Down 47-54 and down -10 possessions. Score 1 point a possession and that is difference in the game.

I don't know what X did over the off-season, but he let his game deteriorate to a spot on the bench.

I have no feel for who should even be in the game for UD or if there is any substitution pattern at all.
Also Darrell trying to be Russel Westbrook and going 1 on 1 isn't working either.

Embarrassed by the lack of effort on the glass. 21-33 rebounds. Where is Kostas?
Too many minutes for Crutcher and not enough for Kostas.

We've shot 29 3's and only 18 2's thus far. This offense is brutal. Flashbacks to some of those Gregory teams.

They just showed ODU's next 5 games and 3 of them are against A10 teams (LaSalle, GW, St. Joe's). Do they always play a lot of A10 opponents? Or, perhaps, is the league auditioning them should an opening come up?

At this point in this season, X reminds me of Kevin Costner's character at the end of the golf movie "Tin Cup", where he keeps trying to hit the ball over the lake, and drowning ball after ball. To paraphrase, "Somebody tell him he doesn't have to shoot it from there!"

Then they showed their next 5 again and it was totally different. VCU and Richmond were on the list which makes sense since those would regional rivals of sorts. So it makes me wonder what they actually showed the first time (since I can't use my ESPN3 instant replay). Maybe they showed the Lady Monarchs the first time? It certainly wasn't Dayton's next 5 since A10 play is over a month away.

D Davis had a great performance with 27 points and J Davis was a pleasant surprise with 11 off the bench. Otherwise, not a good showing and it seemed like some on the team didn't care about a 5th place game. Rebounding was poor and I wonder how strong ODU will be this year. They were the experienced team and our youth showed.

Young team. Accept that.
Lack of effort on rebounds and 50/50 balls = embarrassing.
33/54 shots from 3 or 61% = frustrating
Odd substitution patterns = concerning
Why don’t press earlier? Why isn’t Kostas playing? If we- are going to chuck 3s all day and not rebound, play Kostas.

Wow! What a Difference
between the winingest senior class in Dayton Men's basketball history and this years edition of the Elevator Flyers. They go up and they go down. This year's team looks so much better in zone than man-to-man which tells us a whole lot about their experience and skill level. UD needs to define who they are. Are they a perimeter team or an inside team? I would argue for inside but for the fact that their guards (Darrell Davis excluded) cannot penetrate and pass well enough to get the ball to Josh and Kostas. XW has learned through 4 games that he should be an interior player FIRST after which the 3 shot will be available for him. He should deny himself treys and begin his offense from the blocks not the perimeter. So far our point guard play at both ends of the court stinks. I would consider playing some of the walk-on players at PG so that Crosby and Crutchins can sit and watch.

During the post game interview, Coach Grant recognized D Davis and his effort. Hope that the tourney does as well.
Maybe the benefit of Charleston is that Grant could see his team and determine what he needs to do. I sometimes wonder about a coach going from the pros back to college because it can be different. In the pros you are dealing with stars who have proven themselves (usually) but in college that is not necessarily the case. I like Grant and hope that he got what he wanted out of Charleston.

Darrell Davis' 3 straight 20 pt games is the first in 4 years. Jordan Sibert scored 20, 23 and 20 against Georgia Tech, Gonzaga and Baylor.
Brian Roberts was before that in Feb of 2008, with 4 20-pt games in a row.

Didn't we all? But when half your roster is new (and your name isn't Kentucky or Duke), sometimes you have to settle for "what did we learn?" Among the things we learned are:
-DD is a man on a mission.
-Our inexperience is showing, both on offense (shot selection) and defense (aggressiveness).
-Cunningham needs to stay on the court.
-We'll see a lot of highs (Kostas on Thursday; J Davis on Friday & Sunday) and lows from our new guys (specifically), as well as our returning guys.
-Archie knew this was going to be a rebuilding year, so he left when his stock was high.
