Not the first time a Dayton player has not been selected for something or other. Wasn't a former player not selected as defensive player of the year when we thought he should have been?
Of course VCU did "WIN" the league regular season. Had we done that maybe Deuce would have been selected.

They really should just name the POY-best player on team that won the regular season, because when you look at every metric DaRon was head and shoulders above Baldwin. Look at the KenPom numbers.

GW didn't win enough games for James Bishop IV to beat out Baldwin.
Bishop stuffed the offensive stat sheet.

Seeing as Baldwin and Holmes are both sophomores, I dug in the verbal commits pages for UD and VCU...
Looking at VCUs soph class... they are getting contributions from 7 out of 8 on scholarship, and only had one transfer
Compare that to our sophomore class.
UD is getting contributions from 6 out of 8 on scholarship, and had five transfer
https://www.verbalcommits.com/schools/vcu
VCU current sophomore class (8 scholarships)
Baldwin
Nunn
Jackson
Banks
Watkins
Kern
DeLoach
McAllister (injured)
Brown-Jones (transferred)
https://www.verbalcommits.com/schools/dayton
Dayton current sophomore class (8 scholarships)
Holmes
Smith
Elvis
Brea
Blakney
Amzil
Amaefule
Zimi
Washington (transferred)
Greer (transferred)
Frazier (transferred)
Baker (transferred)
Sissoko (transferred)
Oh, and VCU has 3 freshmen under scholarship now, and we have one (Mike)

All season, as fans of the Flyers, we've gone back and forth over whether Holmes or Camara were our best players. If we are splitting our votes here, why wouldn't the coaches who played against us? Ace had no teammates competing with him for the honors.

I think many on this board thought Rodney Chatman should have won the award because AG said he was the greatest defensive player he ever coached. I don't think he even made the All-Defensive team iinm.

How can you have 6 players selected on the league's 1st and 2nd all league teams vs. 5?

I believe Kyle Davis also got shafted, but I didn't need Coach Miller to tell me how good he was. I could see it with my own eyes.

One other thing as to why Ace won over our 2 bigs. I can imagine coaches mainly base their vote on the games they play in. VCU beat 13 different teams in the A10 while Dayton beat only 11. If it was a narrow win, that might explain it.

Young man is a credit to his parents and the university.
@DavidPJablonski
DaRon Holmes II was asked by
@JBedellWHIO
if he felt slighted by not winning A-10 Player of the Year. Holmes (here talking to Arch before practice today) said, “Unfortunately, that’s out of my control. I’m happy for Ace Baldwin. He was the best player on the best team.”

After the A-10 Tournament:
VCU Rams > Dayton Flyers
DaRon Holmes II > Ace Baldwin

Yeah, keep feeding the VCU board with material. It's embarrassing enough that they have this gif that comes out everytime we play them with the Cheerleaders trying to spell "FLYERS" but the 2nd one has her cutout turned around with the "A" from "DAYTON" and we've for ever since been called the "FAYERS" by them.
Then people here moan and groan that that a guard that carries his team to 1st place finish 3 games up on the pre-season champions gets POY over our guy who is really 2 guys that you pick your poison with.
The Rams picked their poison to be Duece over Camara yesterday and they made the right choice. They have every right to feel vindicated in the Ace-Deuce(Dang, I never thought of that combination) debate.

In college basketball guards rule, so statistically Holmes may have been better, but Ace led his team to the promised land.

Or….maybe it’s that the A10 coaches aren’t the best judges of talent and value. Might explain why the A10 has deteriorated into a second class league (assessment reinforced by VCU 1st round loss).

Or Ace deserved it. A PG that leads his team to a championship both regular season and post season over 2 bigs that played for the same team and finished behind them and lost to them in the championship is not so outrageous as the homers here think it is.
Deuce isn't even a clear cut player of the year for the Flyers, why would he be for the whole A10.

Then why was Holmes voted MOP of the tourney? By any individual measure Holmes was better than Ace. But I guess they could just rename it best player on first place team, because that’s what it was.

You're judging over a 3 game period vs a 31 game period. That's not really the same thing.
