My disdain for VCU grows by the year. They’re like the “poor man’s Xavier”. Consistently have our number despite only having a program since 1968.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/VCU_...27s_basketball

It’s made worse that Grant’s career started at VCU and still we struggle.

Everyone needs rivals. IMO SLU has more tradition and prestige than VCU. Curious to see what Coach Schertz (want to call him Scherzer) can do. I consider them a dark horse this season.

So let’s sweep VCU … go Flyers.

Max Shulga return to VCU after changing his mind on the transfer to Villlanova
was a big key.

Davidson dead last at #241, wow.

I think Bart is being overly optimistic that the other 14 teams will be #162 or better.

Yes, there is a contact link on his site, tell him about your complaint, he is very responsive.

It is unlikely that you complaining will change anything though, per the statistics, Bart doesn't project Mousa as being a top contributor. But Bart could be wrong, one of 2024's top contributors for Dayton wasn't listed in Bart's 2024 top preseason contributors page. I don't remember who it was, Cheeks? maybe.

I'm concerned about Davidson as a program. They are very white and unathletic. Matt McKillop keeps doubling down on his dad's principles but not as good a coach.

Pretty big bump for URI to #7/116 overall -- Archie needs to deliver soon. Will always be grateful for what he did here.

No, not really IMO, I bet they gave him a long rope. I don't think he will be under any real pressure to deliver a ncaat team until year 5, maybe year 4.

It'll be interesting to see how much rope they give Matt McKillop. Early returns suggest he's not a particularly good coach. Last year's team was pretty bad and represented a pretty big decline from the year prior and a huge step down from Bob's teams. Hard to picture the administration canning their legendary coach's son in short order no matter how bad it gets.

They face pretty restrictive academic standards, and it's not exactly a historically great basketball program. Toss in a nepo coach while his still-living dad's name is on the court, and it could get real ugly at Davidson.

Hope they get it turned around for the sake of the A10.

I think Archie gets more time provided he shows the program is moving in the right direction. It's a strangely pivotal year for him. In his first season in Kingston, he won 9 games total and 5 in conference (finishing 14th in the A10). Then, 12 and 6 (finishing 10th). I'd think a move to the middle of the conference may be needed this year, otherwise the higher ups may start having some initial thoughts about his fit as a Ram.

Iinm, they gave Archie a great contract, I could be wrong though, I'd have to look it up, but I am pretty sure they bet the house on him, it won't be cheap or easy to fire him. IMO, he will be there until the situation becomes a totally untenable dumpster fire, or he leaves for another job.

Of course, his IU experience may have soured him on trying to move up again. He may be successful there and be there for the rest of his head coaching career/the next 30 years.

Def projection is too low. Should be able to lock down the perimeter with Cheeks/posh/Mali/Bennett. Top 25 defense feels doable

Off projection feels a tad high. Our 3pt shooting may be quite bad, and teams should be able to pack the paint against us

Signed a five-year deal for $8.5 million. He'll obviously get year three, and year four is highly likely barring some kind of bottoming out in 24-25. His deal is backloaded and has somewhere between $2 million and $2.5 million owed in year five. I'd imagine Rhode Island isn't particularly inclined to pay a buyout, but that's not an especially prohibitive number by CBB standards.

Like others, really pulling for Archie. Not the warmest guy in the world, but I'm be ****ed if I don't appreciate him. Worth noting, he had Dayton at 17-14 and 11th in the A10 in year two, then in the Elite Eight in year three. Hope for his and the A10's sake, he gets it rolling in Kingston this year.

Ok, well the previous RI hc Cox was only getting $700k per year when he was hired, so Archie is getting more than double that: 8.5/5=1.7 mil.

I would call that betting the house.

I was looking at Torvik's preseason rankings.

The Mountain West is projected to have zero at large teams, wow.

https://barttorvik.com/trankpre.php?...ear=2024&sort=

So strange seeing:

The ACC added Cal, Stanford, and SMU...now an 18 team super league.

The Big 10 added UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington...now a 20 team super league.

The Big 12 lost Texas and Oklahoma but added Arizona State, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado...now a 16 team super league.

The SEC added Texas and Oklahoma...now a 16 team super league.

The WCC added Washington State and Oregon State...big step down for those 2...WCC now at 11 teams

The Pac 12 no longer exists.

Totally bizarre to join WCC as "affiliate" instead of just joining MW for all sports. Those teams acting like they are too good for MW football is laughable.

I screwed up...UCLA and USC are also joining the Big 10...Big 10 now a 20 team monster league.

Hard to keep up with all the changes.

This doesn't seem sustainable: UCLA and USC in the Big 10? These cross country leagues don't seem sustainable, the travel distances are too far.

If they can make this work, then I guess Gonzaga to the Big East is not out of the question.

So it appears that Oregon State and Washington State are joining the WCC for all sports other than football, they are going independent in football.

I guess those two have some sort of football scheduling arraignment with the MW.

What a fall for those two schools, the drop in conference TV revenue and ncaat bid conference shared $ has to be massive.

Right I'm saying it is stupid not to just join the MW for everything. They are acting like they are too good for MW football which is a joke. And MW >>>>> WCC as a conference in general. Dumb, pretentious, delaying the inevitable.
