I counted five missed layups. All makeable. There is the difference. And, of course, rebounding.

And another missed layup. Why are we shooting layups, down 11 with 50 seconds left?

Choke layup by Vee and a dumb shot by Pierre and that is the game. Those two sum up the night.

62-52. 16 seconds left. Still taking the ball inside for 2. Not sure I understand that strategy. Just trying to not lose by too much?

We needed to play a near perfect game to have a chance. We didn't.

Coulda woulda shoulda. If this were in the A10 I'd be upset. We played terribly and we could have been in this one. But with the overall result of the season it's really hard to be upset. Florida played very, very well. They played well enough to win, but we played bad enough that anybody in the top two-thirds of the A10 would have beaten us. This should have been a nailbiter if we played well.

62-52 final. Like I said, hard to be too upset, but had we played just a little better, and I mean just a little better, we win this game....

Ya, think we just were not making shots which we had been making. Simple explanation, but it is not rocket science.

We didn't play terribly. Florida's defense is elite. It was a really good effort.

Didn't need to be near-perfect but needed to be good. This wasn't good. But proud of the season. And proud of Oliver - he had a great game to go out on.
We were in it right into the last 2 minutes. Pierre needed to do a post move instead of passing to Pollard. That could have got us within 6 with enough time left. Beyond that, our last few possessions were wayyyy too slow. Needed to rush some threes to speed the game up. If we missed, it would have sealed our fate sooner. But playing more slowly just made the loss more certain.
In any case, even with a good game it would have been tough to pull it out.

Lot to like about this year and lots to look forward to in the future.
We used to envy another Ohio Catholic school. I think that our time is coming and we will see more good years.

Hard to play the #1 team when only three of your guys show up. Pierre, Oliver and Kav were our only three players tonight. They had 36 pts and 17 rebounds. Vee and Sibert were 1-8 with 1 rebound. Scoochie and Price were 2-6 with 2 assists.
Great, great year. I will take one of those every other year.

Awesome year! They played tough and put forth a good effort this game. They got great looks most of the game versus an elite defense, but the shots didn't fall. They belonged on that court. Even though they lost, they showed themselves to be a legitimate Elite 8 team. They weren't "lucky" to be there - they deserved that spot.

We outscored Florida in the second half. That last few minutes of the first half was murder.

I'm disappointed that, in my opinion, we didn't give Florida our best shot. Only losing by ten without giving our best shot creates a lot of "What if..."

Gave them 15 more foul shots made than us. In the end we outshot them on %, but FT's was the game. Lack of stopping the dribble drive and rebounding were what led to a bunch of fouls.

One criticism of ARCHIE. we need an effective press or trapping next year, and have the speed and personnel for it.
Related to that. From 5 minutes to 1:45 left why isnt someone pressuring Wilbekin while hes dribbling seconds off the clock.
Florida took about 1:50 offf the clock in a 3 minute span. Good game plan otherwise.
Expected to get outrebounded. And knew florida pkays tough D and Patric Young is a beast down low. But Wilbekin is really the pkayer that killed us

Quite true, but it's clear that the better team won tonight. We'd win at least 1, probably 2, maybe even 3 out of a 7 game series. Too bad one of those wasn't tonight. I don't really care that they're the better team... but I really did want to be the winning team.

Funny, but usually when people say that it's complaining about the officials. The game seemed to be called really well - I never found myself disagreeing with them, anyway. And our fouls were for the most part smart fouls. The majority of them took away easy buckets and put them at the line. But getting to that point in the first place means we didn't stop the dribble drive and/or the post players. Or the offensive rebounders.

I will disagree with anyone saying UD did not play well. I thought the played well. Ball movement and cuts didn't produce as many open looks. And you aren't going to shoot 50% against Florida on the looks the got. Too much size and athleticism altering things.
It was going to take an exceptional, if not perfect, UD game or a bad Florida game. Neither happened.
I am ok with it. Not the least bit embarrassed at result. And definitely not the effort. Could have folded the tents and did not. Get a couple late ****s to fall and who knows.

You're right. I take it back. They did play well. They played hard, ran the sets and got the open looks. The defense was as good as it could be against the #1 team in the nation. That does add up to a good game.
But they missed more open shots than they should have and didn't keep Florida off the offensive glass. Those two things would have sunk Dayton against most of the A10, not just the #1 team in the nation. Can't do much about the shots not falling. That's just probability playing itself out. And giving up the offensive rebounds... if that was the only thing to complain about in this game then it really was a great effort overall. Just disappointed it wasn't our 'best' shot because we had a chance right to the end.
Still proud of this team.

Sibert 0-0 in the last 34 minutes of the game! Sibert and Price combined for 0-5 for 0 total points.
^ Pretty amazing, and still only lost by 10.
But still, a FANTASTIC YEAR for our FLYERS!!!!!

On the radio post game comments, Larry and Archie discussed the Flyer fans, and Archie talked about how the Flyer fans are just as good as any other top level team. I wonder if this last few weeks have truly given him a large appreciation for the fan base and wonder if there may be less schools to jump to now. (NCState, Pittsburgh, ???)

Those two schools were my exact thoughts. Those are the only two schools that come to mind for him outside the top 10 programs. I'm sure a top 10 program could lure him away. Hopefully he isn't ready to jump at any mid-tier BCS school (outside those two), and hopefully none of his target jobs open up any time soon!
