New Mexico (Wooden Legacy) Game Thread
Let's finish this tourney on a high note and come home 4-2. I really think all 3 of the sophomore "Bigs" have all grew up and played a solid tourney, especially X.
Game is at 2 PM and will be shown on ESPNU
Starting Lineup:
G 3 Jordan Hunter 5’11” 180 SO Beaumont, Texas
G 4 Elijah Brown 6’4” 200 RS JR Orange County, California
F 20 Sam Logwood 6’7” 210 JR Indianapolis, Indiana
F 32 Tim Williams 6’8” 240 RS SR Flossmoor, Illinois
C 11 Obij Aget 7’1” 220 SR Juba, South Sudan
Tim Williams is easily their best player... 21.8 PPG 8.5 RPG... Brown also averages over 15 a night.
I Believe... Go UD!

Williams is the real deal. Does not shoot 3's, but can really get to the rim and finish. Hits the glass, handles the ball well. Gets into the bonus and shoots tons of ft's.

Elijah Brown is son of former Cavs and Lakers coach. Played some HS ball for St Eds in Cleveland. Started at Butler but transferred out. Mountain West preseason player of the year.

Line is UD -4.5. This game is as important as the Nebraska game IMO, and perhaps even more so. This is a team (like Alabama) that could end up being a very good win for us, or in the alternative, could be a bad loss depending on how their season goes.
We've pretty much maxed out our loss total for the non-con. I hate to put the "must-win" label on any game, but it is hard to argue that any non conference game from here on out isn't must win.

I disagree. There isn't a single "must win" game. Do you remember 3 years ago when we lost 5 straight conf games and everyone was screaming how the sky was falling? It's a marathon, not a sprint. I believe our last 10 games will determine our post season fate.

Technically, we can lose every non-conference game left on the schedule and still get in the touranament. The most important thing for us is for the team to keep getting better. If the sophomores keep progressing and play to their potential, and if we get KP back in good playing shape soon, we will be alright.

NM is 4-6 form 3, UD is 2-10, and yet still 7 point lead.
Is that right showing zero turnovers for the Flyers?

These injuries are unreal...haven't they had problems with condensation on this floor in years past? I'm pretty sure they had issues last year.

Down goes Davis. The floor is dangerous. Take the team off the floor, get on the plane and come home. Safety first and if roof is leaking and ice underneath with condensation, not worth the risk. Either provide a first class SAFE facility or do not have a tourney.

2-12 on threes held us back. Six steals and only 2 turnovers were big pluses.

I don't know if it is the case any more but back in the day Red Holtzman insisted that they remove the ice in MSG before putting down the Bball floor because of concern with injuries.

Interesting that Darrell hasn't played since early in the 2nd half. Hopefully its because Archie doesn't want to take Cooke out because his groin might tighten up, and not because he's hurt from his slip.

Poor decision by Crosby to try a lob type pass to Sam in traffic. Never had a chance. Would have been better off shooting it.

Sam Miller shooting a runner off the weave is not what I think Archie wanted there.

And then an Xman missed 3 then UNM gets a layup to take the lead. SMH.
Scoochie and Cooke need to take those last two shots.

Gonna see a bunch of that this season...bonehead offensive play by Miller or Williams only to be followed up with a bonehead defensive play on the next possession.

Those things even out sometimes. I thought we got jobbed against Nebraska in the last minutes. First there was the non-call on the offensive put-back which from where I sat looked clearly like offensive goal tending.
Then there was the inbounds pass that took 7 seconds and then the ref allowed the Huskers to call time out. Should have been a turnover by Nebraska.
Then also there was the last drive to the bucket by Scoochie. I understand that the refs swallow their whistles late in the game. But if that was not a foul, it was at least a felony.
