Cedarville (Exhibition) Game Thread
Game week is officially here, albeit unofficially... Cedarville heads back to the Arena for another Exhibition Game.
Game is on Monday at 7 PM... TBD if it's streamed.
Projected Starting Lineup:
G 2 Branden Maughmer 6’3” 180 SR Chillicothe, OH
G 55 Quinton Green 6’7” 180 SR Columbus, OH
F 5 Isaiah Speelman 6’6” 210 SR Hilliard, OH
F 35 Conner TenHove 6’7” 230 GS Valparaiso, IN
C 10 Kollin Van Horn 6’8” 220 SR Proctorville, OH
They return all 5 starters from last year... Maughmer is their best player, 16.2 PPG 5.7 RPG 4.2 APG.
Time to see what this young squad has, as well as the rotation.
Go UD!

As Jablonski mentioned in his story, these two teams could hardly be more polar opposites. Cedarville's starting lineup is a bunch of 21-24 year-olds who are all in their 4th or 5th year in the program. Of the seven Cedarville guys who played 10+ minutes in the exhibition against UD two years ago, six of them will be back tonight. Of the entire UD roster from that night two years ago, Moulaye Sissoko will be back.
New young talent vs. an experienced unit.

No Amzil is a bigger surprise to me. Weaver Dinged up? Message being sent for his comments ? Hard to see neither of them not starting due to their play. If so that seams like a good sign.

Supposedly, Weaver struggled in the scrimmage but I dunno, maybe they like Kobe better as the starting PG... No way it was the comments ha

So far sharing the ball quite well. 13 assists on 16 baskets, with only 3 turnovers at the 4 minute TO.

Gave up 10 Offensive rebounds, 5 on one possession. Otherwise sounded like the O was fluid. Looking forward to in person accounts of how they played, and observations about the competition.

Probably poor shooting. maybe some D? What I like is assists. Means even against a lower team and blow out they are still trying to run an offense. If they are going to do anything this year, they will need discipline to stick to running offense as a team.

Camara with 4 assists plus 14 points sure has an Obi feel to it. Only got it from the stats so can't say for sure, but hope he's the type that gets it inside and can immediately kick it back out for easy 3s.

Sounded like his reverse jam on a bad pass in the first half had an Obi sound to it.

Players I haven't seen show up in the live feeds. Washington, Zimi, Greer and Amaefule.
I think I saw that Greer wasn't in uniform, any info on if the other 3 have played?

Malachi has a swagger to him Scoochie never had. He’s firey and in your grill. He’a made a few frosh mistakes though but he’s gonna be a good one.
Holmes has been rather quiet on both ends. He’s gonna get pushed around a bit.
Elvis looks solid on both ends. Blakney looked workmanlike and is too unselfish to me. The offense appeared to run better with Elvis at the point over Weaver.
Again tonight Kaleb looks lost.
Greer keeps holding his left elbow so perhaps he is banged up. He’s shown alot in the few minutes he’s been in. Strong take to the rack and sweet pass in traffic to Sissoko for an and 1.
Lots to work on - Very poor perimeter D most the night and several total breakdowns on D led to uncontested layups.
Lots more to be excited about though

At this time I think you can tell there are 9-10 players above the others. Washington, Greer, Amaefule, Mo coming in late.

That's what exhibition games are for. To iron out the kinks. Stats keeper also needs to work on somethings as does the camera man for the post game presser as we're getting a sideways view.

Just got back from the game. This is a very deep and talented team. Won’t rely on one or two players to score like last year. Have 5 or 6 guys who can really stroke it from deep. Camara isa beast. With him and Holmes we are going to get a lot of rebounds.

If you’re saying Camara = Toppin? No. Toumani has more of a “lunchpail” feel to him. Sort of like, if Ryan Perryman and Obi Toppin had offspring that would get together, you’d have Toumani Camara.

Was there to see it. Generally a pretty good recap, Marysville. Among my thoughts regarding the “lesser” players, based on PT and when they entered the game:
-Washington: Plays “young”. Needs a bit more seasoning, and a lot more strength. Has a good attitude, and should be a contributor, in time.
-Greer: Has good moves to the hoop. Showed well, in limited action. I wonder if he has a bit of a “My dad was a great player, so…” attitude? Dunno.
-Amafule: Still way too early to tell. Didn’t stand out in either a good way or a bad way.
My thoughts, anyway.

I thought Brea was one of our worst recruits last year. He's still young and I generally like to speak positively.
I do think newer guys may outshine him. Let him play otherwise and show us

Didn't see the game, but I think we all put too much importance on how a player shot in one game. If Brea had gone 3 for 5 instead of 1 for 5, would it have been considered a good game?
By the way, how many people were in attendance? Knowing nothing, I am guessing 10,000.

I’d say between 9-10K. I’ve been coming to these exhibitions for 30+ years and this was probably the best attended.

Considering we scored 96 pts, he played a lot of minutes, and 3 players were in double figures at the half, I’d say yes. To me he wasn’t a presence in any real way on either end. He gave up several offensive rebounds to slow, non-athletic guys. I’m not worried, just think he had an average game given the talent, height and athletic advantages he had tonight that he won’t have in a lot of games.
Cedarville played a lot of man and he never was really able to be isolated and exploit in the half court O.
