finally understand that behavior and character matters.
You're all one step closer to joining the Royal Roundtable.

Well, tOSU and the national press practically knighted Craft his senior year. I think the whole media nation wanted Craft to make the last shot against us. They had all the glowing puff articles lined up, waiting to jump on it. We crashed their party. I don't even recall any announcer mention that Craft was "formerly a Tennessee Volunteer recruit.
But on the whole I agree we definitely need to mend our ways on marginal character recruits. We certainly are not the only program that dabbled in stretching the limits and got burned.

Is it being implied that Craft broke some NCAA rule(s) when he was photographed at a party hosted by Bruce Pearl during a recruiting visit?
Bruce Pearl lost his job for lying to the NCAA about his blatant rule(s) violation...so let's leave Kraft out of it.
"(Kraft), along with Josh Selby and Jordan McRae, all visited Pearl's house in the fall of that year, and had no clue that it was a violation -- one that would ultimately cost Pearl his job in Knoxville. "

I didn’t know that about Craft, but things happen with boosters and coaches, that really can't be held against a player's character. I don't think anyone would argue that Craft was a bad guy, just like I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Brooks Hall.

Guard Sterling Gibbs is transferring out of Seton Hall. 6'2" 185, averaged 17 points and 4 assists last year, 5th year transfer, immediately eligible, started out at Texas but transferred after his freshman year.
Another program gets jobbed by the 5th year transfer rule, Kevin Willard can't be happy...seems like Seton Hall is a bit of a mess...Willard might be on the hot seat.

I'm actually surprised that Kevin Willard is still around. I assumed he would have been let go after the season considering the mess that has occurred there. I didn't realize he was still around.

Comparing Craft to Brooks Hall does Brooks a grave disservice. Craft was dirty from the start in the UT situation, and when rat face entered the picture, he had to run off a committed recruit to make a spot for him. Very ugly situation that the media just sort of ignored, as the crowned Craft as some kind of great player. He was very mediocre on "O" and for some unknown reason was allowed to do a whole lot more on "D" than any other player. Just a hack in my estimation.
I sort of enjoy seeing Craft selling tractors on TV now, with the other tOSU has-beens......

He has 2 brothers. One was an All Big East player at Pitt.
The other, Temple Gibbs, is a 2016 PG, Top 75 player in the country. Apparently Pitt and ND are the favorites for his services, and I read somewhere this AM that Temple is on ND campus for a visit this weekend and the brothers may go as a package to ND.
It'd be great if we could land them as a package, but unlikely considering we haven't recruited Temple, although his Verbals page shows just about every other school has.
BTW Temple is a weird name.

I guess the NBA D league and its refs got the Aaron Craft memo too. He was named the 2015 D League defensive player of the year.

The kid eats at a BBQ and accepts a scholarship and is dirty? Come on now. I'm no fan of OSU basketball, especially when we were playing them in Buffalo, but it's ridiculous to imply Craft was anything other than a hard working kid playing basketball. We would've loved him if he wore the red and blue.

Agree. I totally get not liking him if you dislike Matta and Ohio State, or if the media attention turned you off (see Tebow, Tim) but it is pretty unfair to criticize a kid for accepting an invitation to dinner at a coach's house. You would like to think a high school junior or senior could trust an NCAA coach to not invite him to do something that was an NCAA violation. Kids should know not to accept things from agents and others, but 100% of the blame there goes to Pearl.
It would be equally unfair to criticize Craft for taking another kid's scholarship. You can criticize Matta all you want for running a player off, but Craft was offered a scholarship and accepted it. There's nothing wrong with that.

A lot of pirate fans were not real happy with Willard before this came out. I know one fan who is not renewing his season tickets for next year. He told me "I've had enough". Supposedly Willard and AD are tight.

what success has Seton Hall had in the last 50 years outside of a short run under PJ. They are right where they almost always been, a Big East bottom feeder.

Kidding. It's pretty amazing that in the 21 seasons since PJ left they've only been to the NCAA tournament 3 times.

That is pretty amazing. I mean, we've been to The Dance 6 times in those same 21 years, and that includes the end of the JOB era, when our program was on life support, and the entire BG era, when we reached the heights of mediocrity.

Paschal Chuckwu was given his release from Providence yesterday. He is a former top 75 recruit and legit 7'2. He showed some flashes at Providence. 3 years of eligibility left. This would be somebody that I would love to see UD go after. He was slated to be the starter for Providence this year.

I heard he couldn't help contain some team in the tournament despite having no one taller than 6'6", pass
actually, that's a ton of length and size. Considering that it typically takes time for a big guy to develop and adjust to their body size, having a year off could be a huge boost for the kids development.

He's a good player. Averaged 15.5 pts/game and 9.6 rebounds/game. Big kid at 6-9, 240 lbs from Warren, OH. Being the closest school to his hometown of those showing interest, it's not a stretch to think he'd be interested in Dayton. Only one year of eligibility left though, and hasn't graduated, so he'd have to sit a year.

Archie has said though recently that he's not really looking for guys to come in with 1 year left. He used to have to take those players, but he wants someone that fits the program now long-term. He was quoted saying that in an article a couple weeks ago.

Derrick Daniels is being recruited hard by Ball State and BGSU. Says UD is still his top choice (we've offered already I believe) and wants to make a decision before the start of his senior season. I think that's this upcoming year. He'd be a good get from Thurgood. Keeping the local products at home. He's long and lean but looks like he could fit the system well.

Archie's quote:
“We only add people if it makes sense for us in terms of fit and long term,” Miller said. “We’ve decided to really stay away from some of the fifth-year guys because I don’t think anything has made sense in terms of, ‘Hey, we have a big hole here, we need to do that.’”
I think "wants someone that fits the program long term" and "makes sense for us in terms of fit and long term" sound similar but are not the same. Archie's quote doesn't really shut the door on the fifth-year transfer as much as narrow down the field to someone that must fit the culture and needs of the team. It seems that he said he hasn't found one (as of the interview) that does that this year.

I hope we get em' both (or at least one of em')!
My have things in college D1 basketball over the years?
So many "transfers", first year transfers (prior coach leaves) , 4th year transfers and recently 5th year guys with a a year left to play "IF" they've completed a four year degree!
When I hear these coaches talk about D1 coaching as being a 365 day a year job, I think we're all getting a better understanding of that mindset!

Evan Daniels Tweeted thusly:
Junior Tyler Foster is visiting VCU tomorrow, per a source. He will make his college choice next week. Down to Dayton, Georgetown & VCU.
And then this happened late Friday:

Looks like Foster may be down to GU and UD.

Each day the good transfers are perilously close to the music stopping and no chairs are left.
The squeeze is on. The slots are being filled, and it appears Arch is ok with his multiple targets such that one or two good ones will drop in our lap.

You can tell you have, or have had kids. I didn't catch this when I first read it. Of course I don't pronounce Gaston as the French do, haha.

I hear you. Mine is 27. I took her to see that as a new release on the curved screen at the old Dabel on Smithville. A couple years later that theatre was razed. Sorry for the derailment..

I assume Gaston can still accept his offer, only 12 on scholarship now if Wehrli is not included.

Gaston to X
@jeffborzello: Xavier has landed Norfolk State transfer RaShid Gaston. Big man averaged 15.5 ppg and 9.6 rpg last season. Sit one, play one. Good pickup.

I believe UD still has 1 more opening for 2016, including Landers.
