Iowa (AdvoCare Invitational) Game Thread
I'm not waiting around... Hope everyone has a nice and safe Thanksgiving! Absolutely massive game that night in Orlando... We need to win!
9 PM on Thursday Night on ESPN2
G 10 Mike Gesell 6’2” 190 SR South Sioux City, NE
G 5 Anthony Clemmons 6’2” 200 SR Lansing, MI
G 14 Peter Jok 6’6” 205 JR West Des Moines, IA
F 20 Jarrod Uthoff 6’9” 221 SR Cedar Rapids, IA
C 34 Adam Woodbury 7’1” 250 SR Sioux City, IA
Uthoff averages 16 points 6 reb a night... Jok averages 14... Gesell has averaged more than 8 assists per game in the 1st 3.
I believe! Archie will have them ready... Go UD!

Critical that Pollard brings his "A" game, and leaves his fouls at home.

My thoughts exactly! One key difference is Gonzaga knew what they were about to face (Pangos and Pierre having played together in Canada). I expect Iowa to be overconfident--they thrashed us on their floor 3 years ago, they compare us to Davidson who they destroyed last March, and they have not been challenged so far this year. Their message board posters believe they will win by 10+ points (they also believe their dismantling of Marquette was a quality win, so they're a delusional lot). Despite McCaffrey's warnings, I don't see them showing up ready to play.

I politely disagree. We will not be playing Iowa's Message Board, and they will not be playing ours. They know they must play hard against a very good Dayton team. That being said, we will win!!

So based on twitter it sounds like the Flyers are going to be accused of having an unfair home court advantage at UD Arena South in Orlando.

Off to a decent start. Uthoff apparently got a burr in his saddle over something. Heading to the TO, he was jawing at someone on our squad.

Too many threes at this point. If Uthoff doesn't cool off we will have our hands full.

Couple of missed layups , but otherwise our Flyers look solid.
We cooled off Uthoff who looked like Pete Maravich for a while.

Kendall showing great energy and hitting some FT's. Doing better job of letting the game come to him. Some nice passing by him instead of forcing everything. Steve picked up a silly 2nd foul on a reach-in but his presence is being felt. Iowa isn't interested in rebounding once Steve starts to go up. Kyle hit a couple 3's which should keep his defender honest. And I think we may be seeing the coming out party for Williams.

Love it. Up 12 and the announcers are looking for reasons why Iowa isn't playing as well as it has before. Could give Dayton some credit.

We are just coming down and chucking it up there. Down to one t.o. too. Plus every possession seems like a foul is called. So tired of not letting them play a little.

Let's beat Monmouth and take down a Big East team to win it all.

And then the announcer saying Pollard shoved the guy out of bounds, so Iowa should have had 2 FTs instead of it being Dayton ball. I noticed he missed the shove in the back that Giesel (sp?) gave Scoochie on his drive from the right elbow a couple plays earlier. They showed that one on replay from @ 3 different angles, and you could see the shove from every angle.
But you know what? At this point - I DON'T CARE!!! WE WON!!!

Was I the only person that thought McCaffrey looked like he was doing some wood working on the lathe in his garage? No, only me?

The place sounded like UD Arena on my TV. Great showing by those Flyer fans in Orlando. Largest crowd in the events history tonight!

That is a rough group of Hawk fans. They surely drop a lot of F-bombs!

Exactly!!! I couldn't believe a foul wasn't called on the shove in Scooch's back. Never thought he'd go on to make a shot after that. Thought he was too far past the bucket and near the baseline. I also have no idea how he made the crucial late basket to put them up 3. HIGH off the glass! And with the left hand to boot!

Uthoff was talking trash, muttering the eff word after he hit like 4 threes. This jack off then through up like 4 airballs and bad misses, maybe more.
guy has no legs under him, and ended up playing awful. GESEll i give some props, another guy hitting threes, and then the center hit some key FT;s.
Solid , respectable team Iowa is (cept for that Schmo).

The OTHER huge takeaway from this game, is that Pollards FT form looks like it's here to stay. Lucky Us. ****, **** huge - will serve us well the entire year.

LMAO I was thinking the same thing- almost like he thought he didn't need to dress up for this game. (((You're on national TV you dolt))). Glad we pulled this game out. Would have hated to see a stat like "UD led for 39 minutes only to lose to Iowa when it counted". Those announcers were pro Iowa big time so it was nice that the little guys from UD could win. And as far as the foul by Pollard pushing their center out of bounds...I saw Iowa get away with that all night so I kind of laughed that announcers were almost crying about it. The truth is...refs could call fouls almost every second of the game if they wanted to.
