Makes sense, John Brannen used to be on CAG staff, took over the last handful of games (NIT) when when Grant was let go at Bama

Play at Middletown High School.
I'm surprised the NCAA hasn't let up and allowed these games to be open to the public with ticket sales, concessions, etc.... I know they allow it if they are using it as a fund raiser (seems like a good year for such a thing UD), I guess the coaches and ADs in general don't want that to happen. It would be way more interesting to see them operate in a scrimmage like this than vs a D3 school.

Because they’re not handled like “games” but rather scrimmages where there is stopping and starting by coaches and teaching in between.

Dayton's women's volleyball team played Pitt for their preseason warm-up, and it wasn't a secret. Pitt is not division II or III - in fact, they are ranked in the top 10 nationally. BTW, the Flyers won in five sets.

Which is exactly why it would be more interesting. People, approx 80-100K of them attended OSU's spring game this past year, which is essentially the same thing. People show up to red and blue games or midnight madness.

I wouldn't take a lot out of it once it starts to leak
Jalen and Jordy probably aren't gonna play
UC's best player, Jaaron Cumberland, is injured I believe and probably won't play.
But we'll see

Do we know if we have ever won one of these games?
I'm wondering if we will even hear that much. There was little info leaked on the UD/NKU matchup, so it may be the same with Grant/Brannen again in this case.

I got this from a UC message board:
"Heard uc and Dayton played four 10 minute quarters and reset the score each quarter. Seemed like Uc won though...this is just what I heard"

A poster on another UC message board claims UD won:
https://bearcatnews.com/forum/basket...tion-scrimmage
I don’t understand why they don’t open up these not-so-secret scrimmages.

Any students here? Hit the bars tonight and if you see any players buy them a few drinks, then ask them what they did today.

I got a kick out of one of the comments on this Cincinnati board. It said, “I don’t get the secrecy around these kind of things. .... We are not talking nuclear launch codes here.”

It is interesting that winning or losing is the last goal of these scrimmages, but it is first and foremost on many people's minds. Hopefully there will be some comments about how the team played and how some of the guys played. I would love to know how we shot the three ball and how we rebounded against a very physical team.

According to what’s being posted on UC message board Dayton won at the buzzer and everyone played . Take it for what it’s worth

I know... oh well,
but it would of been nice to know if, sometime during the scrimmage, did Grant play Obi, Jordy and Chase at the same time?
how did our outside shooters look like?
is Iba looking like we got someone who could be special?
which combinations looked the best?
thanks for all the responses from eveyone...)

They don't play these 'games' to 'win'. They play to see who's ready to start the season.
'secret-scrimmages', 'walk-ons' and 'redshirts' are wayyyy over-analyzed and discussed around here.

You are not going to get that info from a secret scrimmage. You might see a box score and hear a report that 1 or 2 players played well and that is it. There is a reason these are closed door.

And to try some rotations that might not otherwise see the light of day.

Reading that UC message board, they clearly don't know anything about our team. Love reading ill-informed analysis.

We are not even really on their radar, they think of us as an inconsequential, mid-major A10 team. We need longer-term, sustained success to change the perception. Our success is too uneven. I almost never hear UC fans talk about UD. All the hate is directed at Xavier.

Agreed, they play every situation to win, but not the game. Often that means putting players in uncomfortable situations that are non-win-maximizing, but potentially player-potential-maximizing.
Like having a walk-on on the court in the closing seconds because Grant wants to see the other 4 players support someone who is not strong enough to carry his own water. You want the 5 on the floor to play to win that 20 seconds, but if you were trying to win the "game" you would never do something like that.
