Saint Louis Game Thread
Solid two game NY Road Trip... Glad to be back home! Let's care of business against an improved SLU squad.
Game is at 7 PM on Wednesday Night.
Potential Starting Lineup:
G 10 Aaron Hines 6’0” 175 JR St. Louis, MO
G 11 Jermaine Bishop 6’1” 160 FR Queens, NY
G 32 Mike Crawford 6’4” 200 JR Tipton, IN
G 3 Ash Yacoubou 6’4” 215 RS SR Bronx, NY
F 35 Reggie Agbeko 6’7” 240 JR Buffalo, NY
This lineup could definitely change, I think they have started 12 different players so far.
Yacoubou is definitely their best player leads them in pts & reb (12.4 & 5.8)
Go UD!

This is the kind of effort that scares me from this team against all of these bad teams. They seem to simply be unable to motivate themselves against these teams.

Kyle Davis is going to have to at least consider shooting a 3. His defender is basically standing in the lane.

Now up to 36%, but that 3-8 on free throws is unbelievable, but then so is 21pts in 17 minutes.

In the DDN today, Jim Crews said the Flyers could be a final four team. I wonder if he still thinks that.

I think I've seen this show before. The Flyers play bad the first half but our opponents can't shoot. Next half, these same opponents shoot 70 percent from 3 point land to make us sweat it out until the buzzer.

Surprised Archie has not tried Mikesell. He tends to work well on offense, and if he loses his man on defense St L cannot shoot.

Our shooting is not that bad if you exclude Cooke. He is 0-6 and 0-3 on threes. Others are 10-21

Really disappointing. I hoped the Flyers would really turn it on against the A-10 also-rans. But they just can't seem to play well or shoot well against these teams.

Not surprising in my opinion. I wasn't going to make a four hour round trip to watch us play SLU. Just hard to get motivated to watch us play what is a bad team. I guess I'm kind of like the players in that regard.
I did sell my tickets on the ticket exchange though.

I cleared $18 total for two 400 level ticket which means I made about $3 and saved the gas money. With season tickets it really only costs about 7.50 a ticket for the upper arena 400s

Sam Miller enters the game.
Gets out-hustled/muscled for rebound. Kyle Davis scraps to keep it alive and tries to pass it to Miller who can't bother to go to the ball and hold on to it. SMH

Drives me nuts as he takes for granted that he can hold on to the ball handling it like fragile glass.

I agree with both of you guys. I think UD's defense has made it difficult on St. Louis, but when the Billikens get open shots they can't hit anything. It's an offensive disaster overall for SLU.

There are several teams in the A-10 who don't bother defending at all and SLU managed to beat them at home by hitting their shots

The cherry on top of this sundae would be if a UD player hit Jim Crews in the face with a basketball. Accidentally, of course.

Baby D's shooting tonight looks as bad as I've ever seen. No flow to it at all, FTs looked like he was throwing them up blindfolded. He's a puzzle.

D Davis has sunk and sunk and sunk. 0-4 from the field, 0-3 on threes and 0-2 on free throws.

I know we lost at LaSalle. I know. But where are we ranked if we won that game, even by just one? Curious.

I don't have Time Warner, but I'm watching their feed as carried by FOX Sports Midwest. My main takeaway is Time Warner's producer loves close-ups while the game is in action.

While the win over Iowa is the gift which keeps giving, that result is like, um, something you contract which requires penicillin to clear.

I still don't understand why all the walkons don't get in for the final minute in a game like this.

Pretty simple, when you have quality freshman that aren't seeing a lot of game action, it's more important that they get the minutes and seconds. Your first walk-on is Gruden, he's last man off the bench this season.
Flyers are in the middle of a great season, you don't waste any minutes for sentimental reasons.

Sam needs to commit to the weight room and play with some fire. He has the skills and athleticism. It's up to him.
Told a friend the Jolly reminds me of the kind of guy the Flyers used to recruit.

So in a 36 point home win why not give Bonsu, Dupuy, Schweiterman and Westerfield one minute for the record books, as well as Gruden?
Maybe if we beat LaSalle by 46?
I'd love to see a highlight reel of that last minute.
I'd like to buy each one a few beers after the season is over and play that minute in a continuous loop in some sports bar all night.

Because like Smitty10 so eloquently put above we have some scholarship freshmen who are barely getting any minutes at all and they need to play.
Those kids understand they're not going to get into the game and understand that is part of the deal of being a walk-on. Heck I knew a walkon that Purnell red-shirted/didn't allow to dress for games. He practiced everyday for a year and then Purnell cut him the next year. I'm thinking these guys are getting a much better deal than he did.

1. GW= I have no idea other than a lack of motivation by GW. Kind of like UD at Lasalle.
2. Umass & Davidson= These two teams play absolutely no defense and probably allowed SLU to hit some shots and get hot early.
