Detroit thoughts
They were awful. They have won 3 games somehow coming in. 2 over MAC opponents. They have approximately 27 more games vs the MAC before Horizon League play starts.
We shot 37-54, 68%. We had 30 assists.
We also turned it over 15 times. That was a few turnovers away from being the VCU game from last year.
When this team is on offensively, they are sick.
Toppin had 22 and 11. I have high hopes for conference season this year, but I really think next year this is a top-25 team.

Team was as unselfish a team as I've ever seen and that actually caused at least 5-6 UD turnovers with forced entry passes/dump-downs by guys who actually already had good wide open shots had they taken them..

I didn't watch the game, but I would not be surprised if they were just screwing around and having some fun. And if AG has any sense he screams at them a bit to try to avoid building bad habits, but also knows to let the guys blow off some steam.

You believe what you want. This team can't afford to screw around with anybody. The last 3 games, albeit close, told this team exactly who and what they are...They got patted on the head the same way Benny Hill did to old man Uncle Jackie on the Benny Hill show. There's a bunch of teams out there like UD and UD is trying NOT to remain in that quicksand and separate.
Serious issues with this team in regards to both depth and perimeter shooting going into last night and, for now, one of those got solved. They'll get zoned continuously until they can hit 3's by a few players and one way to get open looks will be to attack the paint and pass out of the paint to all quadrants and/or dump-down low...

Hopefully we can still shoot and dunk against the big boys like Virginia, et al. We will get another report card after Auburn. We have been cleaning up with highlights against Horizon level teams.

Could not see game but have read reports. As so often happens, teams play up to or down to their opponent's level. Not last night. Favored by 14 points and won big. Nice. Not having a stressful tension filled game coming down to the last two minutes and foul shots once in a while is good for team and fans. Maybe it would be better to happen more than once in a while!!!
Again I admit not having seen the game but it appears we were always up 20+ points after half time. That being said, when game is so far out of reach, can't kids like Westerfield, Greer and Wilson get more than four minutes playing time collectively? Westerfield got 3 points in his two minutes?

I walked away thinking about how wide the gap is between 'high major' and 'low major'. And trying to exactly place UD's current position and desired position.
I think this years team will out match a lot of low major type teams. The task will be not losing focus against them. But the other mid to high majors are the key ones. Saturday is another huge test. These are the games for individual and team growth.
And I sure hope this years A10 is an anomaly. It has to be more Big East than Horizon. (pick your 'favorite' conferences). But with the A10 trends and the P5 tendencies, we are living on the razor thin edge... and need to move to the correct side however possible.

Agree. UDM is a brutally bad team. Not much to learn from this. Good news is that we didn't play down and noone got hurt. It did get a little sloppy which led to some turnovers.
Time to move on.

Kind of nice to have a laugher for a change. Not always, but certainly once in a while.
Figgie - when was our last 39 point victory?

In a way, Detroit was fascinating to watch. Their offense consisted of each person who had the ball dribbled until they couldn't get their shot and passed to the next person who dribble until he shot. No ball movement or people movement. It was " everyman for himself." This is what pick up games are about and why teams with exceptionally high scoring guards are not usually good teams. Dayton, for whatever its shortcomings, plays with a team concept and that's fun to watch.

January 2013 versus Fordham. 96-51. Unless you meant EXACTLY 39 points, which was February 1992 against Long Island, 80-41.

Last night's game, although he lacked a front line, is an indicator why Davis never made it as the IU coach. Detroit had little offensive flow and zero defense.
However, we have seen these kind of teams come into UD Arena and we barely beat them. So kudos to our guys who played an almost perfect game.

Their offense was poor and the zone they ran was bad. A properly executed zone still doesn't get beat like a red headed step kid over the top in the zone. The dead spot on the baseline may get worked from time to time, but they got hammered on the back side. They also pinched the top, which I don't think helped them out at all. It only forced the ball to the sides which is where we were killing them at.

Amazing scheduling by Detroit. Looks like they stopped in Toledo on the way back from Dayton for another buy game tonight. Shockingly, it appears they were not too up for the game. Lost 101-57.

This team disrespected the fans by not scoring 100 and not fouling them so they could miss two free throws which would of gotten us free chicken. Arby’s sliders don’t cut it.

Titans made North Florida look like Duke. They have lost their last to by over 75 points. Far cry from the Titans back in the day.

Anyone have information as to why AG got T'd up? It took the entire coaching staff and a few players (Obi, Landers) to get him to calm down!

He thought Obi was fouled when he got stuffed down by the basket.

The Titans must have needed to save gas money. The left Dayton and stopped in Toledo on their way back home. Did not go well for them again 57-101.

Actually they went back to Detroit and bused to Toledo. Talk about wearing your players out.
