VCU Game Thread

Another nice effort by the guys today... A solid 6 game win streak. Now we head to the Siegel Center for an extremely tough road matchup at the Rams. VCU plays elite defense so it's going to be a "rock fight." Can we hang in there and steal a win in Richmond?

Game is at 8 PM on Wednesday Night and will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.

Starting Lineup:
G 2 Marcus Evans 6’2” 190 RS JR Chesapeake, VA
G 0 De’Riante Jenkins 6’5” 195 JR Eutawville, SC
F 23 Issac Vann 6’6” 210 RS JR Bridgeport, CT
F 5 Sean Mobley 6’8” 225 SO Cocoa Beach, FL
F 14 Marcos Santos-Silva 6’7” 250 SO Taunton, MA

They are led by Rice transfer Marcus Evans who is about 13 a night. They also have a couple other scorers in Jenkins & Vann, who both average about a 11 a night. Mobley is a shooter and Santos-Silva is very much improved in his 2nd year (8.6 PPG 7.1 RPG)... A freshman from Toledo, Vince Williams, brings a bunch of energy off the bench.

Offensively they are average (maybe), 69.1 PPG (41.8% 28.9% 68.6%)... But a fantastic Defensive Team.

Should be a heck of a game... Can we go on the road and pull a stunner at the Stu?

This will be a game where Josh and Obi need to step up. Saw a lot of the VCU vs Davidson game Saturday, they will overplay the perimeter and are as athletic as always. There's tape out there on Obi now and the A10 coaches are taking away his strengths. It's AG's turn to make adjustments...he was playing way too much above the FT line vs UMass. Then again, there's not much room in the paint w/ Holloway

I know Trey had the ball under the hoop on that last shot, but he had to jump over 3 guys who were laying on the floor to take that shot. Should have pulled it back out and reset the O.

Agreed. Trey needs to have a little more composure. I value the effort and emotional but it has to be controlled. That was a bad minute of basketball.

Pete Gillen - who admits to not knowing the A10 well - says that VCU goes 10-11 deep. Anyone know if that’s true? While it’s smart to press a team like Dayton who only goes 7 deep there has to be some serious talent drop off when the line change is made, right?

After 17 minutes of bad shooting and no rebounding, we have righted both stats.

Mikesell playing very well on the defensive end.

Grant needs to light a fire under Cunningham. He is way too lethargic out there.

We played awful without Crutcher. We need him on the court the rest of the way.

We allowed their pressure defense to get to us. We need to attack attack attack (like the team that won the NIT).

Trey can really help us. He is our most physical rim runner, but he needs to play smart.

This game is there for the taking, and I like our chances.

Our limited bench and the pace concerns me. I hope VCU has a flat period like they have had in a few games. Love Landers attitude but he needs to control and direct it. VCU defense is S good as I have seen them play this year. Let’s take this.

Amen. Remember the first game last year. We made quick passes and ran the ball down their throats. Dribbling slows it down and lets the defense get back and adjust for their next trap and half court defense.
