HOW DARE YOU? He's an alumni, he's allowed to suck as a coach.

Nope. I decided this the day he was hired. I watched his teams at Alabama and knew what the outcome would be that day

So basically past performance predicts future results huh? AM didn’t exactly set the world on fire his first 2 years. I know a few chiropractors - you may need them from jumping on and off the bandwagon...

There are VERY valid criticisms...but...
There also aren't many that are going to do more with what he has.
Remember this thread and we pull it up in 2 years...I think that is a fair time to make the assessment that we would potentially be looking forward to 2020...
I don't wear the red and blue blinders...I try to be realistic...and right now there are issues with offensive execution and probably design...but I want to see it with a better group of players.
Defensively...they come out and bust ass in the first half today mixing man and zone...looked good and worked...your guess is as good as mine in the 2nd but the D was the players...not the coach...

Yeah, usually it does. This isn't the stock market. Otherwise, hell, why don't we hire Brian Gregory back, or even Jim O'Brien?

No need for a chiropractor. I'm off the bandwagon. All my season tickets for this year are for sale on the ticket exchange. Just want to break even. No reason to drive 4 hours round trip to watch this crap.
I love UD and the Flyers but I know when what I'm watching is crap. And this is crap.
Grant isn't going to out coach anybody. He is going to have out recruit teams to win.
I hope he does but I can't sit back and watch such poorly coached basketball.

While it is true AM didnt shine his first two years, I think we would all say he got better each year as coach after year 2, and also consider UD was his first head coaching job. Grant was a head coach like what, 8 yrs before he took over here? And judging from watching his teams while at Alabama, he went downhill there in his 5 years, hence his firing.
I realize it is not really fair of me to expect this team to excel, considering our poor/inexperienced play at pg, and with so many new faces. However, I just don't see a well coached team on offense so far, and the memories of how bad his teams looked on offense at Alabama is scaring the hell out of me.

Well, by listening to all the experts here, I'm guessing that all 8 years Grant coached, his players were inexperienced and cupboard was bare. Or, he was inexperienced himself, or there was that normal change of coaching learning curve, or his teams had lots of injuries or...

I totally disagree. This is the exact type of home and home series that we should be scheduling more of every year.
We should sign a lifetime contract with SMC, whereby we would play them every year.
The tv announcers said that both head coaches liked this series, hopefully we renew the series next year.

That ship is sailing away fast. I think with the way I project this program going, we might be begging Eastern Kentucky for home and home series again. Maybe Miami of Ohio will oblige us also.

Offense is ugly but most nights we score enough to win. We lost the second half b/c we couldnt stop anybody. SMC lit us up in the last 20 like a Christmas tree. Yeah we had a scoring drought to start 2nd half, but it was still a 4pt game w/under 10min left. Right where we wanted to be. We just couldnt stop them late -- every trip they got points.
If you look at Alabama's kenpom defensive ratings (if these matter to you -- grain of salt), they were better under Grant than UD's were under Archie.

Our offense will improve as we get better players. Defense is as much a mindset from the coach as it is anything. Grant seemed to like long, lean kids with huge reaches to disrupt passing lanes. We dont have anything close to that right now.
Everything is for evaluating, but a dozen games in with someone else's players -- we really are grasping at straws. What we're seeing right now has no bearing on where things may be in 5 seasons. It might be what we want or it might not be, but what's on the court now is probably not going to have much of a trajectory influence on that.

Thank you sir. BTW, several critical doomsayers on this board are completely ignoring the effect that a coaching change usually has on a team in year 1. I found it encouraging that XW seems to be playing healthy again and if thats the case an important cog in the wheel could change things. Am I expecting a bid this year? Crazier things could happen.
Incidentally, IU just got throttled AT HOME by Fort Wayne the other night (they are now 6-6). I watched a good 15-20 minutes and saw a lot of defensive breakdowns and a lot of passing on the perimeter without any purpose resulting in a bad 3 with time running out. I guess AM has lost his touch....

I've stated this several times, but it's worth repeating, it's a marathon not a sprint. Think back to January, 2014 when many on here were calling AM the worst coach ever after we lost 4 straight in conference. I won't pull up the threads to embarrass those offenders, but geez, slow the heck down. I imagine most of the complainers have never coached at anything more than a CYO level, but seem to know it all.

We look the same as Alabama looked when AG was there. Therefore, there is little reason to believe that we will improve significantly and/or become as good as or better than we were under AM. That is the jist of the AG criticism.

Yes, and we saw the same initial problems with AM here, but he eventually fixed those problems, and we went on to become terrifically successful.
AG never fixed his problems at Alabama and was eventually fired, and his approach here has not changed from what his approach at Alabama was.

You naysayers would have some logic to stand on if we had some veteran players this year. Instead we have one, DD, plus Cunningham in his first real year and Williams hurt.
However if you really want to get real, look West to Bloomington. Archie is 6-6 with losses to IN St and IPFW. Think about that. It would be like us losing to Akron and Ohio U. This is the coach everyone who is a UD fan says is a great coach, and all opposing coaches and media ditto. Archie has more talent back this year than we do, but he is getting the same result as Grant. Out of Archie's top seven guys, getting most of the playing minutes, only one is a freshman. This is not about rapping Archie, because he is excellent, but get real!
