I have never found myself pulling for Rhody as hard as I am today. In fact I think it is very crucial to our conference tourney run. If VCU goes down UD controls its own destiny with a chance to clinch the league outright with a win on Wednesday. Even more important....
Would love to have VCU and Rhody as the 2 and 3 seeds in the conference tourney. A Rhody win takes that one step closer. I do not want to see either of those 2 teams until the finals. The 2 teams I do not want to see us open up with in the quarters is Lasalle and St.Bonny.

And ESPN cuts away to the Clemson FL St game because 4-11 bubble Clemson is in a close one. Disgusting.

That was the craziest thing I've ever seen. No idea what ESPN was doing there.
12:05 left in the first half and both teams are already in the bonus. This game is going to be a FT contest with several players fouling out by the end of it. Ugly game so far.
14-12 Rhody

Andre Berry sighting for Rhody. I don't think he's played since he didn't miss a single shot and scored 15 points at UD last year.
Also this game is horribly ugly.
VCU up 32-29 2:42 left in the half.

VCU wants this style of game don't they? They would be thrilled to come in here on Wednesday and have a game with 30 total fouls per half with no offensive flow.

Rhody now up 51-38. I think I want them to win this one, b/c it makes our 2 wins over them look that much better (2nd level points). The only downside is, that will mean VCU will show-up Wednesday figuring their season could be on the line. Few things fight like a cornered animal.

Rhody now only up 51-44, they are getting 3 point shooting happy -- shooting 3s with 25 seconds left in shot clock off balance from NBA range.
I hate the Rhode Island offense. VCU has great defense, but I literally do not understand what they are trying to accomplish offensively. Screens are poor, players run around the screens versus off them, etc., etc. Bunch of 1 on 1s. When they are patient, don't accomplish anything for first 10-15 seconds of shot clock as dribble at top of key. It reminds me of the aimless BG offensive sets.

VCU is going to play hard Wednesday regardless of what happens today. Rhody winning keeps them in the top 50 of the RPI and means UD can win the conference title Wednesday night. You should be cheering for Rhody

Rhody, stop passing the ball around the perimeter and jacking a 3 with 5 seconds left on the shot clock, VCU has 7 fouls, please drive to the hoop.
Awful call on Rhody with 5:02 left, defensive player in legal guarding position and call push?!?!?!
48 fouls called in the game, 24 each and 5 minutes to go.
YES, Rhody now driving the the bucket. Rhody is up 59-53 with 4:30 to go. But all 5 starters have 4 fouls.

Yep. Whatever zone VCU is playing is killing Rhody. They have no idea how to attack it.
Also the refs with a nice screw up to lose the possession arrow for Rhody.

This sets up effectively a battle for the A-10 crown Wednesday in the DDD. Rhody is primed to go 13-5 in the A-10. Gets them back in the bubble picture and gives us 2 sure Top 50 wins. Also means we don't have to beat Rhody AND VCU to win the tournament. Let them battle hard for the right to play us in the Final.

Rhody really does look like a BG flyer team. A lot of athleticism but no solid offense. That was an U G L Y game!
I must have missed it...why was Tillman not playing much in the second half?

How do you figure we will not have to beat Rhody and VCU to win the tourney? If we end up the 1 seed, will more than likely play the winner of 4/5 Rhody / St Bonny game in semis, then finals be against VCU. Richmond almost has the 3 seed locked up if my math is correct. As I mentioned in another thread, it might be a blessing in disguise come tournament time if we ended up the #2 seed and did not have to beat either Rhody or St Bonny for a third time, instead beating Richmond in the semis to get to the finals.

I was thinking the same thing. They really have some big, athletic players, but their offensive schemes are awful - mostly perimeter passing and then slinging up a 3-ball...very sloppy.

Yeah, I couldn't figure out why they were going into "extend the game" mode when they were only down 4 with @ 3:00 to play. Of course, maybe that's how they always play?
Regardless, make it 2 years in a row, boys! Clinch the title against VCU on your home court!

Agree for A-10 Tourney, but rather beat VCU home and have tougher path in A-10 Tourney. Beat VCU and Dayton near a lock.

#23 Creighton lost earlier. Of course #26 lost today as well. Iowa State probably moves in with their win over Baylor. We'd have to leapfrog South Carolina and USC as well as Northwestern. Of course, all three of those squads had a loss this week. I would not be surprised to see us sneak in at #25.

This is simple- in the A10 there is room for only one bull. I'm glad VCU lost today, and I look forward to futher crushing their hopes for a A10T title Wednesday. If they can limp in to the NCAAT after that then bless them as that's great for the league.

If VCU loses to UD, they will still get in by beating George Mason on regular season finale and one game in A10 tournament.
Northwestern on the other hand, will get the benniffit of the doubt if they are even remotely close to NCAA AT-LARGE Cut-line, because it just isn't "fair" that Northwestern has never made an NCAA TOURNAMENT. just think about the kind of decision makers originating from the NCAA.

Nebraska has the #1 rated SOS in the country right now.
Nebraska's latest loss to MSU gives them 15 "good losses". With their top 25 win over UD by 2 points that should put them on the bubble.

If Xavier loses three more straight including to DePaul, I think their first round Big East game would be to make the field.

I'm so in the weeds with all this stuff, I could identify each of those teams instantly based on resume.

Yeah, obviously Dayton, X and Wichita State. But it proves the point that Chris is making, which is regardless of numbers, perception is reality when it comes to poll voters, talking heads and, in some measure, the selection committee.

I don't think so. Not yet, anyway. Their RPI and SOS are still too high for them to get overlooked completely. And today's loss, while a disappointment in the Queen City, was no disgrace. Lots of teams lose to Butler. But, if they were a stock instead of a college basketball team, they'd probably be a "Sell" at this point.
They have 2 weeks to right the ship. I see their "dance" possibilities this way:
-No more wins probably = "Last 4 Out"
-1 more win probably = Play-In Game
-2 more wins probably = 10-Seed
And beyond that, they're back to 7-9 Seed territory.

Yes, you are probably right.
If this Xavier scenario is not the perfect example of why being in the BE is so great, I am not sure what would be.

I don't want to be in any conference where my team looses 5 straight. What's the fun in that?

Yup.
I hate it when we lose, regardless of all else. Making a habit of losing game in and game out like xavier is doing is not appealing no matter how full the other half of the glass.

Don't be so sure they're making the tourney. Team rankings is a very good site for giving odds. If X only wins a ne more game they are a 50/50 proposition.

Not sure if they will make it or not. Just must be nice to completely tank and have it not matter as much just by being in the BE. I hope they don't make it.

CBS now has XU on their Bubble Watch:
"We welcome Xavier to the bubble, although now that I say that, nobody that once appeared to be comfortably in wants to be welcomed here. The Musketeers are tanking. They have lost five in a row to fall to 18-11. They have played a good schedule, so they just might be able to survive losing out, but I would not count on it. Especially since that means a loss at DePaul. This may just be a brief stop on the bubble for Xavier."

They also had VCU on the bubble watch. Not a good sign for A10.

VCU has been on their bubble watch from the beginning, right near the top which based upon how they do it means they are close to being "locked in" Dayton dropped off their bubble watch in the last update, meaning that Palm believes UD is now in regardless of the next 2.

Palm's take on VCU: "There are no chances for higher quality wins in the A-10 this year, so they need to avoid picking up any more bad losses."
I guess a road win over #21 RPI Dayton wouldn't be a higher quality win this week. Whatever, not worth being bothered by this statement. Palm must have hated having to take Dayton off this list.

That's why paying attention to Palm and others is merely a case of mental gymnastics. The key is to do precisely what Archie and the Flyers are doing - win your scheduled games no matter what their RPI or Palm status.

Small conference tournaments get under way this week, last week for the majors to move their way up or down/ in or out.
#8 UNC @ #18 UVA. Viginia will likely drop a little in the polls this afternoon, and has been shaky the last few weeks, a loss here (no shame) combined w/ a home loss to Pitt later this week may allow the Flyers to jump ahead of them on the seed line.
VMI @ Western Carolina w/ 14 combined wins b/w the 2, somebody has to in.
#12 WVU @ #9 Baylor, expect these two to flip rankings this afternoon, neither will drop behind UD at this point on the seed line, but a potentially fun game.
E Tennessee St @ UNC-Greensboro, a win for either clinches the 1 seed in their conference tournament.
Miami @ VTech, I expect Miami to be ranked this afternoon, and UD to be not, so go Hookies

I saw that one of the first and second round sites of the NCAAT was moved from Greensboro, North Carolina to Greenville, South Carolina, as punishment for the NC House Bill 2, regarding the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender bathroom issue.
Does anyone know what there is to do in that area?
I saw that Clemson played their games there in 2015-2016, as their regular arena was being worked on.
Clemson U. is obviously close by.
Charlotte, NC, a little less than 2 hours away
Atlanta 2.5 hours
Asheville, NC 1:15
Augusta, Georgia 2.5 hours
Athens, Georgia 1:40

Greenville is a great city with a beautiful downtown area. There would be no reason to go anywhere else.
But, if you are a wanderer, Asheville is a little over an hour away and the Cherokee casino is within driving distance too

Clemson is actually almost an hour away.
Agree with Springborofan that downtown Greenville is very nice, especially the Reedy Falls / Peace Center area. You are about a mile and a half away from the arena in this area, but there are a ton of quality restaurants and bars here, not to mention the Falls park itself.
Just a little West of the area is pretty sketchy... Kinda like Dayton. There is a mediocre zoo and a mediocre art museum also within about a mile of this area.

My brotherin law lives in Greeneville. IZt is a very nice town with some shopping and lots of food and beer downtown. I would think there would be plenty to do on an off day just walking around and finding a pleace to watch some hoops. The BMW plant is nearby and may be open for a visit. Asheville is an hour drive and is fantastic as well. If the weather is good, just go for a hike in the Smoky mountains!

Thanks for the replies...sounds like I will be getting to know the Greenville area better if we are sent there.
That was a long drive for the Clemson fans all season long, I erroneously thought Clemson looked to be a lot closer than an hour, just by eyeballing the map.

The problem with Greenville is that I could see both UNC-Ch and Duke both playing there. Harder to get tickets. Same with Indy. Could be both Louisville and UK. Give me Buffalo again. Villanova will be there but I don't think their fan base is as big plus they would probably assume they will go to the regionals and therefore wait to travel to MSG.

I don't know if all the lower tier conference tournaments are listed yet on cbs sports (where I pull these from) as sometimes the tournament results from the night before take a while to show up in the next day's schedules. I'm not sure that any of those games would matter at this point to UD or not, nor how many of them there are, but non the less:
G'town @ Seton Hall I'm sure G'town would love to be on the bubble at this point, but they are not (thank you DePaul), so pull for them to upset the Hall on the road
Maryland @ Rutgers (only b/c the terps have been sliding and are on the road, Rutgers is B.A.D. and I'm not talking about the King of Pop)
#15 Free Shoes U @ #17 Puke just because
Bona @ Davidson (we want Bona to win)
Miss St @ So Carolina I doubt Miss St can pull the upset, but non the less
St Johns @ Creighton we'd like to see the Johnnies spring the road upset
Vandy @ #9 UK Would be huge for Vandy, I have my doubts
Okie St @ #24 Iowa St not sure who to root for
Pitt @ GTech, why are either of these still in bubble discussion?

It's pure garbage. They're still bubble teams because the talking heads say so. Wake and Clemson too??
F@#K trying to get in the Big East. Let's just beg, plead, and pay to get in the ACC......where it comes with an automatic berth to the Dance.

A-Sun quarters were yesterday, Big South and Patriot first rounds are today, Ohio Valley, America East, and NEC start tomorrow.
I think all of those are one bid leagues.

Guess I've been using some of these monikers so long, I forget that they've lost relevance. I assume Puke would be easy, Free Shoes U, as the article shows, is pretty dated.

Bona down 3 at the half, but they were down 14. It's on ASN. Halftime feature is Dayton's Chicago Connection.

Davidson pulled it off, 68-63. They're now 8-9 in-con, Bona is 10-7.
And in the ACC's "Battle of the Decayed", GaTech is up on Pitt 20-19.

Vandy 25 Kentucky 9 8 min left in 1st half. UK just hit a 3 to cut it to 16.
UK started their seniors. Got down 7-0. Seniors yanked. Substitution pattern all screwed up and they are completely out of sync.
Go Dores!

Aldridge only took 5 shots . He took about 5 shots a minute against us. How did the Bonnie's contain him? We may see them in our first round game.
